Review: Control Freak by Brianna Hale

The Cover: I think the cover of Control Freak is gorgeous and sensual, it draws you in as a viewer and it is definitely one of the most steamiest romance covers I’ve ever seen.

Basics: Control Freak was released on June 27th 2019 and is 187 pages long. Genre wise Control Freak belongs to contemporary romance and age gap romance.

Description: Total control. I need it in every aspect of my life. Some would say that makes me an asshole. A freak. But as long as everything’s exactly how I want it, I’m completely flexible. I’m kidding. Okay, I’m not kidding.

Lacey needs someone in her life who’s bigger and scarier than her demons, and she wants that man to be me. Her boss. The Viking in a suit.I hope she understands what she’s getting into. This daddy isn’t going to pat her on the head and tell her she’s a good girl for nothing. Especially not when she’s spinning out of control.

Overall thoughts: Control Freak is a classic Brianna Hale age gap romance book. One of my favorite tropes is age gap romance and Hale is very, very good at writing those romances. Control Freak is the story of Stian and Lacey, a museum director and college student who get paired up together when Stian’s assistant quits. Lacey just got out of rehab for an eating disorder and is trying to move past her difficulties with weight and food and onward to more school in the new couple of months. Please note, Control Freak does talk about an eating disorder, if that an issue for you please know that Brianna Hale writes about this in the most kind and informed way. She did a marvelous job and I truly applaud her for bringing this issue to light in this book.

The main struggle between Stian and Lacey is her eating disorder, however they still have to deal with the fact that she is his boss and she is his assistant; and again their age difference. Stian and Lacey’s desire for one another is scorching hot and you can’t help but root for them to be together in my opinion, they need one another. I think that is one of the underlying tones of Control Freak is the fact that it is okay to ask for help and lean on someone else when you need it most. Control Freak is a romance book but it has beautiful and meaningful undertones to it that I think every reader would relate to and love reading about. A must summer read for 2019!

The Cover: I love the cover of Million Dollar Devil! The black and white with the hint of red works very well together and the cover model’s expression is very much what I imagined for James.

Overall thoughts: Oh my gosh! I loved this book so much! I have been in the WORST book slump ever and Million Dollar Devil just broke it! Katy Evans is one of my favorite romance writers and she just seriously hit this book out of the park. Million Dollar Devil is also available for FREE on Kindle Unlimited so grab for free while you can!

This book focuses on Lizzy and James, two different individuals and a man and woman who are completely different zones. Lizzy is the only child and daughter to Mr. Banks, the owner to one of the biggest men’s fashion companies in the world. Lizzy is smart, beautiful, hard working and has tried everything impossible to please her Father, but since she’s female and working in a men’s fashion company, the odds are significantly stacked against her. When an opportunity comes for Lizzy to make her Father proud and take the reins of the company she jumps to do so, until she can’t find the perfect man for the new campaign she needs.

Enter James: the gorgeous and cocky Youtuber who doesn’t turn down any dare and will literally do anything for money. He’s a bit rough around the edges and lacks manners but Lizzy immediately gets the idea to turn James into the perfect model for her Father’s upcoming campaign. She doesn’t think about how attracted they are to one another or the fact that their different social standing could put everything she’s built with her Father and career at risk. Million Dollar Devil is a great story about a great couple falling for one another despite their social standings which I love this trope when it comes to romance books. What I also loved about Million Dollar Devil is the fact that Lizzy is such an amazing character and person; she basically has dedicated her entire life to her Father and his business (even going to freaking Stanford!) yet she STILL feels like she’s not enough for him. The things she goes through and how meeting and falling for James plays out, it really warmed my heart and is such a great message for anyone out there who gives it their all and still doesn’t feel like they are enough. Katy Evans has such great messages in all of her books but Million Dollar Devil‘s message will definitely stay with me for a long time. Million Dollar Devil is a MUST READ for any contemporary romance lover!

