Blurb: She started from perfect. A star who shone brighter than the rest.
But then fate took it all away. Now she’s broken. A beautiful song with a fractured beat.

But I’m still on the rise. Chasing a dream that she’s already left behind. If I’m lucky, I can find my redemption in the spotlight. Destiny brought us together. Put her in my path.

It started with a road trip. But somewhere along the line, it became a journey from here to there. Maybe she can help me. Maybe we can help each other. Maybe music is enough.

Maybe. Every story deserves a soundtrack. And ours is epic.

Review & Excerpt: It Seemed Like A Good Idea A The Time by Kylie Scott

ISLAGIATT FOR WEB
The Cover: I really like It Seemed Like A Good Idea A The Time and it’s very aesthetically pleasing with the background, font and cover model. However I do wish there was more of Pete in it and more of his essence and not just his abs.

Basics:  It Seemed Like A Good Idea A The Time was released on August 7th 2018 and is 316 pages long. Genre wise It Seemed Like A Good Idea A The Time belongs to contemporary romance and age gap romance.

Description: Returning home for her father’s wedding was never going to be easy for Adele. If being sent away at eighteen hadn’t been bad enough, the mess she left behind when she made a pass at her dad’s business partner sure was.

Fifteen years older than her, Pete had been her crush for as long as she could remember. But she’d misread the situation—confusing friendliness for undying love. Awkward. Add her father to the misunderstanding, and Pete was left with a broken nose and a business on the edge of ruin. The man had to be just as glad as everyone else when she left town.

Seven years later, things are different. Adele is no longer a kid, but a fully grown adult more than capable of getting through the wedding and being polite. But all it takes is seeing him again to bring back those old feelings. Sometimes first loves are the truest.
Good-Idea-promo-4.jpg
Excerpt: It was meant to be a soft kiss. A chaste one, even.

The minute my lips touched his, however, everything changed. Callused hands grabbed the sides of my face and my mouth opened on a gasp. His tongue swept inside, taking me over. Holy hell. Shoes and purse hit the floor, forgotten. Nothing about this kiss was slow or easy. The man devoured me. Every ounce of emotion poured into that kiss, all of the anger and frustration between us. His tongue was teasing and tasting, driving me wild. Then he drew back to suck and nip at my bottom lip. One hand slid around the back of my neck, the other over my hip to grab at my ass. His hold was firm, a little rough even. He treated my body like it belonged to him and I wasn’t gentle either.

Apparently experience mattered. Because all I could do was try and keep up.

I held on tight to his open shirt, straining against him, trying to get closer. I’d have crawled inside the man if I could. Turned out that under certain circumstances, the taste of scotch worked for me in a big way. Against my hip, his cock hardened, digging into me. And oh my God, I’d done that to him. Me. How amazing! Meanwhile, my body felt liquid, core aching and empty. I needed him inside of me and it seemed like I’d already been waiting forever.

“Pete. Please.”

“Fuck,” he muttered, breath hot against my ear.

I fumbled at the remaining buttons on his shirt. My damn fingers didn’t seem to be working. Easier to just push the whole thing upward. Luckily, the man decided to help, tearing the shirt off over his head. More skin was good. And he was so hot and smooth, a thrill to the touch. The solid flesh of his pecs and the flat plane of his stomach.

He tore at the zipper on the back of my dress, dragging fabric down over my shoulders. A growl came from the back of his throat, a noise of frustration, impatience. I’m reasonably certain I heard the silk rip. I didn’t care. His hands and mouth seemed to cover every bit of skin revealed, touching and tasting me everywhere. The dress got stuck on my hips. Out of the way enough for now.

He didn’t even bother undoing my bra, simply peeling down one of the lace cups to free my flesh. My breast filled his hot palm as it took the weight. Fingers plumped me, his thumb flicking over my hard nipple. The sting of pain followed by the heat of his kiss made my head spin and my body ache. There was no room for thought as he fed me deep, wet kisses. Slowly, he took us to the floor. No time for anything else. Just the urgent need to have him inside me.

The hardness of the polished wood was cool against my back. My legs were spread, his body between them. And with his broad chest above me, his weight taken on one arm, he was all I could see. I swear even the insides of my thighs were wet, I was so ready. It would have been embarrassing with anybody else. But this man, he had to know, he had to understand. It had always been him.

