ARC Review & Release Blitz: Escort by Skye Warren

AN.jpg

The Cover: I love the cover! As always I wish we could see the cover model’s face but the shirt open with the relaxed body posture plus pink, bright print is great. I find it very eye catching and very escort-like and if that isn’t a thing, I just made it into one! A+

Basics: Escort was released on March 20th, 2018, published by CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform and is 258 pages long. Genre wise Escort belongs to contemporary romance.

Description: There is no shame in pleasure. And no love in business.
I have a blind date tonight, and I know with 100% certainty that I’m getting lucky. There shouldn’t be any surprises, not for one as jaded as me, but when I walk into the penthouse suite of L’Etoile, everything changes.

1) For one thing, Bea is heartstoppingly gorgeous. Pale green eyes and endless freckles. Curves I want to spend all night exploring, as if her body was made for me.

2) Her innocence makes me want to use my entire inventory of bedroom tricks on her and then invent a few more.

3) Except that . . . she’s a virgin.

I can initiate her into the world of desire without letting her get attached, can’t I? A few hours of tutoring, and at the end of the night a small fortune will be deposited into my bank account.Yes, you read that right. There are many words for what I do. After all, mine is the oldest profession. I’m an escort, which means this date is nothing more than a mutually enjoyable transaction. But once I realize one night with her won’t be enough, I’m the one who’s screwed.Escort.jpgOverall thoughts: I have never read a Skye Warren book before, that being said…I can’t believe I haven’t read anything by Skye Warren before because she is an amazing writer! I adored Escort! It was diverse, it was special and it definitely was very emotional at times. I really enjoyed that the point of view was from Hugo, it’s very rare in the romance book world that we get point of view’s from men but I really enjoy it.

Hugo is the most sought out man in the city, he’s rich, he’s powerful and he knows exactly what to say and do to make a woman feel good. But everyone has an ulterior motive during some point of their lives and Hugo is no different. When he meets with a new client Beatrix, he doesn’t expect what she asks of him. Taking someone’s virtue isn’t exactly what people make appointments for either. Hugo focus suddenly shifts to the beguiling and beautiful Beatrix and why she hired him for such a thing.

All of a sudden Hugo seems to start falling for his client, forgetting the real reason he wanted to be her Escort in the first place. Hugo and Bea are a fantastic couple, their chemistry leaps off the pages and is undeniably, I love reading about them. Not only they do make a sexy match for one another, but their emotional backgrounds and stories touched and warmed my heart.

I think I love Escort so much because not only is the book’s point of view male centered (which again is rare in the romance book world) but also because Hugo is different. He speaks different languages, his backstory is different and most of all he’s Moroccan. I am a firm believer in diversity and I really appreciate what Skye Warren did with Hugo. Escort will be one of my top reads of 2018 and if you love a feel good romance about two broken people coming together to be happy, Escort is for you!

ARC Review & Excerpt: Sinner by Sierra Simone

SSSinnerBookCover5x8_HIGH
The Cover: This is cover is amazing, it’s intimate, beyond sexual and so forbidden. Like we shouldn’t be looking at the model, right? Pardon the pun but looking at the cover makes me feel like I’m sinning.

Basics: Sinner was released on March 15th 2018 and is 366 pages long. Genre wise Sinner belongs to contemporary romance, age gap romance and forbidden romance.

Description: I’m not a good man, and I’ve never pretended to be.  I don’t believe in goodness or God or any happy ending that isn’t paid for in advance.

What do I believe in?  Money. Sex. Macallan 18.
They have words for men like me—playboy.  Womanizer. Skirt chaser.

My brother used to be a priest, and he only has one word for me.
Sinner.
29196186_2007052359555863_2338116119325310976_n.png
Excerpt:  “Zenny,” I mumble against her lips, some valiant part of me recognizing that this is far, far beyond the kiss she asked for, and also recognizing that I’m going to come all over the inside of my Hugo Boss suit pants if she keeps it up.  Even through the clothes, I can feel her heat, her shameless rolls hinting at where she goes soft and wet between her legs.

Fuck, I want to see it.  I want to see her pussy. It’s suddenly all I can think about, all I can want or crave, just one glimpse, just a peek.

“I want to see your cunt,” I say hoarsely, lifting my head.

“My…cunt?”  She says the word like she’s never said it out loud before.

“Yeah.”  My voice is so ragged right now, so desperate, and fuck, I’ve never felt this frantic before.  Like I’ll actually combust if I don’t get this one thing, this one small sight of her secret place.

