Release Blitz & Review: Mogul by Katy Evans

Mogul Amazon-2 (1)The Cover: I love this cover! Nothing better than a handsome man staring you down with a fierce, determined expression on his face and he is reminds me of Ian’s intense aura too! The cover of Mogul is perfection!

Basics: Mogul was released on May 31st 2018 and is 252 pages long. Genre wise Mogul belongs to standalone and contemporary romance.

Description: He’s my most delicious secret.
The hot Suit I had a one-night stand with one evening.
I didn’t know anything about him, not even his name.
Only that we shared a taxi, and he was staying at the hotel where I worked.
We met in room 1103. Where he commanded not only my body but my soul.
The next day he was gone and I only had a memory of him.
I could still taste his kisses, feel his demanding touch.
I searched for him for months. Daydreaming about him. Wondering if I’d ever find him.
Until the day I find myself staring face to face with his jeweled black eyes again.
He says lets keep it casual, and my heart knows that falling for this workaholic in a three-thousand-dollar suit is off the table.
Because he has a secret. One that’s a deal breaker for me.
My Suit has a name. Ian Ford. And this is our story.
*Mogul contains characters from Tycoon, but is written to be read as a standalone.*
Mogul-Teaser3-AN.jpg

Overall thoughts: What a complete and utter whirlwind Ian and Sara’s story was! From start to finish I was blown away by their love story. Mogul had a stark pace that was completely different from Katy Evans usual style of slow burning romance couples in previous books. That being said, I really enjoyed it! There wasn’t any filler or getting to know each other, Ian and Sara met and literally were in each other’s arms hours later. As I stated before, different from Evans usual style of writing but it was such a fresh change!

Sara and Ian were meant to be together, oh my goodness these two make me melt and smile! I completely adore them! Their love story might not be conventional but it is definitely epic. One of my favorite aspects of Katy Evans’ books is how she creates these characters with backgrounds and stories that you can relate to and you can see yourself in their shoes. Her characters may be fictional, but the way she writes them I feel as if I know them personally.

Ian is very, very hot; the man knows what he wants and isn’t afraid to say so either. He’s facing his own personal issues and seems to only want a casual thing with Sara but Ian shows this vulnerable side too. Sara isn’t the only one who is afraid of getting hurt and it was nice to see that side of a male character because I don’t think it’s written or shown enough. Men may not like to show all different sides of emotions but they have to them and do deal with them.

Mogul will probably be my favorite standalone of the year. It’s definitely not a slow burning book and it’s very fast paced but I loved it from start to finish. Sara and Ian have an epic kind of love that I won’t forget about for a very long time.

Roman has never been willing to take those odds, until now.

His need for control is ingrained.
His desire for her is unparalleled.
The challenge of winning her may be the biggest risk of all.

Excerpt: “Don’t think you can play me that easily, Ms. Savage. I’m the master, and you’re still learning the game.” He stands and slips his tie off folding it neatly. Then he leaves me there hot and bothered and disappointed beyond belief. How dare he!

What does he mean he’s the master? And what game is he referring to? I was just flirting hoping for a repeat of this morning out here on his patio, a little exhibitionism. I wasn’t playing at anything.

I wasn’t then, but I am now. He likes to control. I’ve witnessed it on multiple occasions. It’s time to take that away from him and see how he likes it.

I stand and strip off my tank top, step out of my skirt, and kick off my flip-flops. I round the table and push through the gate separating his patio from the sandy, sparsely inhabited beach. I’m still sporting a thong but absolutely nothing else. I don’t know if it’s a topless beach, and I don’t care.

I stretch my arms over my head scooping my hair into a fresh messy bun and wrap the rubber band from my wrist around it just as my feet touch the edge of the water.

“Aria!” Roman’s voice booms from behind me. I turn with a wicked smile and see him standing still in his suit pants and dress shirt holding up my top and skirt with fury in his eyes.

Bingo, now let’s see who’s the master and what game we’re playing. He catches my expression and lowers his gaze to my naked breasts. Right before my eyes, I watch him turn into a lunatic. Face red, veins bulging and pulsing from everywhere, he throws open the gate on the patio and storms through the sand in his thousand-dollar shoes and ten-thousand-dollar suit.

