ARC Review, Blog Tour & Excerpt: His Pawn by Emily Snow

His Pawn Ebook.jpg

The Cover: I love this cover! The model is exactly how I pictured how Graham to be and I love how the blue font matches his tie, it all works together very well. A+

Basics: His Pawn was released on May 3rd, 2018 and published by HEA Press. Genre wise His Pawn is contemporary romance and standalone.

Description: That’s what he said when he discovered that, with five months of college left, I was cut off. Young, wickedly handsome, and politically incorrect, he was unlike any man I ever met. And his proposition to cover my tuition in exchange for a semester of “anything goes” was offensive and thrilling.

If you’re wondering if I told him off—if the night ended with me slapping that delicious smirk right off his face—that didn’t happen. Instead, I decided to be practical.

My name is Eleanor Courtney, and I’m the first to admit my mistakes. Agreeing to crawl into bed with the devil in a designer suit might be my biggest ever. Because he said something else to me that night:

“I don’t want to sleep with you, Elle, that would be too easy. I want to possess you.”
And Senator Graham Delaney—well, he always gets exactly what he wants.

*Disclaimer: A small portion of this 85,000 word standalone was previously published as Maya St James.

“You know, you talk about sex so much it makes me question if you’re one of those all talk, lame action situations.”

“May I?” He extends his hand, gesturing for mine. Warily, I place my fingers in his and release a yelp when he pulls it under the table, pressing my palm against his zipper. He closes my fingers, one by one, around the unquestionable—and admittedly very, very impressive—bulge.

Wow. “That’s not hard either,” he informs me in a low voice, “but if you’re doubtful of my ability to make you forget your fucking name, how to walk, how to eat—and everything else but yes, please, and more—it won’t take long for you to get me there.”

“So that’s why you invited me to dinner, huh?” I snatch my fingers back and grab a handful of my dress to ease the electricity under my skin. It doesn’t help, and I’ve got a feeling I’ll be undone for the rest of the night all thanks to what’s hidden under Graham’s zipper. “To screw me? I guess I had you all wrong.”

“If I wanted only to fuck you, Elle, it wouldn’t have mattered where I took you for dinner—or if I fed you at all.” He whips the plate cover off my food. “Hope you like steak.”

Overall thoughts: All I can say is WOW! His Pawn by Emily Snow was my first book that I’ve read for her and just WOW. Snow can write and her alpha males are apparently dirty, dirty, dirty! And by dirty I mean: “Wow! I can’t believe I just read that! Did he really just say that? Is he really doing that? Wow I need a fan” kind of dirty. The story is simple enough, the leading lady is dealing with an issue and the alpha male has a solution to that issue and they fall for each other. Add some age differences and forbidden-ness in the mix and you have a great contemporary romance book.

Elle is trying to finish college on her own terms because her father has decided to cut her off for selfish reasons. But being the independent woman she is, Elle is focused on supporting herself to finish her degree. Meanwhile Graham has a past with her father and not a pretty one; when he sees Elle estranged with her father and in need of help he comes up with a plan to not only help Elle but profit from it too. What could possibly go wrong?

I really enjoyed The Pawn, I liked the forbidden romance and I thought the story was well written even though the trope is overly used in the romance book world, I still enjoyed it. Emily Snow is a fantastic writer and has a great way of putting this wonderful vision of her story in your head as you read. I gave His Pawn four of five shells for my overall review because I thought the ending felt rushed and could of elaborated more, it just didn’t feel finished when the book ended. Other than that His Pawn was a great, steamy read of forbidden romance.
