November 13th 2018: Top 5 Worlds I want to live!

1. A Court of Thorns & Roses by Sarah J. Maas
Oh my gosh! I am in love with the world of A Court of Thorns & Roses and honestly I’m a little obsessed with these books and fae! Prythian is such a cool world because it has so many different places with different seasons it would be the perfect world to go because if you get tired from one season, you can go to another court. I would honestly spend a lot of my time in Night and Summer court, maybe in Spring and Autumn too.

2. The Princess Bride by William Goldman
My second pick is The Princess Bride by William Goldman! This book is such a romantic story and I love and adore all the fantasy aspects it has! Pirates, castles, swordsmen, giants, magic and so much more! So many possibilities with this book and I think it would be a complete blast to live in!

3.jpg
3. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by J.K. Rowling
As a life long Harry Potter fan OF COURSE I would want include the Wizarding World in the list of worlds I would to want live in! I am a proud Hufflepuff and I love, love the books. Hogwarts is definitely the first place I would want to be and visit but I especially would want to visit the Wizarding World because of other places like Diagon Alley, Hogsmeade and the Forbidden Forest.

4. The Real series by Katy Evans
If you keep up with my blog you know I am a huge Katy Evans fan. Real is my favorite book of hers and honestly it would be so amazing if I could live in the same world as Remington Tate because he’s my hero. His world is basically like ours but I honestly would just like to meet him and have the chance to tell him how much he means to me.

33858773
Fireblood Dragon series by Ruby Dixon
Besides fae I think dragons are amazing paranormal creatures and although it might not end well for me, I think it would be really cool to be part of the Fireblood Dragon world by Ruby Dixon. It’s a post apocalyptic world so things are bit rough considering dragons have taken over the world but I would still like to visit this world because of the dragons.

divider-3
Those are my picks for Top 5 Tuesday: Worlds I Want To Live In! I think I have a pretty nice mix of choices! Fae, a bit of fairytale with a taste of everything, wizards, a fighter and dragons! If you could live in any book world what would you pick?

Sex in Young Adult Books

Hello friends! How are you doing on this lovely Wednesday? I’m writing this post because I noticed awhile ago that there is a definite divide between readers when it comes to including sex in Young Adult books. For example I actually held a poll on my Twitter about including sex in Young Adults and this was the result:
YA Poll.png
I had around 800+ followers at the time when I posted this poll, (now I’m at 940, yay!) but still I was a bit shocked that 17% said no. Now I feel like I need to clarify a few things about this blog post before diving into it. When I’m talking about including sex in Young Adult books, I think a lot of people would automatically think of what is written in a romance book or something written that is very sensual. The whole purpose of this blog post is not to have the written type of sex that is included in romance books, but to at least include sex in Young Adult books that is at least shows what the characters are doing. For example, I’ve read several Young Adult books that allude to the reader that characters indeed have sex, but instead of going into some sort of detail the section of the chapter ends and the characters wake up together in bed or holding each other somewhere etc.

Which in my personal opinion, as a reader and an American is frustrating because in the United States including sex or explaining anything that deals with sex is an issue. If you’re not an American and you’re reading this blog post, let me explain: in the American school system its preferred by schools and families in general for students to learn abstinence over sex education. Growing up my school district had an outside group come into the school that was run by the local church and instead of teaching my fellow peers and I sex education, they told us to abstain from sex. This was in 5th-6th grade when I was 10-12 years old and we had several other meetings with this church group in 7th-8th grade.

Flash forward to 9th grade where I was a Freshman in High School where I was finally in Health class that taught sex education, very little sex education actually. We were taught about sexual intercourse and the repercussions of having sex like sexual diseases and pregnancy. We were also taught the various stages of puberty in girls and boys, even though the various stages of puberty starting happening to us YEARS ago.

Abstinence over sex education and not including sex in Young Adult books I think the two subjects have a lot of common and it adds up to the whole point of this blog post. That as a generation and Americans are not comfortable with sex. I don’t understand why people are not comfortable with sex, sex education, sex in books/Young Adult books. Sex is part of our lives and I really don’t understand why people are so against it.

divider-3
I came up with this blog post because someone made a comment about a book/book series I love and I’ll just say the book series, A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas. Someone said that it was pushing the boundaries of a Young Adult/Fantasy/Romance genre as a book and series and I was just so confused. They continued to say that what was written in particularly A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas was too much like romance erotica and I was laughing very hard. Calling a book by like A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas erotic was a bit ridiculous, because honestly if you want to read something highly erotic you need to look up this book:
sierra si.png
This is just a teaser of Misadventures with a Professor by the fabulous Sierra Simone. She has written some of the most erotic and dirtiest romance books I have ever read in my life and I love them. I’m not going to include a sample of her writing but the teaser picture of her latest release above should give you a clue of exactly what erotica is.