She lets out a shaky breath, her hand dropping from my lapel to her skirt, which she slowly rucks up to her waist as I devour her lips once more, as I bury my face in her neck and kiss every sliver of skin exposed above her collar.  I bite at her ear, at her jaw, my hand finding hers as it pulls her skirt up, so that I’m helping her do it, that we’re doing it together, this forbidden act, this forbidden revelation.

Her forbidden body.  That word, forbidden, spikes through my mind, bringing with it equal spikes of lust and fear.  Because yes, it’s fucking hot that I shouldn’t be kissing her, I shouldn’t be begging to see her most secret place, my hand shouldn’t be covering hers as it slides up her thigh—but it’s also bad.  Bad even for Sean Bell.

Bad, bad, bad.
Sinner.jpg
Overall thoughts: Sinner is another gift that Sierra Simone has given us! This book was much lighter in comparison to Simone’s other works (I’m still reeling from The New Camelot trilogy to be honest!) but I really loved it. Sean is the classical older bad boy that every romance reader wants and dreams about but I really enjoyed him because one he is absolutely hilarious and two, very relatable. Faith is a very tricky thing and I think everyone tends to struggle with their own faith at some point in their lives. So what would happen if you brought someone who didn’t believe in a God with someone who does believe in God and wants to devote their life to that God? The Nun and the Sinner.

Zenny is a college study who is solely focused on her goals: becoming a nun and helping others, whereas Sean is an older playboy billionaire dealing with his mother dying of cancer and this insane attraction for someone much, MUCH younger than him. But of course there are complications: Sean shares a small past with her, Zenny is his best friend’s little sister, the age difference and most of all…Zenny is about to become a nun.

The story of the Nun and the Sinner just got a bit more complicated. Zenny and Sean are a wonderful couple and their intimacy and chemistry leaps off the pages as you read. Simone has a such a way of words that I’m either blushing scarlet or re-reading the sentence several times because it was that beautiful and powerful. Sinner is a standalone (part of The Priest series) but I honestly wish there were several more books about Sean and Zenny. One of my favorite reads of 2018 so far!

Review: A Court Of Mist And Fury by Sarah J. Maas

fury The Cover: I adore this cover and honestly it’s my favorite cover of this series. Feyre looks strong and powerful and I don’t even care that I can’t see her face because she looks THAT fierce.

Basics: A Court Of Mist And Fury was released on May 3rd, 2016, published by Bloomsbury USA and is 626 pages long. Genre wise A Court Of Mist and Fury belongs to belongs to Young Adult, Fantasy, Fiction and Romance.

Description: Feyre survived Amarantha’s clutches to return to the Spring Court–but at a steep cost. Though she now has the powers of the High Fae, her heart remains human, and it can’t forget the terrible deeds she performed to save Tamlin’s people.

Nor has Feyre forgotten her bargain with Rhysand, High Lord of the feared Night Court. As Feyre navigates its dark web of politics, passion, and dazzling power, a greater evil looms–and she might be key to stopping it. But only if she can harness her harrowing gifts, heal her fractured soul, and decide how she wishes to shape her future–and the future of a world cleaved in two.
A Court of Mist & Fury.jpg
Overall thoughts: What a ride A Court Of Mist and Fury was! I haven’t read a book this long since Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and I don’t regret any of it. Sarah J. Maas is one of the best authors of all time and this book is just proof of the magic she possesses. Last time we left Feyre she was back in the Spring Court experiencing a new life, literally. Feyre has been turned into an immortal fae, destined to live forever; she may be fae now but there is something inside her now, something that is just pulsating to get out. On top of getting used to her new life and body, the Spring Court is rebuilding and Tamlin isn’t quite the Tamlin she remembered. What is exactly Feyre’s role in Spring Court and how does she fit in there? That’s only the beginning of her problems.

We thought with the demise of the wretched Amarantha that Phythian would finally be at peace, along Feyre was reunited with her true, love. She thought that happily ever after wasn’t too far from the horizon. But Feyre is still plagued with what happened under the Mountain and can’t help notice the distance between her and Tamlin. Again…everything isn’t always what it seems. When everything seems hopeless for Feyre, the person to comes to her rescue is Rhysand of all people, the High Lord of the Night Court. Feyre and company may of escaped from Under the Mountain and broke the curse on Phythian but the trouble for Feyre and company are only the beginning.