But I’m safe in the water, or at least I’m pretty sure I am. I wade out deeper feeling more secure but only for a moment. My eyes go wide when he storms into the ocean dressed from head to toe with the look of an enraged maniac on his face.

Nerves scramble my brain, and I laugh as I swim further away from him. My depth is of no concern to this man full of possessive insanity, in fact, it may be propelling him.

“Aria, come here this instant! This isn’t a nude beach. It’s not even a topless beach for Christ’s sake!” he yells before diving underwater in my direction. Oh my God, for the first time since I let spontaneity take over, I worry about the repercussions of my actions.

What will he do when he catches me? He will catch me of that I am sure. I can see crazy in his eyes. He’s angry, and I am wild. He is possessive, and I need to be free. He is controlling, and I am rebellious.

I dart to the right, but it’s too late. His hand closes around my ankle, and I take in a huge breath right before he pulls me under. I can’t see him, my eyes are closed because of the salty water, but his hands are around my waist hauling me to the surface.

“Are you out of your fucking mind, woman? Somebody could have seen you.”

I try to blink the water from my eyes since he has my arms pinned to my sides. “So?”

“So? You just finished telling me that you’re mine while we are here, and in case you haven’t noticed, we are still here!” he shouts, and I recoil. I’ve never been shouted at by a man, especially right in my face.

I roll my lips inward and hold my breath unsure of what to say or do next. It turns out I don’t have to say or do anything. He turns toward the shore and starts walking us in that direction pushing through the water with such force it leaves a wake behind us. I know, I looked!

He turns me in his arms so that my front is plastered to his hiding my breasts from onlookers’ eyes of which there are only two—an elderly man and his wife sunning in lounge chairs a couple of doors down. I wave at them, and the woman waves back smirking in solidarity.

Roman is overreacting. I’m naked, so what? Women all over the world sunbathe topless and nude. He’s acting like I committed a felony.

“Stop fraternizing with the neighbors,” he growls. How did he know I waved?

“You can’t tell me what to do.”

“Oh yeah? You’re not swimming naked anymore, are you?”

“Because you hauled me out of the water like a sack of potatoes!”

“A sack of potatoes has more sense than you right now.”

“I don’t think I like your tone.”

“I don’t like your defiance,” he says storming through the patio doors with his clothes dripping water all over the carpets. He doesn’t stop to put me down. Instead, he makes a bee-line for the bedroom. Goodie!

He tosses me on the bed, and I laugh. I can’t help it, he is being so absurd. “You’re a caveman, Roman Forrest. You know that, right?”

He closes the door to the bedroom.

“You act like I’m your wife.”

He shoves his hand through his silky black hair and unbuttons his wet shirt.

I pull a sheet over myself suddenly feeling exposed and nervous.

“You don’t own me, you know,” I say, but he says nothing and walks in his squishy shoes to the edge of the bed and yanks the sheet off the bed.

“Hey!”

“You wanted to be naked so bad, why the sudden modesty?” he snaps.

“Because it’s my body to do with as I please. I wanted to skinny dip out there, and now I want to cover myself in front of you. You’re acting like a loon.”

“I’m acting like a man who doesn’t want to share his woman with the whole fucking world!” He unzips his slacks and shoves them down along with his black boxer briefs. He kicks off his shoes and socks and crawls up the bed pushing me down to hover over me.

Unsure of how far to go, I lower my voice but stand my ground. “I’d hardly say that grandma and grandpa are the whole world, and since when am I your woman?”

“Since the first time I put my mouth on you,” he says and lowers himself down to take my mouth in a rough, demanding kiss. My toes curl, my belly flips, and I fight the urge to wrap my arms and legs around him for oh, maybe two seconds, tops.

It Seemed Like A Good Idea At The Time by Kylie Scott coming August 7th!

“Addictive like all Kylie Scott books, you’ll swoon, laugh, ache, put your life on hold, and compulsively read until the wee hours of the night—only to reread the whole thing the next morning. Perfection!” – Katy Evans, New York Times bestselling author
ISLAGIATT FOR WEB
Blurb: Returning home for her father’s wedding was never going to be easy for Adele. If being sent away at eighteen hadn’t been bad enough, the mess she left behind when she made a pass at her dad’s business partner sure was.