Calling A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas “too sexual” to be Young Adult is just asinine. For example, in romance books authors call certain parts of the human anatomy names that some may deem dirty or erotic. Maas not once uses those terms and honestly she censors a lot of things too. Not once in the entire A Court of Thorns and Roses series does she overstep those boundaries, but you know for sure as you’re reading along with the books, you KNOW what the characters are doing. She does in a tasteful and meaningfully way! Bravo to Maas for describing what the characters are doing instead of trailing off to another page or skipping the encounter completely.

Circling around to what I said earlier, I feel like people who don’t like seeing sex written in Young Adult books is because of several reasons: one, they are part of that generation where we were taught abstinence over sexual education. Or two they just aren’t comfortable with sex. I don’t think reading about sex should be taboo, for any age. Yes, there should be some boundaries with younger teens and kids reading but taking it out completely? No. Sex is part of our lives, it helps us not only create life but it also connects us to other human beings. Both real and fictional people. I think keeping it out of books, especially Young Adult books is not the right thing to do.

Those are my thoughts with Sex in Young Adult books. What do you think about this subject? Do you agree that sex should be written in Young Adults books or disagree? Why? I would love to hear your guys thoughts!

May 2018 Wrap Up

I can’t believe it’s JUNE! Can you believe it’s June?! It’s officially Summer! I mean technically not until the 21st but still…when it comes to reading, it’s Summer! In this post I’ll be discussing all the books I’ve read last month, my favorites and my disappointments. Happy Reading!
Untitled.png
May started off with lots of hot releases! The first book I read was Bane by LJ Shen which I liked very much but honestly, she needs to put a warning before her books if she’s going to be focusing on triggering topics. It’s an issue and considering I have PTSD myself, I really did not being triggered without warning. But besides that Bane was a solid romance book book. You can check out the blurb, buy links and my review for Bane here <—

The other hot release for the beginning of May was A Court Of Frost & Starlight by Sarah J. Maas. I am a huge A Court Of Thorns & Roses series fangirl and I really loved this novella. Heck, it was actually pretty long for a novella! Usually novellas (in my reading experience) are shorter than 100 pages, so the fact that Maas gave us a 272 page novella tying up events that happened in A Court Of Wings & Ruin AND set up storylines for the future of this series? A+ from me. You can check out the blurb, buy links & my review here <—

Untitled 2.png
The next two books I read completely came out of left field for me and really just rocked my ever loving mind, I seriously fell head over heels over these books and I immediately wanted to read more books from the authors. R. Scarlett was such a joy for me, her writing is so well written and her characters just wiggle their way into your heart so quickly! Filthy Gods was a prequel novella and I’m super excited for what’s to come for the Filthy Gods series! You can check out the blurb, buy links and my review here <—

I was pretty much doomed when I borrowed Pestilence by Laura Thalassa from the Kindle Unlimited program and it’s safe to say the woman’s books have taken over my life. This book had me hooked from the first page to the last, I couldn’t put it down and I’m quite put out that I have to wait more books for this series! Pestilence definitely will be high on my list for best books of the year. You can check out the blurb, buy links and my review here <—

Untitled
All of Laura Thalassa’s books are on Kindle Unlimited and I had some time in between ARC’s so I borrowed her Fallen World Series and again I was completely blown away! Holy cow this woman can WRITE A STORY! Post apocalyptic, romance, science fiction, full of action and drama? SIGN ME UP. I currently do not have full out reviews for these books but I plan to soon!

Untitled 3.png
I’ve been slowly but surely getting back into reading Young Adult books and I finally read the duet of Daughter of the Pirate King and Daughter of the Siren Queen! Tricia Levenseller is pure magic! She wrote such a great duet full of adventure, romance, well written heroine and overall had a great Pirates of the Caribbean vibe to it! I really loved these two books and I will definitely have my eye on any future Levenseller releases.