“Pete, I need—”

“I know,” he said, voice harsh and low.

It Seemed Like A Good Idea At The Time Overall thoughts: It Seemed Like A Good Idea A The Time by Kylie Scott is one of the best reads of the Summer! One of my favorite genres of romance to read about is age gap/difference romance and honestly? It’s a breath of fresh air because every relationship is different and these two, Adele and Pete have heck of a backstory and connection.

Adele is back home visiting her father for his upcoming wedding, trouble is she hasn’t visited for a very long time due to the incident. Yes…THE incident. No spoilers but the pure teenage angst, love and overall feel of the incident was such a teenager thing to do that I am still laughing about it weeks later. Adele is a precious cinnamon roll and I adore her.

Pete and Adele have a complicated history and complicated relationship with mountains and mountains of desire for each other and it’s one heck of a mess to sort through. Overall I really loved Adele and Pete as a couple, I think the whole age gap issue isn’t a big deal considering I myself am married to another man and I also found it refreshing because it’s not written about much. Lately age gap romance is becoming more popular yes, but before? Not so much.

The only issue I had with It Seemed Like A Good Idea At The Time was PETE. I have a love-hate relationship with the man! Oh my goodness! He drove me NUTS. In a good and bad way! But the angst and self hate thing he deals with because he wants Adele and the fact  she is younger and he feels bad about it drove me BANANAS. You are attracted to her, you were close with her and share a connection…accept it already! If it’s legal…who cares! But also reading about him struggling for his feelings with Adele and wanting/loving her made me swoon too, so I can’t complain too much!

It Seemed Like A Good Idea At The Time will definitely one of my favorite reads of the summer! Adele and Pete have one of the best static age gap romances I have ever read about and I adore them!

Review: Poor Unfortunate Soul: A Tale of the Sea Witch by Serena Valentino

41e6EaNZGKL.jpg
The Cover: I really love this cover especially for a retelling according to the villain’s side of the story. Everyone knows The Little Mermaid and Ursula is one of the most iconic villains ever and I really like this cover. What I also really loved about Poor Unfortunate Soul was the fact that when you remove the cover sleeve, the cover becomes Ursula’s human counterpart, Vanessa.

Basics: Poor Unfortunate Soul was released on July 26th 2016, published by Disney Press and is 208 pages long. It is the the third book in the Villans trilogy. Genre wise Poor Unfortunate Soul belongs to Young Adult and Fantasy.

Description: The third novel in Serena Valentino’s (Fairest of All, Beast Within) “VILLAINS” trilogy, featuring the story of the Little Mermaid from the perspective of the sea witch Ursula.
Poor Unforunate Soul
Overall thoughts: I am a huge Disney fan! Since I was little I loved everything Disney and it’s no surprise that I adore The Little Mermaid! Considering the basis of this blog’s design is based off beachy style! I was in Barnes & Nobles several months ago when I saw on one of the display shelves that Disney Published and author Serena Valentino teamed up to write books based off Disney villain’s points of views. I immediately grabbed Ursula’s book, Poor Unfortunate Soul. I just finished reading it recently and I was completely blown away!

I’ve read a lot of difference versions of retellings of fairy-tales but not like this! I like reading from different types of perspectives: good guy, bad guy, etc. There’s always two sides to a story and Poor Unfortunate Soul definitely tells you Ursula’s side of the story and then some! Valentino adds some other interesting details in Poor Unfortunate Soul that literally had me pausing my reading and saying, “Wait…what?!”

Ursula is still herself in this book and she is definitely evil too, but Valentino adds more depth to the sea witch and she actually made me feel bad for her. Seriously. Overall Poor Unfortunate Soul is any fantasy, fairy tale, Disney lover’s dream. It is part of Valentino’s Villain’s trilogy series and can be read as a standalone but I feel like the reader would understand the book and series better if they had read the other books in the series, which I plan on doing very soon!

Confessions: Priest, book three in the steamy contemporary MMM Confessions Series from Ella Frank, is coming August 20th!
Confessions-PRIEST-PRINT-FOR-WEB.jpeg
Blurb: I am complex. My love is all-encompassing.
And when it comes to my heart, there is only one rule: Don’t mess with what’s mine.
Until the age of seven, I was Joel Alexander Donovan, son of Jimmy.

The man who terrorized a town and made its citizens fear  the very ground he walked on. Including me,  the day I realized that ground ran red with blood.

