Lies Kylie Scott.jpgExcerpt: “You’re going to break his heart.”

“No, I’m not,” I say. “That’s sort of the whole point. If I really thought leaving him would break his heart, then I probably wouldn’t be leaving him in the first place.”

My best friend, Jen, does not look convinced.

Boxes fill a good half of the room. What a mess. Who knew you could accumulate so much junk in only twelve months? At least we weren’t together so long that I can’t remember who owns what. One year is about the sweet spot for this issue in relationships, apparently.

“The fact of the matter is, we’re not in love. We have no business being engaged, let alone getting married.” I sigh. “Have you seen the packing tape?”

“No. He’s just such a nice guy.”

“I’m not debating that.” I climb to my feet, then head up the stairs to the second bedroom. Thom’s unofficial workout room/home office. Not a room I normally go into. But it only takes a bit of rummaging to find what I’m looking for. Whatever else might be said about them, insurance assessors are organized. The bottom drawer of Thom’s desk has a neat stash of stationery. I grab a couple rolls of thick tape.

“And leaving him this way…” Jen continues as I head back down.

“How many times have I told him we need to talk? He’s always putting it off, saying it’s not a good time. And now he’s away again. I’ve been messaging him for the last week and he barely replies.”

“You know he has to drop everything once a job comes up. I realize he’s not the most exciting guy, Betty, but—”

“I know.” I smack down a line of tape with extra zest, sealing the lid of the last box. In this Operation Abandon Ship Posthaste, I know I’m definitely slightly the bad guy. But not totally. Say sixty/forty. Or maybe seventy/thirty. It’s hard to tell to what degree. “I do know all of that. But he’s always busy with work or away on some business trip. What am I supposed to do?”

A sigh from Jen.

“When you realize you’ve made such a monumental mistake, it’s hard to sit and wait to fix things. Nor is it fair on either of us to keep up the pretense.”

“Guess so.”

“And the fact that he’s yet again made no effort to prioritize our relationship and make a little time for me in his busy schedule is just further proof that I’ve made the right choice in ending this now before it gets any more complicated. End of rant.”

Nothing from her.

“Anyway, you’re supposed to be on my side. Stop questioning me.”

“You wanted to get married and have children so badly.”

“Yeah.” I sit back on my heels. “I blame it all on playing with Ken and Barbie’s dreamhouse when I was little. But it turns out that being in a relationship with the wrong person can be even lonelier than being alone.”

Jen and I have been friends since sharing a room in college. We’ve witnessed the bulk of each other’s dating ups and downs. For some reason, I’m the type of girl who guys will go out with, but don’t tend to stick with. Apparently, I’m fuckable—just not girlfriend material. Maybe it’s my smart mouth. Maybe it’s the whole not fitting current societal expectations of beauty i.e. I’m fat. Maybe I was born under an unlucky star. I don’t know; it’s their loss. Like anyone, I have my faults, but all in all, I’m awesome. And I have a lot to give. Too often in the past few months, I’ve had to keep reminding myself of this fact.

“There are just so many jerks out there,” Jen says. “I was happy that you’d found a good one.”

“I think I’d prefer a jerk who was genuinely into me than a nice guy phoning it in.

Honestly, I’d rather go adopt a dozen cats and settle into old age and isolation than be with someone who treats me as if I’m an afterthought.”

She looks at me for a long moment, then nods slowly. “I’m sorry it didn’t work out.”

“Me too.”

“Time to start filling up the cars. Boy, do you owe me.”

I smile. “That I do.”

Jen stands and stretches before picking up one of the boxes labeled kitchen. “I just didn’t want you to do something you’d regret, you know?”

“I know. Thank you.”

Alone in the two-bedroom condo, everything is silent. My parting letter sits waiting on the coffee table with his name written on the front. A slight bulge in the envelope betrays the shape of my engagement ring. It’s a sweet, simple ring. One small diamond perched on a band of yellow gold. My hand feels wrong without it. Naked. They say there are different love languages and you have to take the time to learn your partner’s needs. It’s like he and I never quite got there. Or maybe I’m just crappy at relationships.