Untitled 4.png
I love supporting good causes and Cocktales the Cocky Collective is one of the best ones. Each story was specifically written for this anthology. The goal of the Cocktales Anthology is to raise funds to fight against obstruction of creative expression. Specifically, what we believe are obstruction attempts through the trademarking of common (single) words for titicular use in books / or as a book series (eBooks, print, and audio). Cocktales will only be available May 26th-August 26th. You can check out the full list of authors included in Cocktales and buy links here <–

Since I loved Laura Thalassa’s other series so much I read Rhapsodic and I was disappointed by it. I thought it was well written, the characters dynamic and intriguing but it just wasn’t my cup of tea sadly.
Mogul-Teaser5-AN (1)
The last book I read for May was Mogul by Katy Evans. She has been on a standalone kick lately and honestly I think she’s quite fabulous at it. Ian and Sara were a lot different from her usual couples but that’s what made me love them and enjoy Mogul so much! You can check out the full blurb, buy links and my review here <—
divider 3
I read 12 books for May 2018 and it was a really exciting, fun and surprising month for reading for me. I’m looking forward to the rest of the Summer bookwise but I definitely think I’m gonna slow down when it comes to ARC’S for June. What were some of your reads for May, comment and tell me!

Top Ten Tuesday: Best Books I’ve Read So Far This Year

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created here at The Broke and the Bookish in June 2010 out of a love of lists. In January of 2018 we decided it was time to close our doors. Top Ten Tuesday now lives with Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl.divider 3

For this Top Ten Tuesday I’m focusing on my top picks for the best books I’ve read so far this year!

10. Escort by Skye Warren
escort.jpg
Blurb: There is no shame in pleasure. And no love in business.
I have a blind date tonight, and I know with 100% certainty that I’m getting lucky. There shouldn’t be any surprises, not for one as jaded as me, but when I walk into the penthouse suite of L’Etoile, everything changes.

1) For one thing, Bea is heartstoppingly gorgeous. Pale green eyes and endless freckles. Curves I want to spend all night exploring, as if her body was made for me.

2) Her innocence makes me want to use my entire inventory of bedroom tricks on her and then invent a few more.

3) Except that . . . she’s a virgin.

I can initiate her into the world of desire without letting her get attached, can’t I? A few hours of tutoring, and at the end of the night a small fortune will be deposited into my bank account.Yes, you read that right. There are many words for what I do. After all, mine is the oldest profession. I’m an escort, which means this date is nothing more than a mutually enjoyable transaction. But once I realize one night with her won’t be enough, I’m the one who’s screwed.

My thoughts: This was my first Skye Warren book and I was truly blown away by how talented she is. I loved the story and Escort took a hold of my heart and ran away with it! Check out the buy links below & the link for my review!

#9 Sinner by Sierra Simone
29197206_2069527846660541_4480355144105459712_o
Blurb: I’m not a good man, and I’ve never pretended to be. I don’t believe in goodness or God or any happy ending that isn’t paid for in advance.

What do I believe in? Money. Sex. Macallan 18.
They have words for men like me—playboy. Womanizer. Skirt chaser.

My brother used to be a priest, and he only has one word for me.
Sinner.

My thoughts: Sierra Simone is one of the best writers in the romance genre book world period, so it’s no surprise that Sinner makes the list! A mix of enthralling, sexual energy with emotional ties Sinner is definitely one Sierra Simone’s best. Check out the buy links below & the link for my review!

#8 Birthday Girl by Penelope Douglas
Teaser-1 (2)
Blurb: JORDAN: He took me in when I had nowhere else to go.
He doesn’t use me, hurt me, or forget about me. He doesn’t treat me like I’m nothing, take me for granted, or make me feel unsafe.
He remembers me, laughs with me, and looks at me. He listens to me, protects me, and sees me. I can feel his eyes on me over the breakfast table, and my heart pumps so hard when I hear him pull in the driveway after work.
I have to stop this. It can’t happen.
My sister once told me there are no good men, and if you find one, he’s probably unavailable.
Only Pike Lawson isn’t the unavailable one. I am.

PIKE: I took her in, because I thought I was helping.
She’d cook a few meals and clean up a little. It was an easy arrangement.
As the days go by, though, it’s becoming anything but easy. I have to stop my mind from drifting to her and stop holding my breath every time I bump into her in the house. I can’t touch her, and I shouldn’t want to.
The more I find my path crossing hers, though, the more she’s becoming a part of me.
But we’re not free to give into this. She’s nineteen, and I’m thirty-eight.
And her boyfriend’s father.
Unfortunately, they both just moved into my house.
*BIRTHDAY GIRL is a stand-alone, contemporary romance suitable for ages 18+.

My thoughts: Maybe it’s because there’s an age difference in my marriage but I am complete sucker for age gap romances. Especially forbidden ones too. The plot was super interesting with a touch of drama and of course lots and lots sexual tension. Douglas’ sense of humor is great too. Definitely one of my favorite age gap difference romances ever. Check out the buy links below & the link for my review!