A Court of Mist and Fury is one of the best books I have ever read and I highly suggest reading it immediately or adding to your to read list. Another reason I love this book so much that I can guarantee you that you will be able to relate to one of these characters and their experiences, good or bad. As a reader being able to relate to a character personally for me, makes me love the book even more and I’m sure the same could be said for you! My review of the third book in this series, A Court Of Wings and Ruin will be out soon!

ARC Review, Excerpt & Blog Tour: White Knight by CD Reiss

White Knight an all-new romantic standalone from New York Times bestselling author CD Reiss is available NOW!
white-knight-cover-FULL.jpg
The Cover: I love the cover of White Knight! But I wished it invoked more of Chris’ ‘white knight’ spirit to be honest. But the suited model does look nice. B+

Basics: White Knight was released on March 6th 2018, published by Flip City Media Inc and is 234 pages long. Genre wise White Knight belongs to contemporary romance.

Description: Catherine’s long-lost love is found.
Catherine Barrington is a rich girl. Chris Cartwright is a poor boy.

He left her to make something of himself. A man she could be proud of. A man she could bring home to her parents. A man she could marry.
On the trading floor he became the man he knew he could be. Now, it’s time to return.
Rich girl. Poor boy.
She didn’t care about his money, but he didn’t believe her. Soon after he left, all the money was gone.

Her life is hell.
Now he’s back, and he’s different. Pristine. Gorgeous. Rich.
Rich boy. Poor girl.
Money was never the barrier, until now.

Excerpt: I crossed the train tracks, looking both ways as if the freight ran on a thoroughfare. It was a few steps to the rows of mobile homes that defined that side of Barrington.

The playground was in a little clearing just west of the center of the trailers. My fingertips were cold, but the rest of my body thrummed and pulsed so hard that I made my own heat. I told myself I didn’t know what to expect from this meeting, but if I didn’t know what to expect, I knew what to hope, and they were pretty much the same thing.

“Catherine!” Chris wasn’t loud, but the excitement in his voice made him sound as if he were shouting.

“Chris?” I spun around, looking for him in the darkness.

And on a three-quarter turn, he crashed into me, all lips and hands, digging his fingertips into the muscles of my back as he pulled me close. I tasted the minty toothpaste in his mouth and thought he brushed his teeth for me. He kissed me as if he would never kiss me again. He kissed me as if this was the last kiss he would ever have in his life. As if he wanted to eat me alive. I’d given over my freedom and my choice to this thing with him, to this moment, to this stupid set of choices that would ruin me forever. As surely as the sun would rise, I was the designer of my own destruction.

I wanted to be destroyed by that kiss.

When Chris took my hand, I imagined I could feel the blood pulsing through the veins, the cells in his skin. I imagined that when my nerve endings vibrated at his touch, they connected to his somehow.

Everything felt new. I was discovering that my body had routes between one place and another that I never knew existed. I never knew that when a man touched my hand or kissed my nipples, I could feel it between my legs.

There was a click behind the tree line, and he stopped kissing me with a jerk. We froze long enough for him to smile.
WhiteKnight-Teaser5-AN.jpg
Overall thoughts: White Knight was the perfect combination of childhood romance and second chance romance. Chris and Catherine aren’t exactly the modern day Romeo and Juliet but they come pretty close. Catherine is from a wealthy family and Chris is so immediately their families don’t mesh well. But when it comes to loving someone everything else becomes white noise really and Chris and Catherine couldn’t care about their status or how much money their families make.

Life sadly doesn’t always work out the way we want it and that is especially the case for Catherine and Chris when not only do they separate from each other for a long time, but their roles become reversed. I adore second chance romance because when it comes to love, I believe everyone deserves a second chance if that love is sincere and true. Catherine and Chris have that kind of love and I really enjoyed reading their story from falling in love with one another as kids, the angst and hurt of their separation and the joy and pure heart when they reunite again. White Knight in my opinion is one of CD Reiss’ best books and it will take me awhile to get over Catherine and Chris’ epic romance.

About the Author: CD Reiss is a New York Times bestseller. She still has to chop wood and carry water, which was buried in the fine print. Her lawyer is working it out with God but in the meantime, if you call and she doesn’t pick up she’s at the well hauling buckets. Born in New York City, she moved to Hollywood, California to get her master’s degree in screenwriting from USC. In case you want to know, that went nowhere but it did give her a big enough ego to write novels.

She’s frequently referred to as the Shakespeare of Smut which is flattering but hasn’t ever gotten her out of chopping that cord of wood. If you meet her in person, you should call her Christine.