The bridal magazines I’d collected are in the trash. Perhaps I should have taken them into the florist shop where I work so someone could get some use out of them. But this feels more symbolic, more definite. My family are a couple of states away, and I have only a few of what I’d classify as good friends. Being an introvert makes it hard to meet people. A boyfriend, a husband, would mean I’m no longer alone. Someone cares about me and puts me first. At least part of the time. Only Thom doesn’t any of the time, so here we are.

I tighten my ponytail of long dark hair. Then, in a rare display of dexterity that my yoga instructor would be proud of, I stack three boxes in my arms and head outside into the hot afternoon sun. Jen’s Honda Civic is parked at the curb, the trunk standing open as she moves things about inside. My old Subaru sits in the driveway waiting to be filled. Birds are singing and insects chirping. It’s your typical mild autumn day in California.

That’s when the condo blows up behind me.

Blog Tour, Excerpt & Review: Boyfriend Bargain by Ilsa Madden-Mills

Boyfriend Bargain, an all-new sexy and emotional sports romance from Wall Street Journal bestselling author Ilsa Madden-Mills, is available now!
58805555_2699013680112152_5548999580659482624_n.jpg
The Cover: Boyfriend Bargain‘s is very beautiful! I love that the cover model and the cover itself is all in black and white. It’s different from what I’ve seen when it comes to book covers lately and I really think it looks great.

Basics: Boyfriend Bargain was released on May 5th 2019 and is available for FREE on the Kindle Unlimited program. Genre wise Boyfriend Bargain belongs to contemporary romance and sports romance.

Description: Wanted: one hot guy with rock-hard abs and a big stick. Broke and desperate, Sugar Ryan has no use for arrogant, bad boy athletes . . . until she’s forced to bargain with the cockiest of them all. If only he knew she was alive.

Her mission? Get on this hockey player’s radar any way possible. Zack Morgan is the king of the ice and the bedroom—but nothing prepares him for the mystery girl who shows up everywhere he does—frat parties, his favorite bar, and finally his front door with an offer he can’t refuse. The only rule in her boyfriend bargain: no falling in love.

But after one (um, two) smoking-hot hookups, he’s done with pretending and vows to make their fake relationship real. Too bad she can’t trust a player with a reputation for breaking hearts. Will this hockey star score his forever girl or will their Boyfriend Bargain end in heartbreak?
BB - AN
Overall thoughts: Ilsa Madden-Mills is such a gift, I think she has an amazing talent for great storytelling, with kick butt characters you fall in love with and swoon, melt-worthy romance dialogue. Boyfriend Bargain is a contemporary and sports romance book which I really enjoy because they are usually very fun and books that many of us can relate to. That being said, in regards to sports romance focused books football tends to be the sport that I see the most when it comes that genre. I like sports, I played sports growing up and I am drawn to athletes in general; but I despise football. So every time I see a sports romance book that ISN’T football, I’m immediately drawn to that. (Disclaimer: as much as I can’t stand football, some of the BEST sports romance books I have read and pushed through have been centered on football…go figure!)

Zack is the playboy of the hockey team and Sugar just wants to have fun, no love or romance involved. Just fun. She definitely doesn’t want to be with Zack, but fate keeps pulling them together and when they give into the growing heat between them, a connection occurs. However Sugar just wants to focus on having fun, the woman has rules and she wants to stick with them. Unfortunately for her Zack wants more and isn’t willing to let their story end just yet.

Boyfriend Bargain is a great sports romance book, with a fresh take on a love story that usually isn’t seen much in the romance book world: the guy chasing after the girl. I really loved this book and I highly suggest you add it to your bookshelf ASAP!

Excerpt:

“We should kiss, just get it out of the way and move on,” I say, sure of the crazy idea as each second passes.

There’s a hitch in Z’s breath, and his eyes go straight to my lips. “Works for me.”

“But just one. None of that fancy tongue work.”

“Afraid of falling in love with me?” He grins.

Well. My eyes take in the broad shoulders and the dragon tattoo on his muscled chest. He’s definitely my type: pure, grade A male hotness—exactly what I don’t need. “I won’t fall in love.”

Another grin. “Liar.”

Blog Tour: Well Suited by Staci Hart

Well Suited, the final standalone in the Red Lipstick Coalition Series from Staci Hart, is available now!
WS - AN.jpg
Blurb: Chemistry is my love language. I’ve always been able to separate feelings from chemosignals. A shot of dopamine, a dash of serotonin, and a sprinkle of oxytocin—and bam. You’re in love. And when egg meets sperm, you’re pregnant.