Fifteen years older than her, Pete had been her crush for as long as she could remember. But she’d misread the situation—confusing friendliness for undying love. Awkward. Add her father to the misunderstanding, and Pete was left with a broken nose and a business on the edge of ruin. The man had to be just as glad as everyone else when she left town.

Seven years later, things are different. Adele is no longer a kid, but a fully grown adult more than capable of getting through the wedding and being polite. But all it takes is seeing him again to bring back those old feelings.

Sometimes first loves are the truest. Good-Idea-promo-7 (1).jpg

Top Ten Tuesday: Best Books I’ve Read So Far This Year

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created here at The Broke and the Bookish in June 2010 out of a love of lists. In January of 2018 we decided it was time to close our doors. Top Ten Tuesday now lives with Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl.divider 3

For this Top Ten Tuesday I’m focusing on my top picks for the best books I’ve read so far this year!

10. Escort by Skye Warren
escort.jpg
Blurb: There is no shame in pleasure. And no love in business.
I have a blind date tonight, and I know with 100% certainty that I’m getting lucky. There shouldn’t be any surprises, not for one as jaded as me, but when I walk into the penthouse suite of L’Etoile, everything changes.

1) For one thing, Bea is heartstoppingly gorgeous. Pale green eyes and endless freckles. Curves I want to spend all night exploring, as if her body was made for me.

2) Her innocence makes me want to use my entire inventory of bedroom tricks on her and then invent a few more.

3) Except that . . . she’s a virgin.

I can initiate her into the world of desire without letting her get attached, can’t I? A few hours of tutoring, and at the end of the night a small fortune will be deposited into my bank account.Yes, you read that right. There are many words for what I do. After all, mine is the oldest profession. I’m an escort, which means this date is nothing more than a mutually enjoyable transaction. But once I realize one night with her won’t be enough, I’m the one who’s screwed.

My thoughts: This was my first Skye Warren book and I was truly blown away by how talented she is. I loved the story and Escort took a hold of my heart and ran away with it! Check out the buy links below & the link for my review!

#9 Sinner by Sierra Simone
29197206_2069527846660541_4480355144105459712_o
Blurb: I’m not a good man, and I’ve never pretended to be. I don’t believe in goodness or God or any happy ending that isn’t paid for in advance.

What do I believe in? Money. Sex. Macallan 18.
They have words for men like me—playboy. Womanizer. Skirt chaser.

My brother used to be a priest, and he only has one word for me.
Sinner.

My thoughts: Sierra Simone is one of the best writers in the romance genre book world period, so it’s no surprise that Sinner makes the list! A mix of enthralling, sexual energy with emotional ties Sinner is definitely one Sierra Simone’s best. Check out the buy links below & the link for my review!

#8 Birthday Girl by Penelope Douglas
Teaser-1 (2)
Blurb: JORDAN: He took me in when I had nowhere else to go.
He doesn’t use me, hurt me, or forget about me. He doesn’t treat me like I’m nothing, take me for granted, or make me feel unsafe.
He remembers me, laughs with me, and looks at me. He listens to me, protects me, and sees me. I can feel his eyes on me over the breakfast table, and my heart pumps so hard when I hear him pull in the driveway after work.
I have to stop this. It can’t happen.
My sister once told me there are no good men, and if you find one, he’s probably unavailable.
Only Pike Lawson isn’t the unavailable one. I am.

PIKE: I took her in, because I thought I was helping.
She’d cook a few meals and clean up a little. It was an easy arrangement.
As the days go by, though, it’s becoming anything but easy. I have to stop my mind from drifting to her and stop holding my breath every time I bump into her in the house. I can’t touch her, and I shouldn’t want to.
The more I find my path crossing hers, though, the more she’s becoming a part of me.
But we’re not free to give into this. She’s nineteen, and I’m thirty-eight.
And her boyfriend’s father.
Unfortunately, they both just moved into my house.
*BIRTHDAY GIRL is a stand-alone, contemporary romance suitable for ages 18+.