At age eighteen, I became Priest. A man without a past.
A man determined to right the wrongs of my father.
A man who never believed anyone could love the son of such a monster.
But then a thief stole my heart. A sweetheart lit up my world.
And I forgot for a moment you should never turn your back on your enemy.

And thus begins a lesson to those who would seek to harm: Never underestimate what the Priest will do to protect the Princess and the Prick.

Kiss My Ash Teaser Text Books (2).pngBlurb: Ash Jenkins was the typical boy next door. Wait, who am I kidding? There was nothing typical about that boy.

He was tall, ripped, and had the voice of a man twice his age. Intelligent, sexy as sin, and barely legal.

Sent to live with his dad after getting in some trouble with the law, he was definitely someone I needed to stay away from.

But he had his sights set on me, and he didn’t try to hide it.

Did it still make me a cougar if I was the prey?

Overall Review July 2018

My Post (43)

Oh my goodness! July went by SO fast! I reviewed some ARC’s for this month but I also did a lot of re-reading for review which was a complete blast! I’ve read a lot of books before I became a book blogger and I’m glad I found a way to incorporate past books I’ve read and loved into my blog! So without further ado, my overall review for July 2018!
 divider 3
I started off July with re-reading the Stage Dive series by Kylie Scott, reading Lick first! It was so much fun revisiting this series this month! Kylie Scott is a fantastic writer and her Stage Dive series is a staple for any romance book lovers collection! This series means a lot to me personally because the books were published during a very transitional time in my life so I really loved re-reading them for review. The Stage Dive series focuses on a famous rock band with all of the four bandmates falling in love. Under really interesting circumstances might I add!

I had the amazing opportunity to read and review for Jen Frederick which I was SUPER excited for! I’m a big fan of her and this was my first solo book of her I had the chance to review for (I’ve only read her other books Erin Watt wise.) Want You is about two kids growing up and falling in love with each other, which is honestly one of my favorite romance trope books EVER. I am a sucker for them. I just think knowing someone for most of your entire life and later falling in love with them, I think it makes it even more special. Not to mention that some criminal activity is involved in Want You, so it’s not just hand holding and flowers, things get a bit nerve-wracking. I love this book and Want You is definitely one of my favorite reads of the Summer!

I also had the opportunity to read and review for some new authors I haven’t read before which was so much fun! His Distraction by Tanya Gallagher was a kinky, fun, adventure read that was a surprise for me. The books where people don’t think they are going to fall in love or don’t want love are always something I enjoy.

2017-471 M L Sparrow, b02
I also had the opportunity to read and review for ML Sparrow for her college romance book, Flirt. It had been a minute since I had read a college romance story so it was a nice change of pace for me.
About the Author: M L Sparrow is currently the author of several full length novels, three novellas and a slew of short stories published in various anthologies. Her novella, A Tangled Web, was a finalist in the 2017 Next Generation Indie Book Awards and in the 2017 Readers’ Favorite Awards. Another novella, Red Days, was a winner in the Book Excellence Awards, Current Events category.

She will write pretty much anything that pops into her head, no matter the genre, and enjoys keeping her readers guessing as to what she will write next, though you can pretty much guarantee that there will be some degree of romance!

As well as writing, she enjoys travelling and is currently living in Tokyo. Her travels are a constant source of inspiration and she has an endless supply of ideas for future novels…

I’ve been re-reading a lot of books for review and to celebrate Katy Evan’s upcoming release Playboy part of her Manwhore series, I decided to re-read one of my favorites, Ladies Man. The Darkest Drae trilogy ended with Black Crown and I was really bummed it was finished! I loved all the books (Blood Oath, Shadow Wings and Black Crown) but I was a bit disappointed with the ending. That aside, this book and the rest of the trilogy is a great mixture of Mature YA, fantasy and romance!

My review of Black Crown

About the Authors:
Kelly St. Clare: Books have always been magical and mysterious to her. One day she decided to start unraveling this mystery and began writing. Her works include The Tainted Accords, The After Trilogy, and The Darkest Drae. A New Zealander in origin and in heart, Kelly currently resides in Australia with her ginger-bearded husband, a great group of friends, and some huntsman spiders who love to come inside when it rains. Their love is not returned.