#7 The Swedish Prince by Karina Halle
s1
Blurb: I never believed in fairy-tales. Never held out for Prince Charming.
Growing up poor in small-town California as the oldest of six siblings, I knew I would never ride off into the sunset with anyone. That was even more apparent when a senseless tragedy took the lives of my parents, forcing me to become the sole guardian of our dysfunctional household at the mere age of twenty-three.

Then a fateful encounter literally brought Prince Charming to my dusty doorstep. At first I thought Viktor was just your average businessman passing through, albeit obscenely handsome, six-foot-five, blue-eyed, and mysteriously rich.

But soon I discovered the truth behind Viktor’s façade. Beneath his quiet, enigmatic gaze and cocky charm, is a man who is running away from who he really is. A role he’d rather not fulfill.

He is Viktor of House Nordin, His Royal Highness, The Crown Prince of Sweden.
Yet uncovering Viktor’s secret was only the first step.
I didn’t expect to fall in love with him.
I didn’t expect to have my whole life turned upside down.
When you’re from two different worlds, can your hearts meet somewhere in the middle?
Or do happily-ever-afters only exist in fairy-tales?
The Swedish Prince is a standalone romance inspired by Roman Holiday.

My thoughts: Besides the horrible cover, I really loved The Swedish Prince. I’ve been trying to expand my reading with authors and this was my first Karina Halle book! She’s funny and has a different sense of writing style than what I’m used to that I really liked. Her characters have this crazy, magnetic chemistry that made me fall head over heels for them! Check out the buy links below & the link for my review!

#6 Blood Oath by Raye Wagner & Kelly St. Clare
blood oath
Blurb: Everything I know is a lie.
I’m an ordinary mortal girl. Lord Irrik is a depraved dragon shifter. King Irdelron is an immortal tyrant. In the disease ridden land of Verald, life is mapped out much like the established rings of our kingdom. Everyone has a role…
Me? I’ll be uselessly serving potato stew for the rest of my life because I can’t make anything grow. But starvation brews rebellion.
When the king strikes, I’m captured by Lord Irrik. Instantly, I’m embroiled in a deadly game. One where I’m desperate to understand the rules. Because nothing makes sense anymore. Now, I’m not only fighting for my life . . . but a love that could be the key to my freedom. What if the truth means you’re not who — or what — you thought you were?

My thoughts: I’ve been really getting back in YA/Mature YA and thanks to Kindle Unlimited I found Blood Oath and was just blown away! I love romance books so much, but there is nothing better than a good YA/Mature YA, fantasy, romance read! Definitely one of my favorite reads of the two and I loved the second book, Shadow Wings too! Check out the buy links below and links to both of my reviews!

#5 A Court Of Frost & Starlight by Sarah J. Maas
A Court Of Frost & Starlight
Blurb: A companion tale to Sarah J. Maas’s #1 New York Times bestselling A Court of Thorns and Roses series that takes place several months after the explosive events of A Court of Wings and Ruin Narrated by Feyre and Rhysand, this story bridges the events in A Court of Wings and Ruin and the upcoming novels in the series. Feyre, Rhys and their companions are still busy rebuilding the Night Court and the vastly changed world beyond. But Winter Solstice is finally near, and with it a hard-earned reprieve. Yet even the festive atmosphere can’t keep the shadows of the past from looming. As Feyre navigates her first Winter Solstice as High Lady, she finds that those dearest to her have more wounds than she anticipated – scars that will have a far-reaching impact on the future of their court.

My thoughts: There was A LOT of thoughts (both good and bad but mainly bad to be honest) on A Court Of Frost & Starlight but I really loved it. I thought it answered a lot of lingering questions from A Court Of Wings & Ruin, wrapped up things nicely for Rhys and Feyre and set things up for the future books. Also, it was a NOVELLA and just some of the reviews I read were just ridiculous to me, you are going put out that much negativity for a novella? Really? Craziness. Check out the buy links below & the link for my review!

#4 Pestilence The Four Horsemen by Laura Thalassa
pestilience
Blurb: They came to earth—Pestilence, War, Famine, Death—four horsemen riding their screaming steeds, racing to the corners of the world. Four horsemen with the power to destroy all of humanity. They came to earth, and they came to end us all.

When Pestilence comes for Sara Burn’s town, one thing is certain: everyone she knows and loves is marked for death. Unless, of course, the angelic-looking horseman is stopped, which is exactly what Sara has in mind when she shoots the unholy beast off his steed. Too bad no one told her Pestilence can’t be killed.

Now the horseman, very much alive and very pissed off, has taken her prisoner, and he’s eager to make her suffer. Only, the longer she’s with him, the more uncertain she is about his true feelings towards her … and hers towards him.
And now, well, Sara might still be able to save the world, but in order to do so, she’ll have to sacrifice her heart in the process.