Review: Real by Katy Evans

First of all, Happy Birthday Katy! You are my favorite author and such a sweet, wonderful and kind person. Your books and magical and I cannot thank you for the magical stories and characters that you have shared with the world that have touched my heart so much. I hope you have a fantastic day and I hope you know how much your writing means to me. Before I get into the giveaway or any of this review, I just wanted to explain why this book is so special to me.

I have suffered from depression and anxiety my entire life and when I was fifteen and fourteen I tried to kill myself. I was bullied from both my peers and adults, I was told to go end my life and that I didn’t matter. But I survived that part of my life and even when I tried to end myself, I didn’t die and so…I thought I would try to keep living. Although it wasn’t easy, I kept pushing through even though things still remained difficult I keep going. However some other events occurred and by the time I was eighteen, I thought I was crazy. I went throughout college and the entire time I thought I was losing my dang mind! My  high school sweetheart and I finally got married when I was twenty one and I moved from home for the first time. Things escalated after that; I was constantly angry and anxious, but especially angry. It got to the point where my husband sat me down, told me he loved me no matter what but I needed to figure things out.

I went to the doctor’s office, got tested and was diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. The entire time in college I had ringing in my ears, unbearable and constant anxiety, nightmares and the uncomfortable paranoia of being in a crowded room. I wasn’t crazy after all, I had PTSD. Things got better after that, I decided to get help and six years later I am healing. I will always have those scars and I will probably have PTSD for the rest of my life, but I am healing slowly but surely healing. I am not afraid to talk about this or the darkness that looms over me because I want to help others. Reading about Remington touched my heart and soul because honestly like Remy, I didn’t think anyone would love me like this. Yet my husband and I have been together for ten years, and to this day I still ask if he loves me even though I’m like this. Which makes him shake his head and laugh because he has always loved me, even on my bad days when I feel triggered the most or when I’m so depressed I can hardly move.  I’ve realized that love conquers all and anything which is especially apparent in Real and in my life.

Mental health isn’t talked about much and some people even refuse to talk about it at all which is wrong; mental health needs to be taken seriously and I hope someday people can be open about it because talking about it can save lives. It’s why I talk about it and it’s why I share my story so openly. Reading Real and finding Remington Tate was one of the best days of my life and I love this book, story and characters so much. Katy if you’re reading this thank you from the bottom of my heart for using your platform to write about mental health. Thank you.

Thank you so much for reading all of this and I hope you check out Remy and fall in love with him as much as I did!
Happy Birthday Katy! This is for you!

real.jpg

The Cover: I love this cover so much! I wish that there was a face to the model BUT I do like the fact that we can imagine our own Remington and what he would look like. I like the mystery. A+

Basics: Real was released on May 28th 2013, published by Gallery Books and is 269 pages long. Genre wise Real belongs to contemporary romance.

Description: Remington Tate has a bad-boy rep in and out of the ring, a granite-hard body, and a raw, animal power that sends his female fans into a frenzy. But from the moment their eyes lock, the only woman he wants is Brooke Dumas. His desire is pure, all-consuming, and REAL.

Hired to keep his perfect body working like a machine, Brooke finally has the lucrative sports therapy job she’s been dreaming of. But as she tours the dangerous underground fighting circuit with Remy and his team, Brooke’s own body becomes alive with the most primal of hungers. If what happens between Brooke and Remy is ever as light as a flirtation, it quickly becomes an erotic obsession for them both, and promises so much more.

But their white-hot lust has a dark side—and when Remy’s deepest secret comes to light and Brooke’s familial duties demand action, will the pair be able to hang on, or will everything that once seemed so real suddenly fade away like an illusion?
Real.jpg

Overall thoughts:Real is a romance classic! The brooding hero, the curious heroine and the sparks that fly between them and bring them together. But Remy is no prince and Brooke has no idea what she’s getting into when it comes to underground fighting world. Not only is she suddenly knocked off her feet by the mysterious, sexy and powerful Remington Tate, she is given an offer she can’t refuse. Brooke is an amazing heroine, she’s hard working, strong and stitched together with a tenacity that just makes you want to cheer her on.

She has no idea what is going on in Remy’s head or why one minute he wants her, the next he’s pushing her away. But you can’t find an indestructible force and once your caught in a riptide, there’s really nothing you can do but ride the waves.  Remy and Brooke have undeniable chemistry that literally sent shock waves through me as I read their story and I adore them so much. They are such a great couple to read and swoon over and their story is an important one that I believe every romance lover and reader should read. This was my first Katy Evans book and she will have a friend and fan of me for the rest of my life. I HIGHLY suggest you read Real and trust me, you’ll fall hard for Remy just as much as I did!