I couldn’t even be surprised as I stared down at the little blue plus sign, because I knew exactly when and how, and with whom it happened.

When: approximately five weeks ago.
Who: one night stand.
How: prophylactic malfunction.
The upside? I don’t have to go looking for a suitable mate.

Genetically, he’s the cream of the crop. His musculature is a study in symmetry and strength, his height imposing and dominant. He is a man who thrives on control and command, a man who survives on intelligence and resourcefulness. A perfect male specimen. And the whole package is wrapped up in a flawlessly tailored suit.

I’m having this baby, and he insists we’re well-suited to have it together. And what’s worse? He wants more, in the way of love and marriage. But love isn’t real. It’s just a product of chemistry. And if he changes my mind about that, we’re both in trouble.

GFY - AN IG.jpgExcerpt: It’s getting late and the crowd has shrunk in size considerably, including almost everyone that I saw hanging out with the birthday party. But not Liv. Still, even though the crowd is small, they all cheer when I toss a bottle Rex’s way and he lets it drop almost to the floor before bending at the knees to catch it. He stands back up, swoops his arm in the air, releases his grip on the bottle and snatches it again quickly.

Everyone laughs and claps at his theatrics, a few catcalls are hollered from the back area by the pool table. Even though we’ve been at it off and on all night, they still can’t get enough.

He winks at a pretty girl with chin-length, straight brown hair and she blushes as he raises the vodka bottle high in the air while he’s pouring the liquor into the glass, topping it off with a splash of cranberry juice and wedge of lime.

I don’t even know if she ordered it but he gives it to her anyway and she lifts it to her lips. He leans over the bar, whispering something in her ear. She smiles over the rim of the glass and touches his shoulder flirtatiously. I shake my head, knowing exactly who he’ll be spending his night with.

Speaking of…

My skin prickles, a tingle runs up and down my spine. I don’t need to scan the crowd to know where she is. I move to the end of the bar where she’s sitting now, talking with a friend while pretending not to watch me.

The ‘trio of boobs’, as Liv so eloquently named them, sidles up next to her and orders another round of shots. Of course they’re still here. “Can we get some Slut Juice?” This time it’s a different woman ordering than before.

Liv coughs and I look at her out of the corner of my eye. She bites the corner of her bottom lip and I can tell she’s trying not to laugh.

“Comin’ right up,” I tell them, knocking my knuckles on the wood. The girls giggle and I hear Liv mumble something about them already having enough slut juice. I’m glad my back is turned when she says it so no one sees how hard I’m working to keep a straight face.

Behind me, I hear the same high-pitched voice from earlier paired with cackling laughter when the girl who first approached me earlier tonight says something about my ass and how she hopes I’m going to cash in on that flaming orgy.

“You’re awful,” one of them replies.

“What? Like you weren’t thinking it?”

“Maybe we can get ‘em both to join us.”

I glance at Liv just in time to see her rolling her eyes.

Drinks mixed, I fill their shots and push them in their direction.

“We’re going to get you to join us sooner or later,” the first one purrs.

“Babe?” I hear Liv call out. Scrunching my eyebrows, I look at her to see who she’s talking to. But her focus is on me.

One of the girls huffs beside me when Liv reaches out and lays her hand on my hand that’s resting on the bar.

“Eth? Did you hear me?”

Eth? “Huh?”

She looks at the girls and sighs like she’s really put out. “When he’s working, he’s so focused on making his customers happy. It’s one of the things I love most about him. Though, I have to admit, it kind of sucks when you don’t even hear what your girlfriend is saying.” She offers them a sweet smile while trailing a finger over my hand. Liv turns and looks at me adoringly and sighs. Places her chin in the palm of her hand not touching me. “But just look at him. Could you stay upset with that face? Isn’t he gorgeous?”

One of the girls starts agreeing while one elbows her in the side. They spin around, hair flying behind them as they stomp away.

“You probably just cost me a tip,” I tease.

“Oh please. You should be thanking me.”

It doesn’t go unnoticed that her long, slender fingers are still resting on my hand. The bright pink polish on her fingernails is a stark contrast against my skin and something about it is so completely sexy. I’m also very aware that I haven’t moved my hand either. In fact, if anything, I’m inching it closer to her.