Overall thoughts: Ilsa Madden-Mills is such a gift, I think she has an amazing talent for great storytelling, with kick butt characters you fall in love with and swoon, melt-worthy romance dialogue. Boyfriend Bargain is a contemporary and sports romance book which I really enjoy because they are usually very fun and books that many of us can relate to. That being said, in regards to sports romance focused books football tends to be the sport that I see the most when it comes that genre. I like sports, I played sports growing up and I am drawn to athletes in general; but I despise football. So every time I see a sports romance book that ISN’T football, I’m immediately drawn to that. (Disclaimer: as much as I can’t stand football, some of the BEST sports romance books I have read and pushed through have been centered on football…go figure!)

Zack is the playboy of the hockey team and Sugar just wants to have fun, no love or romance involved. Just fun. She definitely doesn’t want to be with Zack, but fate keeps pulling them together and when they give into the growing heat between them, a connection occurs. However Sugar just wants to focus on having fun, the woman has rules and she wants to stick with them. Unfortunately for her Zack wants more and isn’t willing to let their story end just yet.

Boyfriend Bargain is a great sports romance book, with a fresh take on a love story that usually isn’t seen much in the romance book world: the guy chasing after the girl. I really loved this book and I highly suggest you add it to your bookshelf ASAP!

Excerpt: “We should kiss, just get it out of the way and move on,” I say, sure of the crazy idea as each second passes.

There’s a hitch in Z’s breath, and his eyes go straight to my lips. “Works for me.”

“But just one. None of that fancy tongue work.”

“Afraid of falling in love with me?” He grins.

Basics: The Reality of Wright and Wrong was released on March 12th, self published by Leddy Harper and is 309 pages long. Genre wise The Reality of Wright and Wrong belongs to contemporary romance.

Overall thoughts: The Reality of Wright and Wrong is definitely a home run for Leddy Harper. I really loved this book and I especially enjoyed the pacing. With every chapter I finished there was something exciting and new that was added to the story and I really enjoyed that. I also love a bit of a trainwreck kind of plot too which is essentially what happens in The Reality of Wright and Wrong. Mercy is head over heels for his fiance and when she flies into town to surprise him, it doesn’t end up well.

Completely heartbroken to find her soon to be husband hanging all over another woman, she leaves without a word even going so far to leave her ring behind too. While trying to process what she just saw and her future, she runs into and I mean literally runs into the handsome, tatted and mysterious Brogan. They immediately hit it off right away and their story just takes off.

The Reality of Wright and Wrong is one of those books where you feel like you don’t know what you’re getting into, but once you get hooked, you are HOOKED. It is a great contemporary romance read!

Overall thoughts: International Player was a great contemporary romance read with a fun friends to lovers focus. I tend to enjoy the friends to lovers trope more in contemporary romance books because it adds so means so much more when the two characters end up together. Great characters, intense chemistry that keeps you enthralled with the story and overall a great romance read!

Excerpt: In, two, three, out, two. Shit. I tried again. In, two, three, out, two, three. It wasn’t helping. My heart was hammering against my chest, my palms were sweaty, and images of hundreds and hundreds of faces staring at me flashed into my head.

I ignored the knock on my office door. I was too concerned about what was happening to me. Was it possible to have a heart attack at twenty-eight?

“Truly,” a familiar, male voice called.

I couldn’t look up. Couldn’t even open my eyes. Warm hands covered my knees and body heat radiated in front of me. “Are you okay? Take a breath.” What was Noah doing here?

I nodded, still counting my breath. As if he was familiar with the technique, he began counting along with me. “Out, two, three. In, two, three. Out, two, three.”

His voice was calming. The counting hadn’t worked when I’d done it alone, but hearing him counting too helped me settle into a rhythm.

Eventually, his hands slid from my knees, and I sat up and opened my eyes, right into his.