Raye Wagner: As one of eight children, I learned to love reading as a means of escaping the chaos that comes with being a part of a large family. When I was a teenager, I read Leon Uris’s Exodus, and fell in love with the character, Kitty Fremont. Not only was I in love with Ari Ben Canaan (my first introduction to an alpha male), but I felt a connection with her, so much so that I pursued a career in nursing. I continued to collect books and read through college, and even as I established my career. Years later, I read the Twilight saga, my first introduction to YA literature as an adult. I was in Half-Price Books and picked up a middle-grade novel with a boy and a lightning bolt on the cover. I read the first page, and bought the first four Percy Jackson books. Isn’t this series fantastic? After that I was hooked, and YA literature became my genre of choice.

I live in Middle Tennessee with my husband and three children. My favorite things include trips to the beach, baking sweets (and eating them), Tae Kwon Do, and doing puzzles and Legos with my family.

Review & Release Blitz: Playboy by Katy Evans

Playboy-Amazon
The Cover: I think the cover for Playboy is gorgeous and the yellow with the greyscale is gorgeous but this is seriously like the millionth shirtless book cover I have seen this year! I mean probably not the millionth cover, but it certainly feels like it! That being said it definitely reminds me of Cullen and has calm, cocky, sexy attitude and I love it.

Basics: Playboy was released on July 29th 2018, published by CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform and is 338 pages long. Genre wise Playboy is contemporary romance and standalone.

Description: It started as a game. We flirted. We played. Most importantly—we won.
Then I discovered who he was: Gambler. Famous playboy. Silver-eyed player who never plays to lose…and my best friend’s soon-to-be brother in law, Cullen Carmichael.

He needed a good luck charm, I needed a distraction.
So we made a gamble and set off for Vegas—but pretty soon—I was in too deep.
My heart, soul, and body weren’t supposed to be part of the deal.
But somewhere between big wins and long nights, my house of cards started to tumble.
What was this devil with those piercing eyes doing to me?
I’d given up on love, but the wicked, all-in Cullen Carmichael was upping the ante and wouldn’t stop until he’d won it all.
elusive2
Overall thoughts: Wow! Woooooow! WOW!! I was completely and utterly blown away and destroyed by Playboy! As many of you know, I am the biggest Katy Evans fangirl EVER and Remy from her first book, Real is my hero. But Cullen gives Remy one heck of a run for number one guy! I fell SO hard for Cullen, oh my goodness! What a character, what a man!

Playboy is part of the Manwhore series universal but definitely can be read a standalone. I definitely loved how all the other characters were included in Cullen and Wynn’s story, everyone is married and riding off into the sunset it seems…except for gallery owner and hopeless romantic Wynn. She is getting over a bad, bad break up and is determined to leave her loser ex in the dust behind her. I don’t blame the girl either, her ex was HORRIBLE. Horrible to the point where Wynn suddenly swears off men…until she meets the Playboy that is.

Meeting Cullen changes everything; Wynn is attracted to him, intrigued and when he offers an escape to Vegas she takes it and their trip changes everything between them. I love and I mean LOVE these two together. They are such a special couple and Evans does a fantastic job with them, they leap off the pages of Playboy and dive deep into your heart making a home there.

No spoilers, but one of the many specials things about Katy Evans as a writer is how she makes each book and couple so relatable. Wynn and Cullen deal with something that 44% American couples face every day and I am really glad and thankful that Katy included this in their love story. I loved Playboy so much, it will definitely be one of my favorite books of the summer and the year!

Review: Flirt by ML Sparrow

2017-471 M L Sparrow, b02
The Cover: I really love this cover! I think it’s a strong image and it embodies Riley perfectly.

Basics: Flirt was released on July 27th 2018 and is 266 pages long. Genre wise Flirt belongs to contemporary romance.

Description: Flirting never hurt…
Forced to give up her promising gymnastics career due to a devastating injury, Riley Murphy decides to join her twin sister at St Joseph’s University in Texas. Finding a best friend in her roommate, Chloe, she nonetheless finds herself going off the rails as she indulges in drugs, alcohol and boys. However, playing quickly turns into something she can’t control… Too ashamed to confide in her friends or family, and with a boyfriend who does nothing but feed her addictions, the person she turns to is Cameron Lucas, someone she knew as a child.