ARC Review: Home Run King by Stella

HomeRunKing_ecover
The Cover: I think the cover of Home Run King is very simplistic, actually I think it is TOO simplistic honestly.

Basics:Home Run King was released on February 21st 2018. Genre wise Home Run King belongs to contemporary romance and sports romance.

Description: My life was what country songs are made of: my Granny died, my girlfriend broke up with me, I knocked up her cousin, and I was inducted into the Major League Hall of Fame. Yup…just like every country song I’ve ever heard.

But let me start over…my name is Gage Nix. That’s all you need to know.

Actually, there’s a lot more to Gage than meets the eye. My name’s Katie Crisp, and I had a front row seat and the inside scoop. In a moment of grief and desperation, I allowed the Home Run King to…well, hit a home run on my diamond. He not only knocked it out of the park, but he also knocked me up.

Raising two babies—the one I was carrying, and Gage—wasn’t what I signed up for. But he gave me no choice. I only wish I hadn’t waited until the end of the season to see that he was my MVP. Oh, and the only hall of fame he’s ever been inducted into is his own.
Home Run King.jpg
Overall thoughts: Yay for a sports romance book that isn’t football and for versatility! Home Run King is a funny, romantic, sporty romance book that will keep your attention because Katie and Gage’s relationship isn’t normal and the way they started together is beautiful. It’s also a strange one because they weren’t exactly together and boom! They become pregnant so to me that’s a story that I want to keep reading because I want to know how it unfolds.

Gage is one of those guys that are hilarious and irritating at the same time but has a sweet side to him that just makes you wish you were in Katie’s shoes. Katie has her own struggles but she maintains as a kick butt heroine with a fierce determination that will automatically you either relate to or like her. I really loved Home Run King and it’s wonderful story but I had one small issue. They are clearly physical and intimate with one another throughout the book but I didn’t think there was written content for that. But besides I was very happy with this book and I suggest you check it out if you love baseball and romance together!

Review: A Court Of Thorns And Roses by Sarah J. Maas

Hello friends! It’s been awhile since I’ve reviewed anything but ARC’s right? I’ve been having the winter blues and missing my Dad lately so I’ve been re-reading a lot of my favorite books to help me feel better. AND I will be attending Apollycon in March and will be meeting the FABULOUS legend, Sarah J. Maas! She is the New York Times best selling author of The Throne Of Glass series and my favorite Young Adult series EVER, the amazing A Court of Thorns and Roses series. Before I became a book blogger and really dived into the romance book world, I was a HUGE reader of Young Adult books. However in 2015 I read two books that seriously killed my love for Young Adult, they upset me so much that I just went cold turkey and stopped reading Young Adult books, completely. So I stopped reading Young Adult books and jumped into the romance book world and haven’t looked back sine. I kept trying to read Young Adult books in between my romance books but nothing made me want to keep reading Young Adult books, I just kept getting disappointed repeatedly. It was almost if those two books that made me stop reading Young Adult books cursed me from reading more Young Adult books! Until I stumbled upon A Court of Thorns and Roses. In July 2017 I was waiting for my husband to come home from deployment and I was getting more and more upset because he kept getting delayed. I went to Target to look for a new book to keep my mind off things and there it was on the shelf, this beautiful cover of a woman surrounded by thorns caught my eye. Twenty four hours later and I was hooked. I immediately brought the rest of the series on my kindle and I’m pretty sure I hardly slept the next week reading this series. A Court of Thorns and Roses blew me away and awakened my love for Young Adult books again. To be honest, this book and the rest of the series could be read as a Young Adult series or just a regular fiction/fantasy/romance book, it’s written THAT well. I love this book and series, Sarah J. Maas is a true gift to this crazy world we live in and I just wanted to share that small backstory before starting this review. Enjoy!

The Cover: They say don’t judge a book by it’s cover but honestly, I had NO IDEA what this book was about and I picked it up because of it’s eye catching beautiful cover. I also love how it reflects the main character, Feyre’s attitude. A+

Basics: A Court Of Thorns And Roses was released on May 5th, 2015, published by  Bloomsbury USA and is 432 pages long. Genre wise A Court Of Thorns and Roses belongs to Young Adult, Fantasy, Fiction and Romance.

Description: When nineteen-year-old huntress Feyre kills a wolf in the woods, a beast-like creature arrives to demand retribution for it. Dragged to a treacherous magical land she only knows about from legends, Feyre discovers that her captor is not an animal, but Tamlin–one of the lethal, immortal faeries who once ruled their world.