My thoughts: Pestilence was another book I found on Kindle Unlimited and OH MY GOODNESS. Again, I was completely blown away! Apparently 2018 is the year of getting back into science fiction/fantasy books again because Pestilence was EVERYTHING. I seriously need the second book War RIGHT MEOW. In all seriousness though, if you love science fiction, fantasy, post apocalyptic books with romance mixed in, Pestilence is for you. Check out the buy links below & the link for my review!

#3 Filthy Gods by R. ScarlettFilthy Gods
Blurb: Young. Wealthy. Elite. Attractive. The gentlemen’s secret society at Yale was filled with them. And Nathaniel Radcliffe, the bane of my existence, was one of them.

As the right hand of the American Gods, he was conceited and arrogant. A dangerously handsome man in a tailored custom suit and shiny black oxford loafers.

The classroom was our battlefield. We made a sport out of arguing and debating, ready to do anything in order to win over the other.

Deadly opponents, deadlier minds.
I’d sworn I’d never give him the upper hand, until…
The secret I’ve been hiding for the last three years?
He just discovered it…and now he has all the power.

My thoughts: Filthy Gods is a novella and the prequel for the Filthy Gods series. This was my first R. Scarlett book and before I heard nothing but good things and dang, she did NOT disappoint. Scarlett is an amazing writer that completely transported me into the world of the Filthy Gods and I am honestly so hyped for the rest of the series!

#2 The Fallen World series by Laura Thalassa
Untitled
Blurb: In the future, the world is at war. For the last decade, King Lazuli of the Eastern Empire has systematically taken over the world. No one knows much about him other than a series of impossible facts: he cannot die, he has not aged since the conflict began, and he wants to rule the world.

All Serenity Freeman has known is bloodshed. War has taken away her mother, her home, her safety. As the future emissary of the Western United Nations, the last autonomous region of the globe, she is responsible for forging alliances where she can.

Surrender is on the horizon. The king can taste it; Serenity feels it deep within her bones. There is no other option. Now the two must come face to face. For Serenity, that means confronting the man who’s taken everything from her. For the king, it means meeting the one woman he can’t conquer. But when they meet, something happens. Cruelty finds redemption. Only in war, everything comes with a price. Especially love.

My thoughts: Once I finished Pestilence by Laura Thalassa I needed more of her magical books so I borrowed The entire The Fallen World series through Kindle Unlimited. I was not prepared for how fast and hard I fell for these books. Serenity and Montes are one of the best couples I have ever read about and honestly I don’t think three books were enough to do them justice! Again if you love science fiction, fantasy, post apocalyptic books with romance mixed in, this book series is for you! I haven’t written an official review yet (I want to read them again!) but definitely check them out with the buy links below!

#1 Mogul by Katy Evans
mogulBlurb: He’s my most delicious secret.
The hot Suit I had a one-night stand with one evening.
I didn’t know anything about him, not even his name.
Only that we shared a taxi, and he was staying at the hotel where I worked.
We met in room 1103. Where he commanded not only my body but my soul.
The next day he was gone and I only had a memory of him.
I could still taste his kisses, feel his demanding touch.
I searched for him for months. Daydreaming about him. Wondering if I’d ever find him.
Until the day I find myself staring face to face with his jeweled black eyes again.
He says lets keep it casual, and my heart knows that falling for this workaholic in a three-thousand-dollar suit is off the table.
Because he has a secret. One that’s a deal breaker for me.
My Suit has a name. Ian Ford. And this is our story.
*Mogul contains characters from Tycoon, but is written to be read as a standalone.*

My thoughts: It shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone that follows this blog that my #1 pick for the Top Ten Books of the year so far is Mogul by Katy Evans. Mogul was just so different from her other books and I really, really loved the change! It was still Katy but just different. Definitely one of my favorite standalones and a book you need to put on your TBR!

Review: A Court Of Frost & Starlight by Sarah J. Maas

168119631x.jpgThe Cover: I love ALL the covers that are part of the A Court Of Thorns & Roses series but the cover of A Court Of Frost & Starlight is so BEAUTIFUL. It’s probably my favorite to be honest! Feyre looks AMAZING and all the little details on the cover just makes me want to hug it! So pretty! A+

Basics: A Court Of Frost & Starlight was released on May 1st 2018, published by Bloomsbury YA and is 272 pages. A Court Of Frost & Starlight is a novella focusing on the events that occurred after A Court Of Wings & Ruin (book #3 in the series.) Genre wise A Court Of Frost & Starlight belong to Fantasy, Mature Young Adult, Standalone/novella and Romance.