My thoughts: Maybe it’s because there’s an age difference in my marriage but I am complete sucker for age gap romances. Especially forbidden ones too. The plot was super interesting with a touch of drama and of course lots and lots sexual tension. Douglas’ sense of humor is great too. Definitely one of my favorite age gap difference romances ever. Check out the buy links below & the link for my review!

#7 The Swedish Prince by Karina Halle
s1
Blurb: I never believed in fairy-tales. Never held out for Prince Charming.
Growing up poor in small-town California as the oldest of six siblings, I knew I would never ride off into the sunset with anyone. That was even more apparent when a senseless tragedy took the lives of my parents, forcing me to become the sole guardian of our dysfunctional household at the mere age of twenty-three.

Then a fateful encounter literally brought Prince Charming to my dusty doorstep. At first I thought Viktor was just your average businessman passing through, albeit obscenely handsome, six-foot-five, blue-eyed, and mysteriously rich.

But soon I discovered the truth behind Viktor’s façade. Beneath his quiet, enigmatic gaze and cocky charm, is a man who is running away from who he really is. A role he’d rather not fulfill.

He is Viktor of House Nordin, His Royal Highness, The Crown Prince of Sweden.
Yet uncovering Viktor’s secret was only the first step.
I didn’t expect to fall in love with him.
I didn’t expect to have my whole life turned upside down.
When you’re from two different worlds, can your hearts meet somewhere in the middle?
Or do happily-ever-afters only exist in fairy-tales?
The Swedish Prince is a standalone romance inspired by Roman Holiday.

My thoughts: Besides the horrible cover, I really loved The Swedish Prince. I’ve been trying to expand my reading with authors and this was my first Karina Halle book! She’s funny and has a different sense of writing style than what I’m used to that I really liked. Her characters have this crazy, magnetic chemistry that made me fall head over heels for them! Check out the buy links below & the link for my review!

#6 Blood Oath by Raye Wagner & Kelly St. Clare
blood oath
Blurb: Everything I know is a lie.
I’m an ordinary mortal girl. Lord Irrik is a depraved dragon shifter. King Irdelron is an immortal tyrant. In the disease ridden land of Verald, life is mapped out much like the established rings of our kingdom. Everyone has a role…
Me? I’ll be uselessly serving potato stew for the rest of my life because I can’t make anything grow. But starvation brews rebellion.
When the king strikes, I’m captured by Lord Irrik. Instantly, I’m embroiled in a deadly game. One where I’m desperate to understand the rules. Because nothing makes sense anymore. Now, I’m not only fighting for my life . . . but a love that could be the key to my freedom. What if the truth means you’re not who — or what — you thought you were?

My thoughts: I’ve been really getting back in YA/Mature YA and thanks to Kindle Unlimited I found Blood Oath and was just blown away! I love romance books so much, but there is nothing better than a good YA/Mature YA, fantasy, romance read! Definitely one of my favorite reads of the two and I loved the second book, Shadow Wings too! Check out the buy links below and links to both of my reviews!

#5 A Court Of Frost & Starlight by Sarah J. Maas
A Court Of Frost & Starlight
Blurb: A companion tale to Sarah J. Maas’s #1 New York Times bestselling A Court of Thorns and Roses series that takes place several months after the explosive events of A Court of Wings and Ruin Narrated by Feyre and Rhysand, this story bridges the events in A Court of Wings and Ruin and the upcoming novels in the series. Feyre, Rhys and their companions are still busy rebuilding the Night Court and the vastly changed world beyond. But Winter Solstice is finally near, and with it a hard-earned reprieve. Yet even the festive atmosphere can’t keep the shadows of the past from looming. As Feyre navigates her first Winter Solstice as High Lady, she finds that those dearest to her have more wounds than she anticipated – scars that will have a far-reaching impact on the future of their court.

My thoughts: There was A LOT of thoughts (both good and bad but mainly bad to be honest) on A Court Of Frost & Starlight but I really loved it. I thought it answered a lot of lingering questions from A Court Of Wings & Ruin, wrapped up things nicely for Rhys and Feyre and set things up for the future books. Also, it was a NOVELLA and just some of the reviews I read were just ridiculous to me, you are going put out that much negativity for a novella? Really? Craziness. Check out the buy links below & the link for my review!

