ARC Review: Birthday Girl by Penelope Douglas

Birthday-Girl-EBOOKThe Cover: I love the cover of Birthday Girl! I think it’s so interesting, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a book cover with a picture within the title. A+

Basics: Birthday Girl was released on April 17th 2018 and is part of the Kindle Unlimited program. Genre wise Birthday Girl belongs to contemporary romance, age difference/age gap romance and standalone.

Description:  JORDAN: He took me in when I had nowhere else to go.
He doesn’t use me, hurt me, or forget about me. He doesn’t treat me like I’m nothing, take me for granted, or make me feel unsafe.
He remembers me, laughs with me, and looks at me. He listens to me, protects me, and sees me. I can feel his eyes on me over the breakfast table, and my heart pumps so hard when I hear him pull in the driveway after work.
I have to stop this. It can’t happen.
My sister once told me there are no good men, and if you find one, he’s probably unavailable.
Only Pike Lawson isn’t the unavailable one. I am.

PIKE: I took her in, because I thought I was helping.
She’d cook a few meals and clean up a little. It was an easy arrangement.
As the days go by, though, it’s becoming anything but easy. I have to stop my mind from drifting to her and stop holding my breath every time I bump into her in the house. I can’t touch her, and I shouldn’t want to.
The more I find my path crossing hers, though, the more she’s becoming a part of me.
But we’re not free to give into this. She’s nineteen, and I’m thirty-eight.
And her boyfriend’s father.
Unfortunately, they both just moved into my house.
*BIRTHDAY GIRL is a stand-alone, contemporary romance suitable for ages 18+.

Teaser-1 (1)Overall thoughts: It’s been a long time I’ve reviewed for Penelope Douglas! I loved her other book Punk 57 so much and I am so thankful I was given the opportunity to read and review for her again! Here’s the lowdown on Birthday Girl: Jordan is a hardworking but struggling nineteen year old trying to navigate her way through life with her boyfriend Cole. Pike is Cole’s father trying to stay in his son’s life and keep a relationship with him after struggling to do so for many years. When tensions rises and become rocky between Jordan and Cole, she finds herself in an odd situation with Cole’s father. Not only does she grapple with the fact that she’s starting to feel drawn toward her boyfriend’s father but also the fact that the man she is starting to feel things for is nineteen years older than she is. Which is ironic because that is Jordan’s age.

Birthday Girl was great full of witty lines that made me smile and laugh. The plot was really done and I really loved the chemistry and slow burn romance between Pike and Jordan. I also think that love happens randomly and at the best and worst possible of times and I really enjoyed that aspect when it came to reading Birthday Girl. Overall I loved this book and I plan on adding it to my bookshelf very soon!