As she dwells on his estate, her feelings for Tamlin transform from icy hostility into a fiery passion that burns through every lie and warning she’s been told about the beautiful, dangerous world of the Fae. But an ancient, wicked shadow over the faerie lands is growing, and Feyre must find a way to stop it . . . or doom Tamlin–and his world–forever.

Overall thoughts:  I love this book, there are really no words to express or convey how much I loved and adored this book and the rest of the series. A Court Of Thorns and Roses is a beautiful painting of emotions, watercolor mixed with the best story lines and characters in all of Young Adult, Fiction, Fantasy and Romance genre history. PERIOD.  Feyre is one of those rare heroines that can both appeal to young adults AND adult readers. She is fierce, strong and can be looked up to by anyone. Feyre is a huntress that is trying to take care of her family when suddenly her entire life changes. She is forced to leave her sisters and father and is taken to the Fae world. Little does she know that not everything is what it seems and she is there for a reason.

The world of A Court Of Thorns And Roses is a magical, fantastic journey for anyone that wants to escape the harsh realities of our world. There are lessons that I feel like everyone needs to learn from this book, lessons that anyone could relate to and learn from. Another reason I love A Court Of Thorns And Roses so much because its a page turner, from the moment you start the book you want to know what’s going on or what’s going to happen next. It was a book I couldn’t put down and a book I finished within a day.

It has been a long time since I’ve fallen in love with a book and it’s series like this so much (which is something very hard to do mind you!) and I sincerely hope you will check out A Court Of Thorns And Roses and the rest of this series. I will be posting my review of the second book, A Court Of Mist and Fury soon!

Favorite Quotes: “I love you, thorns and all.”  -Tamlin

“Be glad of your human heart, Feyre. Pity those who don’t feel anything at all.” -Rhysand

Review: Overall Review of January Books 2018

Can you freaking BELIEVE that January is basically over? Like….already? It’s over! I mean doesn’t it feel like January 7th or something? Where did the time go? To be honest I didn’t read as much as I wanted to this month but the books I did read were pretty good!
january review.png
I had the opportunity to read and review three ARC’S this month. All three books were very different and I enjoyed all of them. First up was Prince Charming by CD Reiss, a book about an FBI agent falling in love with a hacker and it was the surprise book of the month for me.  There is something about couples that aren’t supposed to be together, that forbidden aspect of their relationship is very attractive to me and spices up the story and makes me want to keep reading till I finish the book. I high recommend Prince Charming by CD Reiss and if you aren’t sold on it yet, please check out my review with all the buy links here <—

My second ARC of January was Fake Wife by Stacey Lynn. There are tons of tropes in the romance book world and being in a fake relationship/marriage but eventually falling for each other is a huge one for the romance book world. When it’s done right and written well it works, but not always and I adore Stacey Lynn but I was worried Fake Wife wouldn’t deliver. But I was wrong and Fake Wife was well written with some pleasant surprises and I thought it was great read. If you’re interested in reading and buying Fake Wife, please check out my review with all the buy links here <—

My third ARC for January was Midnight Blue by LJ Shen. She is one of the best writers in the romance book world hands down, but man do her male characters drive me up the dang wall! BUT LJ Shen is a master storyteller and I was able to get over my annoyance with Alex freaking Winslow. Midnight Blue is a story about an ordinary girl dealing with a life long tragedy hired to deal with the hot mess rocker that is Alex Winslow. What could go wrong and what could go right? Check out my review and the buy links for Midnight Blue here <—-

And as to other books I’ve been reading this month? To be honest I’ve been doing a lot of re-reading of books I’ve read before! I’m currently re-reading A Court of Thorns and Roses series by Sarah J. Maas so I can properly write reviews for them. I’ve also been been re-reading Priest by Sierra Simone since the the sequel Sinner will be out in March. But the one book that was new that came out this month that I want to talk about is Fire In His Fury by Ruby Dixon.
fire.jpg
Let’s talk about dragons shall we? First of all, I don’t know about you but I all about paranormal, sci-fi and especially post apocalyptic books, add romance to those genres and I am SOLD. Ruby Dixon is the QUEEN of everything sci-fi, she stole my heart with Ice Planet Barbarians series but she completely owned my heart when she came out with a series about DRAGONS. I am a huge nerd, I love fiction and fantasy and her Fireblood Dragon romance books just blow me away. There are four books total in the series so far and Fire in His Fury just came out a few weeks ago. I loved it of course and honestly I wish Ruby Dixon would ditch the Barbarians and just focus on her dragons I am that hooked! Anyway, I haven’t written reviews on this series but I might soon! Here is a blurb for the first book and the link to Ruby’s website!

