The CoverBlack Crown‘s cover is so gorgeous! I love how Ryn is front and center, beautiful, deadly and strong. But my other favorite part of this cover is all the other details about it! There’s so many intricate details and the color scheme is just mesmerizing, I love this book cover!

Basics: Black Crown was released on June 30th 2018, is the third book of the Darkest Drae series and is 389 pages. Genre wise Black Crown belongs to Mature Young Adult, Fantasy and Romance.

Description: I will not be ruled by fear. A depraved emperor. A wasted realm. A dying race. With Tyrrik by my side, I’ll lead the charge to remedy it all.

After discovering the rightful heir to the Phaetyn, an alliance with the healers should be easy as pancakes. But while the armies of Verald and Gemond march to the border for war, the emperor delivers a crushing blow that threatens to put everything at risk.

As I fight my father’s staggering power, I’m compelled to face evil on his terms. A twisted darkness worse than anything I’ve experienced.

Nothing could’ve prepared me for this. How far would you go to defeat a merciless sovereign? I’ll lie to the liars. I’ll betray the betrayers. I’ll kill the killers.
I will conquer my fear.

Overall thoughts: I can’t believe the Darkest Drae series is over! What a complete ride this series has been! I stumbled upon it on Kindle Unlimited and I am so glad I did! Black Crown starts right after the events of Shadow Wings, with Ryn finally accepting Tyrrick as her mate! Squee! However before anything can happen with that, Ryn, Tyrrick and the rest of the gang have to face the ensuing war that is literally about to overtake them and everyone else!

No spoilers but Black Crown wraps up everything that goes on in this series. The war to Ryn and Tyrrick’s complicated relationship and even her horrible Father himself. Wagner and Clare do a great job and tying up loose ends, however I had a few issues with Black Crown. One, I feel like the ending was very confusing outside of the epilogue; I actually had to go back and re-read the chapter to realize what was going on. I understand where they were coming from and what imagery they were trying to produce, but it was just confusing. Two, throughout the series dragon lairs were talked about A LOT so when I got a hold of Black Crown I was super excited because as the last book in the series, surely they were going to include a description or chapter of such lair right? Slight spoiler so skip the next few sentences if you don’t want to be spoiled but no such thing happened! That was SO disappointing! Tyrrick teased Ryn over and over about how amazing and grand his lair was, that he took YEARS filling it with jewels and wondrous treasures for her…but we never got to see it! Missed opportunity!

However…those were my only struggles with Black Crown, other than that…what a wonderful way to end the series! Action, fantasy, so much romance! Black Crown delivered and then some! One of my favorite parts of this book was how Wagner and Clare didn’t skip out on Ryn and Tyrrick’s relationship. With so many YA books nowadays, a lot of them skip out on the intimate moments between characters. Black Crown did not do this, they showed a bit of our two favorite dragon’s intimate moments without it turning into PG13 and beyond read. It was tastefully done and Tyrrick is just so swoon worthy!

Overall if you love a good fantasy, mature YA and romance book and series, Black Crown and the Darkest Drae series is for you! Beautiful detailed descriptions, exciting plot with strong, depth filled characters Black Crown delivers. I look forward to reading what these two authors dish out next!

Kelly St. Clare: Books have always been magical and mysterious to her. One day she decided to start unraveling this mystery and began writing. Her works include The Tainted Accords, The After Trilogy, and The Darkest Drae. A New Zealander in origin and in heart, Kelly currently resides in Australia with her ginger-bearded husband, a great group of friends, and some huntsman spiders who love to come inside when it rains. Their love is not returned.

Raye Wagner: As one of eight children, I learned to love reading as a means of escaping the chaos that comes with being a part of a large family. When I was a teenager, I read Leon Uris’s Exodus, and fell in love with the character, Kitty Fremont. Not only was I in love with Ari Ben Canaan (my first introduction to an alpha male), but I felt a connection with her, so much so that I pursued a career in nursing. I continued to collect books and read through college, and even as I established my career. Years later, I read the Twilight saga, my first introduction to YA literature as an adult. I was in Half-Price Books and picked up a middle-grade novel with a boy and a lightning bolt on the cover. I read the first page, and bought the first four Percy Jackson books. Isn’t this series fantastic? After that I was hooked, and YA literature became my genre of choice.

I live in Middle Tennessee with my husband and three children. My favorite things include trips to the beach, baking sweets (and eating them), Tae Kwon Do, and doing puzzles and Legos with my family.