Description: A companion tale to Sarah J.
A Court Of Frost & Starlight.jpgOverall thoughts: I loved A Court Of Frost & Starlight so much! I wish it had been a full length book to be honest, but it was perfect as novella. It wrapped up some questions that were left behind in A Court Of Wings and Ruin and also got me curious for the next book! Feyre and Rhysand are everything and I could probably read ten or five million more books based on them alone. Besides the growing tensions in other courts and the aftermath of the war with Hybern, it was refreshing to just read about the lives of the Night Court. Feyre and Rhys could just be together and it was a nice change of pace.

I also liked the fact that several chapters were based on other character’s points of view. Although when it came to reading other character’s POV it brought more questions which was a bit annoying, but it set things up for the next book. Which brings me up to the next part of this review: Nesta and Cassian. Man…these two are probably the most angsty couple I have ever read about and they really aren’t a couple yet! No spoilers, but the majority of this book focused on how every character was dealing with the aftermath of the war and all the changes that occurred. It was very hard to read Nesta’s POV, my heart goes out to her and also to Cassian. They are both broken people that I just wished would come together so they could finally heal and be happy, maybe in the next set of books? Which brings up another big question, Sarah J. Maas said that it would be pretty clear what characters the next set of books would focus on when it came A Court Of Frost & Starlight; but she had several characters point of views in A Court Of Frost & Starlight. minus Feyre and Rhysand it seemed to me that the next set of books would focus on the Inner circle which could mean: Nesta, Cassian, Elain, Lucien, Mor and Amren. Question is, will the next book focus on one POV or two? Or even more than two? I’m excited for the future but I wished we didn’t have to wait so long!

A Court Of Frost & Starlight was a light, happy read showcasing the aftermath events of A Court Of Frost & Starlight. Clearly not everyone was happy but if all the characters weren’t happy, more books wouldn’t be published. I really liked the back and forth of POV’s between Feyre and Rhysand, I actually wish we could get the whole entire series from Rhy’s point of view. I also really enjoyed how their was more of a romance element in A Court Of Frost & Starlight too, after everything Feyre and Rhys have been through they NEEDED some happy in the lives desperately.

I am so looking forward to the future of this series and the expansion beyond the Night Court. A Court Of Frost & Starlight will definitely be high on my list of best 2018 books at the end of the year. Till next time Court lovers: to the stars who listen and to the dreams that are answered!

Review: A Court Of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J. Maas

winga.jpg The Cover: This cover is perfection! Minus showing her face, it shows Feyre in all her rebel, resilient, beautiful, warrior glory. It’s one of my favorite covers ever! A+

Basics: A Court Of Wings and Ruin was released on May 2nd, 2017, published by Bloomsbury USA Childrens and is 720 pages long. Genre wise A Court Of Wings and Ruin belongs to belongs to belongs to Young Adult, Fantasy, Fiction and Romance.

But to do so she must play a deadly game of deceit-and one slip may spell doom not only for Feyre, but for her world as well.

As war bears down upon them all, Feyre must decide who to trust amongst the dazzling and lethal High Lords-and hunt for allies in unexpected places.

A Court Of Wings & Ruin.jpg
Overall thoughts: A Court of Wings and Ruin is literally the perfect ending to a book series, but the best part? It’s not! The world of A Court Of Thorns and Roses is continuing on! Which is fantastic because A Court of Wings and Ruins was great but left a lot of unanswered questions, but we will discuss that later in this review. For now let’s discuss the heart and soul of this amazing book: Feyre.

I’ll start with Feyre because I’ll be honest, I have a girl crush on her. Feyre is such an amazing character because if you compare her from where she was in book one, AKA A Court Of Thorns And Roses to now, A Court Of Wings and Ruins…the character development is just out of this world. I have read a book that included a character that grew as much as Feyre did; sure she went through a lot of heartbreaking and horrible experiences but honestly that made root for her! Every time Feyre stood up for herself and her family in A Court Of Wings and Ruin I literally wanted to stop reading and just cheer for her. It was SO empowering and Feyre is the type of heroine that every young teenager going through something horrible needs to read about, heck Feyre is the character EVERYONE needs to read about when they are having a hard time. She will forever be one of my favorite characters and I’m excited for the future of the A Court Of Thorns And Roses book series because I am sure she will only continue to grow and be amazing.