Fire In His Blood: Years ago, the skies ripped open and the world was destroyed in fire and ash. Dragons – once creatures of legend – are the enemy. Vicious and unpredictable, they rule the skies of the ruined cities, forcing humanity to huddle behind barricades for safety.

Claudia’s a survivor. She scrapes by as best as she can in a hard, dangerous world. When she runs afoul of the law, she’s left as bait in dragon territory. She only has one chance to survive – to somehow ‘tame’ a dragon and get it to obey her.

Except the dragon that finds her is as wild and brutal as any other…and he’s not interested in obeying. What he is interested in is a mate.

That’s all I have for January folks! I’m hoping to read and review more in February and to also post some reviews of my favorite re-reads and of course some Kindle Unlimited books! I hope you enjoyed this review and you should definitely check out these books!  Thanks for reading! 🙂

Blog Tour & ARC Review: Midnight Blue by LJ Shen

LJSMidnightBlueBookCover6x9_MEDIUM.jpg
The Cover: I think the cover is very attractive and the font is nice but it literally has no connection to the story or the characters. I mean you could say it was Alex but meh, really underwhelming for me. I would just like to see a book cover that connects to it’s story better. B+

Basics: Midnight Blue was released on January 16th 2018 and is 338 pages long. Genre wise Midnight Blue belongs to contemporary romance.

Description:  It should have been easy. I needed the money. He needed a babysitter to keep him from snorting himself to death.

I was cherry-picked especially for him. Responsible. Optimistic. Warm. Innocent.
The worst part is that I should have known better.

Alex Winslow. British rock star. Serial heartbreaker. Casanova with whiskey eyes.

“Don’t get near the devil in a leather jacket. He’ll chew you up and spit you out.”

Sounds familiar? That’s because it was a headline in a tabloid the second time he got arrested.

Guess what? I didn’t listen. I signed the contract. World tour. Three months. Four Continents. One hundred shows.

My name is Indigo Bellamy, and I sold my soul to a tattooed god. Problem was, my soul wasn’t enough for Alex Winslow. He ended up taking my body, too.

Then he took my heart. Then he took my all.MidnightBlue-AN.jpg

Excerpt: Nat’s words came back and haunted me like a bad haircut from the eighties. An irrational need to check the goods took over me. It wasn’t like he minded. According to the rumors, his dick had seen more cameras than Kendall Jenner. Slowly—so painfully slowly—my eyes drifted down his sinewy body. I just wanted to see what all the fuss was about. Whatever I had in mind, though, didn’t come close to the real thing. Thick, long but not atrocious. With thin veins running through its length.

“Nice view?” he groaned, tucking his junk back into his briefs. His profile was glorious. Strong jaw, pouty lips, eyes like sex…

My eyes snapped up when I realized he was talking to me. “I wasn’t…”

“Looking? Yes, you were. Next time take a picture. It lasts longer.” He rolled his zipper upward and flushed the toilet with the toe of his boot. He turned around and squirted soap into his palm, washing his hands almost violently—rubbing between each finger and scratching his knuckles like he wanted to shed his own skin. When he was done, he looked around for a towel.

I cleared my throat, scrambling to regain my wits. “Longer than the glimpse or longer than your performance?”

Casually—so unbearably casually—he wiped his wet hands over my purple dress. I gasped, moving sideways. It looked like he was about to open the door and get out, but before I had the chance to yell at him for using me as a human towel, he slammed me against the wall, bracing both his arms above my head and pinning me to my spot. I let out a shriek of surprise at the sudden proximity.

Alex Winslow is touching me. Willingly, my surprisingly pitiful brain squealed.

Heat rolled off his body, making my back arch and my breath catch in my throat.

“Let’s make one thing clear—I could fuck you to a point of numbness without even breaking a sweat if I wanted to. Now, careful, New Girl. If you don’t keep your distance from me, I think I just might.”

Midnight Blue.jpg

Overall thoughts: LJ Shen is one of the truly gifted writers when it comes to the romance genre book world; that being said, all of her male muses are starting to really rub me the wrong way. Being an asshole when you’re alpha male or the hero in a romantic story apparently is becoming a huge trope in the romance genre. Most of the time I’m fine with it because later reasons come out and explain the male guy is a jerk. Most of the time the reasons are valid, but being a jerk to the leading lady? Not so much. Again most of the time with but Alex Winslow really annoyed me.