#4 Pestilence The Four Horsemen by Laura Thalassa
pestilience
Blurb: They came to earth—Pestilence, War, Famine, Death—four horsemen riding their screaming steeds, racing to the corners of the world. Four horsemen with the power to destroy all of humanity. They came to earth, and they came to end us all.

When Pestilence comes for Sara Burn’s town, one thing is certain: everyone she knows and loves is marked for death. Unless, of course, the angelic-looking horseman is stopped, which is exactly what Sara has in mind when she shoots the unholy beast off his steed. Too bad no one told her Pestilence can’t be killed.

Now the horseman, very much alive and very pissed off, has taken her prisoner, and he’s eager to make her suffer. Only, the longer she’s with him, the more uncertain she is about his true feelings towards her … and hers towards him.
And now, well, Sara might still be able to save the world, but in order to do so, she’ll have to sacrifice her heart in the process.

My thoughts: Pestilence was another book I found on Kindle Unlimited and OH MY GOODNESS. Again, I was completely blown away! Apparently 2018 is the year of getting back into science fiction/fantasy books again because Pestilence was EVERYTHING. I seriously need the second book War RIGHT MEOW. In all seriousness though, if you love science fiction, fantasy, post apocalyptic books with romance mixed in, Pestilence is for you. Check out the buy links below & the link for my review!

#3 Filthy Gods by R. ScarlettFilthy Gods
Blurb: Young. Wealthy. Elite. Attractive. The gentlemen’s secret society at Yale was filled with them. And Nathaniel Radcliffe, the bane of my existence, was one of them.

As the right hand of the American Gods, he was conceited and arrogant. A dangerously handsome man in a tailored custom suit and shiny black oxford loafers.

The classroom was our battlefield. We made a sport out of arguing and debating, ready to do anything in order to win over the other.

Deadly opponents, deadlier minds.
I’d sworn I’d never give him the upper hand, until…
The secret I’ve been hiding for the last three years?
He just discovered it…and now he has all the power.

My thoughts: Filthy Gods is a novella and the prequel for the Filthy Gods series. This was my first R. Scarlett book and before I heard nothing but good things and dang, she did NOT disappoint. Scarlett is an amazing writer that completely transported me into the world of the Filthy Gods and I am honestly so hyped for the rest of the series!

#2 The Fallen World series by Laura Thalassa
Untitled
Blurb: In the future, the world is at war. For the last decade, King Lazuli of the Eastern Empire has systematically taken over the world. No one knows much about him other than a series of impossible facts: he cannot die, he has not aged since the conflict began, and he wants to rule the world.

All Serenity Freeman has known is bloodshed. War has taken away her mother, her home, her safety. As the future emissary of the Western United Nations, the last autonomous region of the globe, she is responsible for forging alliances where she can.

Surrender is on the horizon. The king can taste it; Serenity feels it deep within her bones. There is no other option. Now the two must come face to face. For Serenity, that means confronting the man who’s taken everything from her. For the king, it means meeting the one woman he can’t conquer. But when they meet, something happens. Cruelty finds redemption. Only in war, everything comes with a price. Especially love.

My thoughts: Once I finished Pestilence by Laura Thalassa I needed more of her magical books so I borrowed The entire The Fallen World series through Kindle Unlimited. I was not prepared for how fast and hard I fell for these books. Serenity and Montes are one of the best couples I have ever read about and honestly I don’t think three books were enough to do them justice! Again if you love science fiction, fantasy, post apocalyptic books with romance mixed in, this book series is for you! I haven’t written an official review yet (I want to read them again!) but definitely check them out with the buy links below!

Blog Tour & Excerpt: Rough Edge by CD Reiss

rough-edge-available-now.jpg
Blurb: “Unzip that dress before I shred it.”
You married a decent man. A rock solid, arrogant war hero who knew exactly who he was and what he wanted. He wanted you, and you gave yourself to him.

You are his only desire–the only woman in his orbit–but the intensity of that desire is turning dangerous. Love may be the death of both of you.
NY Times Bestselling author CD Reiss brings dark intensity to a couple so in love, they’ll make the darkest of sacrifices to save each other.