“Thanking you, huh?”

“Uh huh. I probably just saved you from about four STD’s.”

“From who? The…”

“Trio of boobs. Yes. I mean, seriously, who orders slut juice when it’s obvious it’s basically their blood type.”

I bark out a laugh and turn my body so I’m fully facing her. I notice her friend beside us is watching our exchange like we’re the most entertaining thing she’s seen all night. She’s looks to be about ready to pull out a bag of popcorn and settle in for a good show.

“I’m so grateful that you felt the need to step in, pretend to be my girlfriend so they’d back off. I mean, one can only handle receiving so many orgy invitations in one night.”

She lifts a shoulder and I feel her hand flex over mine. “Well, yeah. I’m generous like that.”

I lower my voice and inch closer still. “So it was all for my benefit, huh?”

Liv rubs her lips together and glances down at our hands that are almost linked together now. “Mm hmm. Your benefit only.”

“No other reason to get those girls away from me?”

“You did seem awfully uncomfortable and I assumed you were being nice because it’s kind of your job.”

I lean on the bar so I’m close enough to say into her ear, “You know what I think?”

She shakes her head slightly and I can smell the faint coconut fragrance of her shampoo waft through my senses. I want to thread my fingers through her hair, bury my nose in it, wrap it around my hand while I tip her head back and taste the long column of her neck.

I flip my hand over beneath hers and curl a finger so the tip teases the palm of her hand. I’m hoping for a shiver in response and smile when I receive it.

“I think you were jealous.”

Excerpt:
The hall bathroom door opened, consequently stopping the earth’s orbit and flinging me into space for lack of gravity.

Thomas Bane stepped out of the doorway in slow motion, propelled by a cloud of steam that licked at his glistening body like it wanted to taste him. His hair was black, wet, curling and dripping in rivulets down the planes and valleys of his expansive chest and abs and narrow hips. He had that thing, the trough of muscle bracketing his hips that caught sluicing water and carried it in an angle that would eventually reach that unknown terrain beneath his towel. I saw the ghost of that terrain, the long, cylindrical bulge that was substantial enough to clearly state its presence, even through the thick towel.

He smirked, dragging his hand through his wet hair. I salivated, watching droplets of water roll down his forearm and collect on the tip of his erotic elbow.

“You’re up,” he said.

I blinked, not knowing when I’d set my coffee down or how many minutes—hours? years?—had passed in the time I spent ogling his body.

He sauntered into the room like he wasn’t basically naked. I tried unsuccessfully not to stare at his knees, the place where his ropy thigh connected, the angular muscles of his calves, the curve of his ankle, the broad pad of his foot.

He was perfectly proportioned. Michelangelo would have carved him twenty feet tall, and women would have worshipped at his perfect feet.

Gus bounced when he saw Tommy, his toys forgotten. And when Gus took off running, Tommy stopped, eyes widening and hands splayed in front of him.

“Gus, no,” he commanded. To no one’s surprise, Gus did not listen. He barked once, snagged the hem of Tommy’s towel, and whipped it off him in a single tug that exposed every inch of skin on Thomas Bane’s ridiculous body.

Thank God my coffee was already on the counter. I’d have gotten third-degree burns.

For a split second, Tommy was frozen there in all his natural glory, poised to run after his dog, his face drawn and eyes locked on the sweet, disobedient dog. He wasn’t paying any attention to me.

I, however, gave him my full and undivided consideration.

His thighs were a mass of muscle so hard and defined, the tops were planes that came to a notch at his knee and a point where it met his hip. My eyes caught that trough that had before disappeared and followed it where it pointed—straight to the thatch of dark hair and the member nestled there.

The very thick, very long, mostly limp member.

If I stared at it a second longer, I was going to faint—my vision was already dim, my pulse pumping so hard, I could feel it in my neck, at the back of which a cold sweat had broken.

But he shifted to run after Gus, who was galloping away, trailing the towel behind him.

“Dammit, Gus! Gimme that!”

Then it was the back of him I saw, his hair, the streaming water rolling down all the curves of his shoulders, his back, the valley of his spine, and down to the most perfect ass I’d ever seen in real life.

Well, the only ass I’d ever seen in real life that wasn’t my own, and even that I couldn’t get a good look at without a mirror.