I noticed it when I read Vicious by LJ Shen too; the leading male is a complete and utter douche to the heroine and a lot of readers find this attractive and swoon. However I do not; I don’t think it’s attractive and I honestly find it a scary at how many readers are drawn to someone written like that. It took me literally three reads to sort of like Vicious and I honestly kept reading because LJ Shen is a great writer and storyteller. Little did I know the same issues I had with Vicious would come back to haunt me with Midnight Blue. There are little things that irk me when it comes to reading but being a complete jerk to the person you fall in love with is a big one. But the other issue I have when it comes to reading? Really, really awful and hurtful jokes.

I am part of a military family and the “going to war” and ISIS jokes really upset me. Even if it was meant to be funny towards someone who isn’t involved with the military, how can the idea of going off to fight war or include ISIS, the group that is known for atrocious and demoralizing acts funny? It’s not funny. At all. Those were my only two issues with Midnight Blue, the bad “jokes” and Alex being a jerk. But after saying all that is Midnight Blue worth reading to dear reader? Absolutely.

Everyone loves a good comeback and lord knows fallen from grace rocker Alex Winslow needs it. He needs a babysitter too apparently Indigo, down on her luck, family loving and fashion designer guru is perfect for the job. What could go wrong when a normal person falls in love with additive rock god? A lot. But the ride that was Midnight Blue was worth taking. The characters are great and holds a great message when it comes to doing the right thing and addressing drug abuse and addiction. Indigo and Alex was electric hot when it comes to chemistry and I enjoyed the high’s and low’s of their relationship. Although I may not agree with some of the things included her in stories, LJ Shen is not meant to be overlooked because her stories truly are great and excuse the pun but rocking.

ARC Review: Fake Wife by Stacey Lynn

f w 1.jpg
The Cover: I adore this cover! You can feel steamy the chemistry come through the cover with this couple and I think it’s a perfect cover that represents Corbin and Teagan.

Basics: Fake Wife was released on January 9th, published by Loveswept and is 219 pages long. Genre wise Fake Wife belongs to contemporary romance.

Description: This marriage is strictly business . . . until the temptation gets way too real.

Corbin: I loved my grandma, but I don’t need her money. All I care about is keeping the house—the only place that’s ever felt like home. That, and screwing over my dad, who wants to turn the property into a mall. There’s only one catch: To receive my inheritance, I have to get married within six months. Me, the guy who’s never dated a girl for more than six minutes. Now I need to find a woman I can trust. So when I’m rear-ended by a Prius, I figure it’s a sign that I’m supposed to meet gorgeous, down-to-earth Teagan Monroe.

Teagan: First I lose my job. Then I come home and find out—in the most graphic way possible . . . yeah, that way—that my boyfriend is a cheating jerk. And then I speed off and nearly kill Portland’s sexiest bachelor. Sterling Lane should be pissed. Instead, he offers me more money than I’ve ever seen in my life to marry him and live together in a mansion for two years. No sex. No feelings. Just cash—enough to make all my dreams come true. Then we go and break all our rules . . . and I realize I’m falling in love with my fake fiancé.

Fake Wife.jpg

Overall thoughts: Fake Wife was such a fun and cute read! It had an interesting story that had several different aspects to it but somehow everything came together for a great romantic read. Teagan isn’t exactly living her life at the moment and Corbin is dealing with the loss of someone he loved and is being threatened to have something very dear to him taken away, so why not put these two together and see what happens?

Teagan just found out her boyfriend (the boyfriend who she’s given up dreams and traveled all over the country for mind you!) is the worst and on top of that lost her job. Not to mention the fact that she had to leave the apartment she was in because who wants to stay with their cheating, lying ex? No one! But everything changes when she runs into the back of Corbin Lane, AKA Millionaire Playboy of Portland, the man every woman wants to get their hands on. Ironically enough he’s dealing with some issues as well and once he talks to Teagan and finds out situation, he suddenly realizes that the woman who just rear ended his car might be the solutions to all their problems.

Teagan and Corbin were such a great couple and I loved reading about them. Being in a fake relationship usually comes with a different set of problems and I really did enjoy reading about how they came together all those problems. Their chemistry was deeply palpable and honestly made me want to rush through the book because I wanted to know what was going to happen to them so badly! I loved them THAT much.

Stacey Lynn does it again with Fake Wife and I highly suggest reading this fabulous book if you love a fake love story turning into something much more real and magical!