Story wise A Court Of Wings And Ruin has A LOT of ground to cover and finish up. Feyre and Rhysand were apart last time we saw them in A Court Of Mist And Fury, Prythian is on the verge of war, Lucian announced that Elain (Feyre’s sister) is his mate, Nesta (Feyre’s other sister) and Cassian have this weird dynamic going on that is interesting and confusing, did I mention that Prythian was about to be invaded and um, hello…war! Honestly I was a bit concerned because the way everything ended, there was STILL a lot of unanswered questions and no spoilers, but what happened towards the end of A Court Of Wings And Ruin brought up even MORE questions. Thankfully the series will continue on in a novella releasing May 1st, 2018 A Court Of Frost And Starlight that will hopefully wrap up the loose ends and be the platform for more books in this series. Which has been confirmed so get excited people!

Overall I loved A Court Of Wings And Ruin and I think for the most part was the perfect ending to the first three books in this series.

Waiting on Wednesday

Hello friends! It’s been a hot minute since I’ve done a book blogging meme post! Waiting On Wednesday is a book blogging meme that was first started by the book blog Breaking the Spine. It describes a book/books you are waiting to read and haven’t been released and for this entry I have a few to share with you!

frost
Blurb: Narrated by Feyre and Rhysand, this bridges the events in A Court of Wings and Ruin and the upcoming novels in the series.

Feyre, Rhys, and their close-knit circle of friends are still busy rebuilding the Night Court and the vastly-changed world beyond. But Winter Solstice is finally near, and with it, a hard-earned reprieve. Yet even the festive atmosphere can’t keep the shadows of the past from looming. As Feyre navigates her first Winter Solstice as High Lady, she finds that those dearest to her have more wounds than she anticipated–scars that will have far-reaching impact on the future of their Court.

Blurb: He’s my most delicious secret.
The hot Suit I had a one-night stand with one evening.
I didn’t know anything about him, not even his name.
Only that we shared a taxi, and he was staying at the hotel where I worked.
We met in room 301.

I don’t know about you but I am SUPER impatient when it comes to waiting for books, that’s my main issue with Young Adult books. You read one and you have to wait up to a year or longer for the next one which I think is kind of crazy to be honest. At least with romance books you only have to wait a few months or probably even less. I think the longest I’ve waited for a romance book was was six months which is pretty much my limit. Anyway, what book or books are you waiting on this Wednesday? Let me know!

Review: A Court Of Mist And Fury by Sarah J. Maas

fury The Cover: I adore this cover and honestly it’s my favorite cover of this series. Feyre looks strong and powerful and I don’t even care that I can’t see her face because she looks THAT fierce.

Basics: A Court Of Mist And Fury was released on May 3rd, 2016, published by Bloomsbury USA and is 626 pages long. Genre wise A Court Of Mist and Fury belongs to belongs to Young Adult, Fantasy, Fiction and Romance.

Description: Feyre survived Amarantha’s clutches to return to the Spring Court–but at a steep cost. Though she now has the powers of the High Fae, her heart remains human, and it can’t forget the terrible deeds she performed to save Tamlin’s people.

Nor has Feyre forgotten her bargain with Rhysand, High Lord of the feared Night Court. As Feyre navigates its dark web of politics, passion, and dazzling power, a greater evil looms–and she might be key to stopping it. But only if she can harness her harrowing gifts, heal her fractured soul, and decide how she wishes to shape her future–and the future of a world cleaved in two.
A Court of Mist & Fury.jpg
Overall thoughts: What a ride A Court Of Mist and Fury was! I haven’t read a book this long since Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and I don’t regret any of it. Sarah J. Maas is one of the best authors of all time and this book is just proof of the magic she possesses. Last time we left Feyre she was back in the Spring Court experiencing a new life, literally. Feyre has been turned into an immortal fae, destined to live forever; she may be fae now but there is something inside her now, something that is just pulsating to get out. On top of getting used to her new life and body, the Spring Court is rebuilding and Tamlin isn’t quite the Tamlin she remembered. What is exactly Feyre’s role in Spring Court and how does she fit in there? That’s only the beginning of her problems.

We thought with the demise of the wretched Amarantha that Phythian would finally be at peace, along Feyre was reunited with her true, love. She thought that happily ever after wasn’t too far from the horizon. But Feyre is still plagued with what happened under the Mountain and can’t help notice the distance between her and Tamlin. Again…everything isn’t always what it seems. When everything seems hopeless for Feyre, the person to comes to her rescue is Rhysand of all people, the High Lord of the Night Court. Feyre and company may of escaped from Under the Mountain and broke the curse on Phythian but the trouble for Feyre and company are only the beginning.