Destroy us both.jpg Excerpt: In the dark, during the fundraising video, she leaned into me, taking my hand. “What’s going on?”

“Nothing.”

“Caden.” My name was more than a statement. It was a comment on how well she knew the animal, and how well she loved it.

If eyes could listen, hers did, gazing at me in the darkness. I couldn’t lie to her for much longer.

The entire invite list was watching the video. The bar was empty. The hallway lights were dimmed. The kitchen staff moved constantly and quietly to set up the buffet.

I laced my fingers in hers. She had a gold band we’d gotten out of expediency. No big sparkling rock. No sign I’d ever courted her properly before marrying her.

My father always said a man didn’t skip steps if he wanted to do something once.

I slid my cheek to hers and whispered in her ear, “I want to destroy you.”

Her hand tightened in mine so tightly I could feel our bones. Her glands must have fired, because the apples and the perfume melded and became something so uniquely her my balls ached—but not for simple release. For something more. An agreement of ownership.

Waiting wasn’t an option.

Pulling her by the hand, I headed for the hallway.

“Caden,” she said when we were away from the event, “slow down.”

I didn’t. I couldn’t. I pulled her down the carpeted steps to the lower level, stepping over a velvet rope at the bottom. The lights were out in the hall. Three doors led to three empty event rooms.

“What’s with you lately?” she asked.

“Are you saying no?”

“I’m asking a question.”

I backed into one of the rooms and pulled her in. It was dark but for light coming from under the doorways on each side. I walked in deeper, eyes adjusting quickly enough to avoid the tables and stacks of chairs on wheeled dollies.

“So am I.” I faced her. “Are you saying no?”

“What are you hoping I’ll say yes to?”

“I’m going to pull that dress up until I can get to these hard nipples.” I pinched them through the dress and she gasped. “Then I’ll bend you over one of these tables and fuck you so hard walking’s going to hurt. Are you saying no?”

“I’m not. But I want to know what’s going on with you.”

“Pull your dress up before I shred it.”

About the Author: CD Reiss is a New York Times bestseller. She still has to chop wood and carry water, which was buried in the fine print. Her lawyer is working it out with God but in the meantime, if you call and she doesn’t pick up she’s at the well hauling buckets.

Born in New York City, she moved to Hollywood, California to get her master’s degree in screenwriting from USC. In case you want to know, that went nowhere but it did give her a big enough ego to write novels. She’s frequently referred to as the Shakespeare of Smut which is flattering but hasn’t ever gotten her out of chopping that cord of wood. If you meet her in person, you should call her Christine.

book teaser

Teaser: Knocked Up by Stacey Lynn

Knocked Up - Teaser 3 (1).jpg
Blurb: First comes love. Then comes marriage. Then comes baby in a baby carriage. Just not necessarily in that order. . . .

Braxton: I should probably be dead or in jail right now. Instead, thanks to some tough love, I worked my ass off and now I own a string of tattoo parlors throughout the Pacific Northwest. And yet the one thing I’ve always wanted—a family—still seems out of reach. When my best friend gets married, I’m just hoping to blow off some steam with the super-hot maid of honor. But after Cara Thompson tracks me down to tell me she’s pregnant, she’s more surprised than I am when I tell her I’m all in.

Cara: For the first time in my life, I’m living for myself—not for my parents and their ridiculous expectations. I gave up on my MBA, dropped out of the Ivy League, and moved to Portland to pursue my dream of becoming an artist. And what’s the first thing I do? Get knocked up. For a tatted-up sex god, Braxton Henley seems way too eager to “be there for me.” Is this guy serious? Maybe. He sure is patient. Because he won’t back down until I admit what I know in my heart: that our one night stand might’ve led me to the one.

Teaser: Mogul by Katy Evans

May 25th.jpgSynopsis: He’s my most delicious secret.

Excerpt: A cool breeze ruffled his shirt as he stood on the wrap around porch. Even outside there was a horde of people drunkenly weaving around. A guy he recognized vaguely as being on the football team entertained his friends by juggling with beer bottles. Predictably, he dropped them all but luckily the grass cushioned their fall and none shattered. The group of stocky football players laughed uproariously and Cameron sighed.