Seriously, that ass. That perfectly sculpted ass, round and tight and curved in the sides, shifting from one side to the other as he ran after the damn dog. My gaze caught a tattoo on one ass cheek, and I squinted at it, trying to make it out.

Tommy bent to snag the end of the towel—I caught sight of his sack and almost dissolved through the floor in an acidic puddle of embarrassment—but when he pulled, Gus spun around, ass in the air and tail wagging as he growled, pulling back.

A string of obscenities left Tommy’s mouth, but I was still gaping and staring at his ass. I realized that I was laughing. It sounded like someone else in a different room.

I wondered absently if this was how it felt to have a stroke.

Blog Tour & Review: Come To Daddy by Brianna Hale

come to daddy ebookThe Cover: I am in LOVE with this book cover! Head over heels! The male model is beautiful yes, but I love the font and the coloring too. Everything just molds and blends in together and I just LOVE it. This book needs to be on my bookshelf immediately!

Basics: Come To Daddy by Brianna Hale was released on December 19th 2019, is the first book in the Love Don’t Cost A Thing series and is 235 pages long. Genre wise Come To Daddy belongs to contemporary romance, erotic romance  and suspense.

Description: Rules for the New Sugar Baby:
1. Are you worth it? Hell yes you are, ten times over
2. Hustle big, hustle hard and get out fast
3. Never, ever fall for your sugar daddy

I’ve always believed “I’m not that sort of girl,” but with my father’s debt to a bloodthirsty crime lord to pay off I have no choice but to dip into the sugar bowl.

Misha, a handsome older billionaire, is willing to pay top price for me. Something about my daddy doesn’t add up but with a debt to pay I don’t have the luxury of being picky. I’m the luxury in his life, his fantasy to fulfil, and I’m going to play my part to the fullest.

My name is Ciara, and when daddy calls, I come.
*** Book one of the LOVE DON’T COST A THING series**

Overall thoughts: Come To Daddy by Brianna Hale was SO good! I devoured this book within in hours! I actually made the mistake of starting this book around 9PM and I was up till 3:30am because I couldn’t put it down! Misha and Ciara made me swoon over and over again and I just loved, loved, LOVED this book!

To be honest, I was a bit wary of this book when I first signed up to review it. I had the wonderful opportunity to read and review for Brianna Hale last year and I wanted to do it again because I really enjoyed The Necromancer’s Bride. But the synopsis for Come To Daddy scared me a bit because I’m not too keen on the whole sugar daddy genre when it comes to romance books. But I gave it a chance and again, I was completely blown away by this book!

Come To Daddy was not what I expected at all! This book is Ciara’s and Misha’s story: a young college student struggling because of her recently departed parents debt and sins and there’s Misha an older gentleman who is focused on his career and doesn’t want to be tied up with his brother’s dirty work anymore, even though the bond between is strong it’s tainted from their past. When Misha sees Ciara being tormented by his brother, something flares up in him and he is immediately drawn to helping her. Offering to become her sugar daddy to help with her parent’s debt and hopefully keep his brother at bay, Misha and Ciara become entangled with falling for one another all the while juggling the incoming danger hanging over their heads. Again when reading the synopsis you wouldn’t think a book like this would be like that but it is! Contemporary romance with a little erotic and a lot of suspense all wrapped into one! Come To Daddy is a must read for the start of 2019 and I CANNOT wait for the second book in the Love Don’t Cost A Thing series!

Blog Tour & Excerpt : Faking It by K. Bromberg

Faking It never felt so good in this red-hot new standalone by New York Times bestselling author K. Bromberg–available now!
profile_outnow.png

Blurb: Zane Phillips mistook me for his dog walker. It shouldn’t surprise me that the man with a suit more expensive than my rent would assume that I was there to serve him. The positive? I put him in his place. The negative? I missed my job interview because of it. Now I find out he’s a rich Australian entrepreneur, and he wants to make up for tanking my interview. Yes, he’s impossibly hot – but he’s also an arrogant jackass – so…no thanks.

But after a little white lie I tell spirals out of control, I’m somehow offered the chance to play Zane’s girlfriend to help promote his new dating website – and the best part? He can’t say no because he’ll get caught in his lie, too.

Little did I know this would entail sharing a tour bus with him for the next few months. The fact that the bus has just one bed isn’t the most ideal of circumstances, but this spokesperson gig might be the kick in the pants my career needs, so why not take a chance? Famous last words.