A Court of Mist and Fury is one of the best books I have ever read and I highly suggest reading it immediately or adding to your to read list. Another reason I love this book so much that I can guarantee you that you will be able to relate to one of these characters and their experiences, good or bad. As a reader being able to relate to a character personally for me, makes me love the book even more and I’m sure the same could be said for you! My review of the third book in this series, A Court Of Wings and Ruin will be out soon!

Review: A Court Of Thorns And Roses by Sarah J. Maas

Hello friends! It’s been awhile since I’ve reviewed anything but ARC’s right? I’ve been having the winter blues and missing my Dad lately so I’ve been re-reading a lot of my favorite books to help me feel better. AND I will be attending Apollycon in March and will be meeting the FABULOUS legend, Sarah J. Maas! She is the New York Times best selling author of The Throne Of Glass series and my favorite Young Adult series EVER, the amazing A Court of Thorns and Roses series. Before I became a book blogger and really dived into the romance book world, I was a HUGE reader of Young Adult books. However in 2015 I read two books that seriously killed my love for Young Adult, they upset me so much that I just went cold turkey and stopped reading Young Adult books, completely. So I stopped reading Young Adult books and jumped into the romance book world and haven’t looked back sine. I kept trying to read Young Adult books in between my romance books but nothing made me want to keep reading Young Adult books, I just kept getting disappointed repeatedly. It was almost if those two books that made me stop reading Young Adult books cursed me from reading more Young Adult books! Until I stumbled upon A Court of Thorns and Roses. In July 2017 I was waiting for my husband to come home from deployment and I was getting more and more upset because he kept getting delayed. I went to Target to look for a new book to keep my mind off things and there it was on the shelf, this beautiful cover of a woman surrounded by thorns caught my eye. Twenty four hours later and I was hooked. I immediately brought the rest of the series on my kindle and I’m pretty sure I hardly slept the next week reading this series. A Court of Thorns and Roses blew me away and awakened my love for Young Adult books again. To be honest, this book and the rest of the series could be read as a Young Adult series or just a regular fiction/fantasy/romance book, it’s written THAT well. I love this book and series, Sarah J. Maas is a true gift to this crazy world we live in and I just wanted to share that small backstory before starting this review. Enjoy!

The Cover: They say don’t judge a book by it’s cover but honestly, I had NO IDEA what this book was about and I picked it up because of it’s eye catching beautiful cover. I also love how it reflects the main character, Feyre’s attitude. A+

Basics: A Court Of Thorns And Roses was released on May 5th, 2015, published by Bloomsbury USA and is 432 pages long. Genre wise A Court Of Thorns and Roses belongs to Young Adult, Fantasy, Fiction and Romance.

Description: When nineteen-year-old huntress Feyre kills a wolf in the woods, a beast-like creature arrives to demand retribution for it. Dragged to a treacherous magical land she only knows about from legends, Feyre discovers that her captor is not an animal, but Tamlin–one of the lethal, immortal faeries who once ruled their world.

As she dwells on his estate, her feelings for Tamlin transform from icy hostility into a fiery passion that burns through every lie and warning she’s been told about the beautiful, dangerous world of the Fae. But an ancient, wicked shadow over the faerie lands is growing, and Feyre must find a way to stop it . . . or doom Tamlin–and his world–forever.

*pictures are not mine*

Overall thoughts: I love this book, there are really no words to express or convey how much I loved and adored this book and the rest of the series. A Court Of Thorns and Roses is a beautiful painting of emotions, watercolor mixed with the best story lines and characters in all of Young Adult, Fiction, Fantasy and Romance genre history. PERIOD. Feyre is one of those rare heroines that can both appeal to young adults AND adult readers. She is fierce, strong and can be looked up to by anyone. Feyre is a huntress that is trying to take care of her family when suddenly her entire life changes. She is forced to leave her sisters and father and is taken to the Fae world. Little does she know that not everything is what it seems and she is there for a reason.

The world of A Court Of Thorns And Roses is a magical, fantastic journey for anyone that wants to escape the harsh realities of our world. There are lessons that I feel like everyone needs to learn from this book, lessons that anyone could relate to and learn from. Another reason I love A Court Of Thorns And Roses so much because its a page turner, from the moment you start the book you want to know what’s going on or what’s going to happen next. It was a book I couldn’t put down and a book I finished within a day.

It has been a long time since I’ve fallen in love with a book and it’s series like this so much (which is something very hard to do mind you!) and I sincerely hope you will check out A Court Of Thorns And Roses and the rest of this series. I will be posting my review of the second book, A Court Of Mist and Fury soon!

Favorite Quotes: “I love you, thorns and all.” -Tamlin

“Be glad of your human heart, Feyre. Pity those who don’t feel anything at all.” -Rhysand