He was just thinking of leaving when he spotted Riley in the crowd, dressed in an even skimpier dress than the one she’d modelled that morning. The sight of her made his heart race. Unable to leave now, he followed her with his eyes as she joined a group of guys on the verge by the road, giggling and flirting, falling all over them. One swooped her up in a fireman’s carry and slapped her butt. She beat his back and struggled, but she was laughing.

When he put her down, another guy grabbed her around the waist and pulled her close. The guy was practically humping her leg and she was acting like it was just a bit of fun, not an insult. Unable to watch any more, he pushed through the crowd toward the street but something made him pause and glance back over his shoulder. Growing up in a rough area, he knew how quickly these things could escalate.

The guy who held her had his hand thrust up her skirt. Riley was no longer laughing and her smile was strained as she tried to shove his hand away.

“Drew, stop it. Don’t touch what you can’t afford,” she joked. When the guy didn’t release her, he stepped forward without a second thought. They were all double his size, but in that moment he didn’t care.

Shoving through their ranks, he demanded, “Let her go.”

There was a moment of awkward silence and then someone snorted. “What are you going to do about it pipsqueak?” Color rose in his cheeks. Instinct told him to back down in the interest of self-preservation, but then he noticed Riley craning her neck to look over at him, her other hand slapping angrily at Drew’s chest.

Squaring his shoulders, Cameron cleared his throat, yet his voice still came out sounding weak. “Get your hands off her, she said stop.” The guy who’d confronted him stepped closer, towering over him, so close that he could smell the beer on his breath. “You want to fight, kid? Come on then.”

Cameron shuffled back a step and his opponent laughed, glancing over his shoulder to encourage his friends. Curling his fingers into fists, he used the moment of distraction to strike. His clenched fist connected with the guy’s jaw and he stumbled back, hand flying up to his bloody lip. There was a brief moment when he got to admire his handiwork, before payback came in the form of a punch to the eye that sent him reeling backward.

He must have blacked out momentarily, because the next thing he knew he was on the ground and someone was standing over him. Anger sparked from Terri as she stood with her hands on her hips, clearly braced for battle.

“What the hell do you think you’re doing?” she shouted.

“We were just having some fun,” Drew replied, releasing Riley who gave him a shove before moving away.

“You broke his glasses,” Terri accused, stabbing a finger at the guy who’d punched him.

“He started it.” Pushing himself upright, Cameron opened his mouth to speak, however, Terri was on a role.

“Hardly a fair fight, was it?” she snorted contemptuously, making him feel about three inches tall. “I’m betting you’d be kicked off the team if Coach found out.”

Drew narrowed his eyes on her threateningly. “You going to rat us out?”

She shrugged indifferently, clearly not cowed. “Maybe, maybe not. Depends if you plan to stump up the money for a new pair of glasses?”

“Hey, Terri, you all right?”

Cameron turned his head to see a tall, lanky guy of either Asian or Indian descent walking towards them. Behind him, two more football players followed and he recognized the one with brown hair as the guy Riley had been flirting with on the quad earlier. Scrambling to his feet, he brushed himself off and pulled off his glasses to check the extent of the damage, though everything was a messy haze without them. They fell apart in his hands.

“You’re gonna have a nice shiner there.” Looking up, he wanted to dislike the brown haired football player that Riley seemed to have a fondness for, but his smile and tone were friendly.

“What are you fuckers up to?” the other guy growled. Tall and broad, with too-long blond hair and a red baseball cap, he was more than a little intimidating.

“Nothing,” someone piped up immediately and the group shifted guiltily, glancing at one another. “Go do nothin’ somewhere else.” Without another word, they scattered, heading into the house.

After a moment, Terri turned to face him. “Are you all right?” she asked. He nodded. His eye throbbed, but it was his pride that really hurt. Clearing his throat, he glanced around, “Is Riley okay?” He couldn’t see her and his stomach dropped.

Without his glasses it was hard to see, but he thought Terri rolled her eyes as she said, “She’s fine, she’s probably gone chasing after them.”

“Terri,” the Asian guy chided and she swung around with a scowl.

“Well, it’s the kind of stupid thing she does all the time,” she snapped. “And you can stop taking her side, you’re supposed to be my friend.”