Now I’m crisscrossing the country – and sharing that bed – with the one guy I can’t stand. And even worse, my traitorous body is wondering at every turn what it’s like to be down under the gorgeous Australian. But as the miles unfurl, so does our passion…and if I’m not careful, I might end up believing that fairy tales really do come true.

Excerpt: “I have connections.” Brilliant, Zane. Fucking brilliant. That’s how you get her to not run away from you? By giving her a sleazy line?  “Maybe I could help you find something.”

“I couldn’t care less about your connections.” She hangs her head and when she lifts it, I watch her reign in the pride I feel like a dick for bruising.  “I’m sorry. That was rude. Like I said, thank you.” She holds up the papers and offers a reticent smile.

“Look . . .” I take a step toward her, more than aware that I don’t want her to go just yet and questioning why I’m even bringing this up. “I have an event I’m holding at the end of the week. You should come. I could introduce you to some people. There might be some job opportunities there.”

“Thanks, but no thanks. I’m not that kind of girl.” The roll of her eyes has me realizing how she took my comment. My laugh makes my dog lift her head. “That’s not exactly what I meant, Harlow. I run a matchmaking website, not an escort service.”

“Good to know. So basically that means you cherry pick the women you want to date after you scope out all their information. I assure you now I can sleep better at night knowing this.”

“You’re exhausting.” And she is, but in the most fascinating of ways.

“You’re one to talk.” She crosses her arms over her chest and lifts her eyebrows.

I hold my hands up. “All I was trying to say is connections matter in this town. You and I both know that. My event . . . there is going to be a lot of people there. Industry people,” I say more than aware I just let it slip that I looked her up and know she works in the industry.

“Good. Great. Can you go now?” But there’s a crack of a smile on her face. A chink in her defensive armor that tells me I’m getting somewhere.

“You have to take opportunities when they present themselves.” She doesn’t say anything but the slight smile remains. “Zane Phillips. Nice to meet you.” I stick my hand out. She looks down at it and nods but doesn’t shake it.

God, she’s stubborn. And damn gorgeous. “And you’re Harlow Nicks.”

“Considering you had my electric bill, I guess that means you know how to read.”

“I do.” I nod. “And I also have your email address from your interview paperwork.”

“Should I worry that you’re stalking me?”

I shake my head and sigh. “I’ll email you the information about the party—”

“—don’t bother—”

“—it’s on Friday night. Cocktail attire. Lots of networking.”

“I won’t read it.”

I flash a megawatt smile at her and then turn to walk away. “Yes, you will.”

And she will.  It’s rare that a woman resists me. She’s trying but I’ll win in the end.  It just seems for the time being that I have my work cut out for me. I’m a man who always has an end goal in mind. Always. There’s no point in setting a goal if you don’t plan on smashing it.  Question is, what in the hell am I aiming for when it comes to Harlow Nicks?

Blog Tour: Pretty Daring by Jenn Hype

Pretty Daring Cover.jpg
Synopsis: If you ask me, foolishness is like beauty – all about the eye of the beholder. For instance – I’ve been told the amount of caffeine I consume on a daily basis will eventually kill me, which makes no sense, because that caffeine is essential to living. Then I have doctors telling me that I need to get more sleep if I want to live a happy, healthy life. I can easily refute those claims, because my life is neither happy nor healthy if I don’t utilize every possible second of each day to ensure my life’s goals are met.

Now I’ve got people claiming that hooking up with the sexy bodyguard I hired after someone tried to kill me in broad daylight is a mistake. And, okay, they might be right about that one. Even I can’t argue that it’s not healthy to sleep with someone you can barely stand to be around outside the bedroom.

But you know what? Life is already short enough. If there’s a chance I might die young, then I’m going to go out with a bang – preferably the kind that comes with an orgasm or twelve.

In Her Space, the stunning conclusion to the Stars Duet by Amie Knight is available NOW!
In-Her-Space-PRINT-FOR-WEB.jpg
Blurb: I was reunited with Livingston Montgomery in the broad sunshine of a Carolina morning, right where she belonged; in the light.

It’d been too long since I’d seen her face. She had changed, but so had I. I was Adam Nova, reformed bad boy.  Now, successful business man.  I had it all, except for the one person I’d always wanted, and now I was back to claim her.