Cam’s loved Riley since he used to go to work with his mama at the Murphy estate, but she was always so far out of his league. Now he’s beginning to realize that he never really knew her in the first place… However, that realization only deepens his feelings. But the question is, how far is he willing to go to help someone who won’t help them self? And can he discover the demons driving her to self-destruct?
*Contains scenes of drug and alcohol abuse.*

Overall thoughts: Flirt is a book about a college student struggling to find her way; I think it’s super hard when something changes your life forever, especially when you can’t continue what you thought you would do. In this case  Riley Murphy gymnastics career is over, which personally I think is one of the hardest sporting events in history. It takes YEARS to do what men and women when it comes to gymnastics. So learning that you suddenly can’t do it anymore is truly devastating.

So what does every college student tend to do when their dream suddenly ends? Make bad decisions. I certainly didn’t enjoy that aspect of Flirt, I felt like it was a important component of Riley’s story and I get why it was included, but I really didn’t enjoy reading about it. However to ease that uncomfortableness comes in the form of Riley’s childhood friend Cameron Lucas. Things get interesting to stay the least, especially when suddenly you see someone you grew up with in a different light and immediately things change between them. Things get super interesting once this occurs.

If you like college romances with angsty drama, Flirt is the read for you. I liked it a lot, however the writing and pace didn’t always hold my attention. But I feel like this issue will improve with each book ML Sparrow continues and I look forward to her future releases.

Review: Ladies Man by Katy Evans

51VIfw03U-L._SX326_BO1,204,203,200_27231804

The Cover: Ladies Man got a new cover this year (2018) and while it’s super attractive and great to look at, I am SO mourning the old cover! I loved the old cover because I truly believed it showed Tahoe’s spirit and I just think it’s gorgeous! The new cover is nice but I prefer the old one.

Basics: Ladies Man was released on April 26th 2016, published by CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform, is 290 pages long and is part of the Manwhore series. Genre wise Ladies Man belongs to contemporary romance and standalone.

Description: He’s not the guy you date. He’s the one night stand.

You’d think the man who sends hot looks my way, who called me succulent, would want to strip me to my skin and spread me out on his bed like every other woman in Chicago.

Except he passed on my offer…. Just like I once did on his. He’s wary, like I am. He’s broken, like I am. And everyone knows two broken parts can’t ever make a whole.

So I try to distract myself. I’m back to dating.Tahoe and I are strictly friends. He doesn’t think my new beau is good enough, but to him, no man is good enough for me. Especially Tahoe himself. But the more time Tahoe and I spend around each other, the more confused I feel.

I’m trying to open myself to love. But I’m quickly realizing that the only man I want is stubborn, cocky, unattainable playboy Tahoe Roth.

The one your mother warned you about.
The one my body craves.
The only one who will surely break my heart.

Overall thoughts: Ladies Man is one my favorite books ever and of Katy Evan’s. Tahoe Roth is such a gorgeous, sexy, complex character. Whereas Gina is the beautiful, strong, stubborn woman trying to find her way in this complicated world we have. She is very independent and although she has good friends, tends to find herself riding solo not just with her social life but also when to family and relationships. Tahoe and Gina have been dancing around each other for awhile, both of their friends fell in love and got married…their social circles forever intertwined.  They start off as “friends” but start to change and grow into something that both surprises and terrifies them. Did I mention how much I love this book?!

Gina and Tahoe have such a wonderful love story. Ladies Man is one of the best slow burning romance books I have ever read. Don’t get me wrong, it drove me nuts because I just wanted them to be together already, but these two are definitely worth the wait and angst. Their attraction and need for each other go so much deeper than lust and the love they have for each other is so heartwarming. I seriously love them. I wish Katy had written ten more books about them honestly.

Ladies Man is part of the Manwhore series but can be read as a standalone. You don’t have to know what’s going on in the other Manwhore books but I feel like if you have read the other Manwhore books it makes reading Ladies Man much more special. Again Ladies Man is one of my favorite books ever, it’s been two years and I am still obsessed with Tahoe and Gina. I probably will be for the rest of my life and I can guarantee you’ll love them too!

Favorite Quotes: “Love should make you feel good about yourself and about the person you are when you’re with the one you love. Love should make you feel accepted a you are.” -Gina

“I love every part of you. I could be a thousand miles away from you, stay away from you my whole life, put an ocean between us, take a million other women in my arms, and you’re still the one I want, the only woman on my mind.” -Tahoe