“I am your friend. I just think you’re a bit harsh on her sometimes.”

“That’s because you didn’t grow up with her, she’ll do anything to get attention. She just can’t handle not being in the limelight.” Cameron watched the back and forth with a sinking feeling in his stomach; he’d always thought there must be more to Riley than what everyone else saw, he’d had faith that under all the flirting and drama she had a heart of gold, but Terri was her twin and she seemed to think Riley was just as shallow as she appeared. Shifting uncomfortably, he felt his ears burning as he drew everyone’s attention back to himself. “I, um, I’m just going to go.”

“How far can you see without your glasses?” one of the other guys enquired, waving a hand in front of his face. “How many fingers am I holding up?”

The blond with the baseball cap punched his arm, growling, “Stop bein’ a dick.” However, when he turned to Cameron his expression wasn’t too terrifying. “You’ll get used to him,” he said. “Dawson likes to wind everyone up.”

Behind his back, Dawson pulled a face and made a hand gesture. “I’m Parker. I think I’ve seen you ‘round, do ya live in Oak, too?”

Nodding cautiously, Cameron racked his brains trying to remember if he’d seen Parker around. He was sure he’d remember if he had; Parker looked like the kind of guy he’d usually try to avoid, but then he did spend most of his free time either working in his room, or in the library. “We’re just headin’ back, mind if we walk with you?”

Again he nodded, though he felt like he’d just accepted a babysitter because they didn’t trust him to walk back to the dorm alone.

Book Blogger Hop: What kind of blog do you have?

Book Blogger Hop (Final).png

The Book Blogger Hop was originally created by Jennifer from Crazy-For-Books in March 2010 and ended on December 31, 2012. With Jennifer’s permission, I relaunched the meme on February 15, 2013. Each week the hop will start on a Friday and end on Thursday. There will be a weekly prompt featuring a book related question. The hop’s purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers to your own blog. All credits & info go to this page <—

This week I chose a question from February: do you prefer to blog about (a) specific book genre(s), or do you have an eclectic blog?

divider 3

Wow! I honestly feel like this question could be answered in several ways but I honestly think that my blog is eclectic. When I first started book blogging in September 2016 I honestly was just focused on the romance genre. I used to read all different genres of books but something just shifted in the Spring of 2016 and it honestly disappointed me.

I’ve always been a fan of Young Adult (YA) books but there were two books that I read during the Spring of 2016 that literally made me stop reading YA all together. They were THAT bad. My other issue with Young Adult books is the fact that they take FOREVER to release! By forever I mean a year up to two years. I understand that logically it makes sense to release books that way but I lose interest really fast and I don’t like waiting! I am a very impatient person and even more of an impatient reader. Unless a book or series really captures my heart, I usually lose interest.

So when I first started blogging I mainly focused on the romance genre which I love! Most books end with happy endings, most releases take a few months and NOT years to release the second book in the series which is huge to me. There’s just something about romance books that I love; ever since I was little I was infuriated with love so I also think that has something to do with it. Another reason I love the romance genre is also because there are SO many different kinds of love and with every book I read I find something new to read about it. It’s also a genre that I feel like that in some shape or form that everyone can find something to relate to. Which is a bit difficult when it comes to YA genre because how we are supposed to relate to things like The Hunger Games or aliens invading our planet? I mean I don’t get right sometimes I do feel like we live in a dystopian world but we aren’t there quite yet

For the longest time I focused on the romance genre when it came to reading, reviewing and promoting books. I tried to get back into the YA genre lots of times but everything I kept reading just disappointed it. It took a year and a half ,but I finally started reading and reviewing the YA genre again in July 2017, I haven’t stopped since AND I haven’t disappointed so maybe I just needed a break from that genre!

Overall I would say Amorette Review’s is a eclectic blog. I love romance but this past year I’ve really tried to get back into YA, fantasy, mature adult and I feel like overall I’m slowly but surely achieving that. That’s the best part of loving and reading books is that you can fall in love with any genre type book, at the end of the day no matter what genre is you essentially just adding another genre to your book collection!

When it comes to blogging, what kind of genres do you focus on when it comes to your blog? Comment and let me know! I would love to hear your thoughts!