“Are you okay?” he asked, his brow furrowed. I was such an idiot. A mess. And this was why Noah and I had only ever been friends. He was used to seeing me in no makeup with a smear of kung pao chicken on my face. And now I was panicking about a meeting that he would think nothing of. Yes, Noah only ever saw me at my absolute worst.

“What are you doing here?” I asked. I didn’t want him to see me like this.

“Do you want some water?” He stood and poured me a glass of sparkling water from the bottle on my desk.

“Thanks.” I took a sip and sat back in my chair.

“I came to talk to you. Apologize if I seemed harsh last night. I’m sorry if I made this worse, Truly.”

I cleared my throat. “I’m fine. Just a little . . .” I watched as he slid into the chair opposite my desk, his long legs unfurling in front of him. “I just have a lot to do.”

He nodded, steepling his fingers. “And I’m here to help.”

Release Blitz & Review: Meet Cute by Helena Hunting

The Cover: The Meet Cute cover is bright, very eye catching and I adore it. Yellow is such a happy color and I think it’s a great book cover that I definitely want my shelf soon!

Basics: Meet Cute was released on April 9th 2019 and is 384 pages long. Genre wise Meet Cute belongs to contemporary romance.

Description: Talk about an embarrassing introduction. On her first day of law school, Kailyn ran – quite literally – into the actor she crushed on as a teenager, ending with him sprawled on top of her. Mortified to discover the Daxton Hughes was also a student in her class, her embarrassment over their meet-cute quickly turned into a friendship she never expected. Of course, she never saw his betrayal coming either…

Now, eight years later, Dax is in her office asking for legal advice. Despite her anger, Kailyn can’t help feeling sorry for the devastated man who just became sole guardian to his thirteen-year-old sister. But when her boss gets wind of Kailyn’s new celebrity client, there’s even more at stake than Dax’s custody issues: if she gets Dax to work at their firm, she’ll be promoted to partner.

Overall thoughts: Meet Cute was such a fun and lovely romance book! I thought it was quirky and interesting with that side of ‘oh my gosh this situation is SO awkward but I can’t put this book down!’ I loved it! Helena Hunting is laugh out loud funny and her writing is something I find very relatable.

Dax and Kailyn were a great couple to fall in love with and root for. They had a bumpy road and I really enjoyed reading how they overcame those bumps. I also find their rivalry super entertaining, how they constantly wanted to win and be better over the other is just so relatable. I think everyone at some point in their lives has someone like that, maybe they don’t fall in love with that person but still…that concept of Dax and Kailyn’s relationship really intrigued me. Not to mention their chemistry leaped off the pages!

Meet Cute will definitely one of my favorite contemporary romance books of the year and Helena Hunting should be very proud, this book knocked it out of the park!

Basics: Before We Fell was released on April 9th 2019 and is a contemporary standalone romance.

Description: For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. The horror that rocked my small town last winter also brought Noah Wilkes into my life. The first almost broke all of us, but the second changed everything.

Overall thoughts: Stacey Lynn is the Queen of pulling all my heartstrings! Before We Fell is a sweet contemporary romance about two people coming together after a heartbreaking situation. This type of story about two people connecting after tragedy really is just one of my favorite love stories and Lynn writes a brilliant one.

Simple and effortless Before We Fell is a great contemporary romance read.

Review: The Benefits of Bad Decisions by Lisa Suzanne

unnamed (9) The Cover: I think the cover of The Benefits of Bad Decisions is gorgeous! It is probably my favorite cover of any of Lisa’s books and I just think it’s gorgeous!

Basics: The Benefits of Bad Decisions was released on April 1st 2019 and is 405 pages long. Genre wise The Benefits of Bad Decisions belongs to drama and contemporary romance.

Description: After a bad decision lands me a role on a reality show, I expect it to be my big break as a TV star. Despite getting kicked off the first night, I land on my feet again when a talent agent who saw the show offers me an audition as back-up dancer for a popular rock band.