She was living in the shadows, just a shell of the former girl I knew.  But it didn’t matter that she tried to hide from me in the dark. I’d follow her into the deepest depths of hell.
I just wanted to be In Her Space.

Excerpt:
“Come to my office now.” Patience had never been a virtue for this man.

“Adam, please.” My voice even sounded desperate to my own ears. Couldn’t he just give me a break one fucking day? Since he’d been home, my life had been in turmoil.

I think it was the use of his first name that gave him pause and gave me a bit of hope that he was going to leave me the hell alone today.

“My office. Now. I’m the boss.” And then he clicked off.

        “Bastard,” I whispered.

A click. “I heard that.” And then another click.

I rolled my eyes as I cleaned my paper mess. I made sure to take my damn time going to his office. He may have been my boss, but he wasn’t the boss of me. Yeah, I was pretty mature today.

I knocked at the door and no one answered, so I knocked again. Harder.

Eventually, Adam turned the knob and opened it, his cell phone to his ear. He motioned with his hand for me to have a seat in the chair in front of his desk while he sat behind his desk, still on the phone.

The longer I sat there, the angrier I got. I didn’t even want to come in here and he insisted on it so he could sit his ass on the phone and look at me. It didn’t even seem like he was really talking to anyone except for the occasional yes or good from his mouth. He was making my already shitty day even shittier.

He finally hung up the phone and just gazed at me from the other side of the desk. I raised my eyebrows at him. “Was there something you needed from me, Mister Nova?”

He ran a hand over the scruff of his jaw. “Ya know, Liv. This Mister Nova shit is getting really fucking old.”

I wasn’t in the mood for his bullshit today and I could tell he was really planning on giving it to me. “Ya know, Mister Nova, this calling me into your office for no fucking reason is getting really old, too.”

He stood up and stalked around the desk toward me like a predator after its prey. “I hate it when you cuss.”

I pursed my lips. “I hate it when you boss me around.”

“I want to kiss the sass right out of you.”

I stood up and we were toe-to-toe. “Don’t you even think about it,” I breathed.

He grabbed me by my hips and swung me around until I was pinned between him and the desk. “Oh, I think about it all the time and who’s going to stop me?”

My eyes fluttered closed. Oh fuck, he was getting to me. The fever was back. Making me hot and bothered and wanton, but I wasn’t easy. “My knee.”

“Oh, come on.” His nose brushed the side of mine. “I just want a taste.”

The smell of sweet smoke invaded my senses, making me crazed and incredibly dumb because I whimpered. And that was all she wrote.

His hands went to the back of my head and gripped my hair tight, angling my head just how he liked, and he didn’t just press his lips to mine. No, this wasn’t one of Adam’s sweet, thoughtful kisses. He pillaged my mouth. The man kissed me like he was drowning and I was his only source of air.

He bit at my lips and pulled my hair, the sting, the sheer intensity of the moment causing me to groan. I was angry and hot and God, I wanted him. I wanted to forget today. I wanted to bury myself in his kisses and passion for just a few minutes. I wanted to forget the time that had separated us. I wanted to pretend we hadn’t been separated for years and miles. I wanted to remember when he was mine and I was his.

He slid his hand up the outside of my thigh, almost like he’d held my hand all those years ago, with such thought, agonizingly slow and right up under my skirt. My heart raced in my chest. It beat so loudly in my ears, it was all I could hear.

“What are you doing?” I whispered, desperate for him to continue, praying he stopped. This was the best worst idea in the history of ideas.

“What I’ve been wanting to do since I saw you in that little black dress at the Gala. The dress you wore to torture me,” he growled, dropping to a knee while he shrugged out of his suit jacket.

My face grew hot as he pushed my skirt up, trailing his fingers up the outside of my thighs, sliding his palms up the inside, like his hands were on a leisurely walk, instead of seducing the hell out of me.

“This is a bad idea,” I panted, clutching the edge of his desk in my hands as his fingers brushed the apex of my thighs. “You’re my boss. You’re my ex-boyfriend. I’m not even sure you like me.”

“On the contrary, this is the best idea I’ve had in years.” His head dipped, and the sting of teeth right at the top of my thigh was dangerously close to where I ached. “And I’m gonna show you how much I like you.”