Knowing this could be my stepping stone is exciting, but the real thrill is watching Brody bang on his drums every night. It’s a bad idea for a dancer to hook up with a band member, but after he kisses me, I can’t stay away.

Facing the consequences was inevitable, and it only takes one scandalous mistake from my past to cause our complete destruction. Bad decision or not, I always manage to come out on top… until I don’t.

Overall thoughts: The Benefits of Bad Decisions completely blew me away! Lisa Suzanne had so many twists and turns that my head was spinning! The beginning of the book was very hot and heavy, another aspect that completely caught me off guard. I don’t mind when books start off like that, but it definitely surprised me! The Benefits of Bad Decisions started off with a bang, continued to fizzle and pop halfway through and ended with a bang. I really enjoyed the flow of this book!

Zoey and Brody are definitely a sexy couple, with fantastic chemistry that leaps off the pages and leaves you wishing you had a connection like theirs. I think the biggest standout of the entire body was the major plot twist that directly occured between Zoey and Brody, no spoilers but holy freaking cannoli that was DRAMATIC. But who does love a good contemporary romance book with a touch of drama?! All in all another fantastic book by Lisa Suzanne!

The Cover: The Dragon of New Orleans cover is GORGEOUS! It’s very aesthetically pleasing, the male model, the colors, the background, the dragon and font work all together very well. I love this cover and I would really love to have it on my bookshelf soon!

Basics: The Dragon of New Orleans was released on March 5th, 2019 and is 350 pages long. Genre wise The Dragon of New Orleans belongs to paranormal romance, fantasy, romance and magic.

Description: New Orleans: city of intrigue, supernatural secrets, and one enigmatic dragon. Overall thoughts: I am a huge fan of paranormal romance and anything that deals with mythic creatures, ESPECIALLY dragons. So when I saw the blurb for The Dragon of New Orleans I was immediately intrigued/wanted to read it and I was NOT disappointed! The Dragon of New Orleans tells the story of Gabriel, a paranormal being who was cursed by a voodoo Queen to do his bidding. Oh and if you haven’t already realized by the title…he’s also a dragon. Enter the heroine of this book Raven, a woman who sadly has cancer and has strong physic abilities. What a combo right?

Gabriel finds and senses Raven and offers to help her with her cancer if she comes and works for him. They come together to help solve each other’s problems and I was immediately enthralled with their story and intensity for one another from start to finish. Gabriel and Raven’s chemistry crackles right off the pages and straight into your heart, they are definitely one of those couples that I adore to read about. The story, the settling and backstory of being New Orleans plus the love that Gabriel and Raven have for one another really made me enjoy this book and I’m so excited for the rest of the series!

The Cover: As always I think Katy Evans’ book covers are gorgeous but I’m not a huge fan of Boss’ cover to honest. I don’t know it’s just not my style I guess.

Basics: Boss was released on March 1st 2018, published by Harlequin Desire and is 224 pages long. Genre wise Boss belongs to contemporary romance.

Overall thoughts: No matter what Katy Evans decides to write about I am always going to stop what I’m doing and read it, because each and every book she creates is pure magic. Boss tells the story of Chicago native Alexandra Croft: a successful worker at Cupid’s Arrow, a popular dating app. She is very hard working and clearly is heavily invested in her work, an attribute I find very attractive in regards to a leading lady of any book regardless of genre. However Alexandra runs into trouble when the sexy, irritating, trust fund son of the owner of Cupid’s Arrow, Kit steps into leading the company.

The chemistry between Alexandra and Kit snaps and sizzles, but Alexandra is trying to focus on her career and isn’t trying to jump into bed with the new owner of her company. Trying to ignore the attraction between them Alexandra cannot deny her growing infatuation and feelings for Kit even when he irritates her most. Boss is a perfect office romance story and is one of Katy Evans classic swoon worthy, romance books. Another great addition to Evans growing list of romance novels!
