HH_AVAILABLE NOW.pngBlurb: The perfect man for her is the one she hates most. #gofigure
Dating is hard. Dating in your thirties is even harder. Dating in Chicago is harder still.

I haven’t given up on finding my happily-ever-after, but in the age of swiping right and Netflix and chill, I’m wondering if everything is as temporary as my marriage turned out to be. Truth is, there is one guy I can’t get my mind off of.

Roarke Baldwin has salt and pepper hair I’ve dreamed of running my hands through and I’m pretty sure that if I checked he really does have a six pack of abs underneath his suit. And I’ve always wondered what that stubble on his face would feel like between my thighs. The problem? He’s the one man I hate more than my ex-husband…his divorce attorney.

Excerpt: I press the numbers on my phone with shaky fingers, bringing the receiver up to my ear and release a deep breath.

He picks up after one ring. “I thought we were friends? Having your assistant call my assistant. Tsk. Tsk, Ms. Crowley.”

Aggravation fuses together every cell in my body until I become an impenetrable wall.

“First, we are not friends. Second, I would prefer to talk to you via our office phones.”

There’s a brief second of silence where he’s probably realizing I called him through my office line.

“Ahh… so now you have my number and I don’t have yours? That seems terribly unfair.”

“I didn’t realize you cared about fairness?” I lean back in my chair and cross my legs.

“You don’t know that much about me. It’s not like you know me intimately.” He lowers his voice on the last word and drags it out.

I roll my eyes, happy we’re not face-to-face so he can’t see the flush in my cheeks.

“You may have witnessed how I own the courtroom, but you know nothing about my private life. For instance, you don’t know if I like thrillers or comedies. Whether I prefer sorbet to ice cream or if I wear boxers or briefs.”

“I don’t need to know those things,” I say with frustration, shutting my eyes to rid the vision from my head of him in tight black boxer briefs—since that’s my preference.

“You want to know though.” A sexual innuendo pours out of his mouth and hits its mark between my thighs.

“There you go making assumptions about my wants.” I pick up my pen, shuffling through paperwork. Anything to distract me from this ache.

“I not only know what you want, I know what you need, Ms. Crowley.”

I smack my hand down on my desk. “Okay Rico Suave, let’s talk about this venue you have access to and keep the discussion of undergarments for another time.”

A beeping sound interrupts us.

“Hold all my calls please, Kristen.” Then nothing for a moment. “Sorry about that but you know how busy I am.”

“Yes, I’m sure destroying people’s lives takes a lot of time. So let’s stop the sexual innuendos and get down to business.”

“Let’s meet tonight. You frequent Torrio’s. I frequent Torrio’s. Let’s do something crazy and have a drink together.”

“I don’t need a drink at Torrio’s, Mr. Baldwin, I need a venue to house my gala. Now tell me your terms and I want the details of this venue you insist you can secure. I refuse to meet you until you supply me with that information.” I uncross my legs and tap my foot on the floor under me.

“So demanding. I like it.” I can hear him shuffling papers in the background. “I’ll have my assistant message your assistant with all the details of the venue. I’m sure it will be of your liking. Then we’ll meet tonight at Torrio’s. Seven sharp. Consider it our own personal happy hour.”

“I’m not committing to anything until I see the venue.”

“Then I’ll see you at seven.” The phone clicks and I stare at the receiver in my hand.

“Prick,” I murmur.

A knock sounds on my door.

Review: His Distraction by Tanya Gallagher

download
The Cover: I think the cover of His Distraction is very attractive and eye catching, however I feel like the whole ab/chest shot picture of models is taking over covers lately. I wish there was a more representation of Jeremy  and not just a picture of his abs.

Basics: His Distraction was released on July 9th and is 320 pages long.  Genre wise His Distraction belongs to contemporary romance and new adult.

Description: He wants to save the world one vibrator at a time. She’d rather feed the homeless.

Jeremy Glass, CEO of Seattle’s hottest sex toy company, has a fantastic life: he’s single, rich, and has a parade of “product testers” to help him warm his sheets at night. He’s about to land the deal of a lifetime and finally prove that his untraditional business is more than valid. The only problem is he just fired the one woman his client insists handle their account. He knows if he hires her back, Vanessa Reese will be a distraction—after all, she’s gorgeous, sweet, and witty. Jeremy knows better than to mix business and pleasure, but he suddenly finds himself chasing after a woman for a change, and this one’s determined to keep him on his toes.

When Jeremy asks Vanessa to come back to X Enterprises, she isn’t interested in what he has to offer—not his pretty face and sculpted body, and certainly not his arrogant attitude—until Jeremy makes her a deal: spend ten weeks in his employment, and then he’ll help her land the social work job she really wants. When Vanessa agrees, she finds herself plunged into a world of sin and indulgence she never imagined. Despite the attraction between herself and Jeremy, Vanessa is determined not to give in and hand over her dignity and her chance at a steady paycheck. Probably. Because the more time she spends with Jeremy, the more she uncovers the kind, charming man hidden under his cocky exterior.

Can a sex toy CEO and a bleeding heart ever find love, or will their connection destroy everything they’ve worked for?

Overall thoughts: His Distraction is one of my favorite romance tropes, the cat and mouse game. Jeremy Glass is the CEO of successful Seattle’s hottest sex toy company; he’s rich, single and happy with the way his life is going…until Vanessa shows up. The woman he fired who he didn’t realize (for some super strange reason?) handles their money accounts. Yikes.

Vanessa clearly wants nothing to do with the man, but he offers something she can’t refuse. These two end up tangled up in a dance together whether they want to or not. Vanessa also has no idea the lifestyle Jeremy leaves, sure he may be the CEO of a sex toy company but not everything as it seems. She surely didn’t think she would find him to be kind and caring, especially under all that sex toy CEO, bossy exterior. They both start to realize they are falling for each other and unplanned love brings its own set of problems.

His Distraction is a good contemporary romance book with just enough dirty to spice it up for readers who want something more than a vanilla type of story.  Definitely worth a read if you like two unlikely people falling for one another.

Review: Lead by Kylie Scott

Lead.jpg

The Cover: Lead’s cover is the epitome of Jimmy; with the way the cover model is sitting, his lips, the way he’s holding the microphone it’s completely spot on and perfect! Love it!

Basics: Lead was released on July 29th 2014, published by St. Martin’s Griffin, book #3 in the Stage Dive series and is 321 pages long. Genre wise Lead belongs to contemporary romance, music romance and new adult.

Description: Can rock n’ roll’s most notorious bad boy be tamed by love?

As the lead singer of Stage Dive, Jimmy is used to getting whatever he wants, whenever he wants it-now he’s caught up in a life of hard partying and fast women. When a PR disaster serves as a wake-up call and lands him in rehab, he finds himself with Lena, a new assistant hired to keep him out of trouble.

Lena’s not willing to take any crap from her sexy boss and is determined to keep their relationship completely professional, despite their sizzling chemistry. But when Jimmy pushes her too far, he just might lose the best thing that’s ever happened to him. Can he convince his stubborn assistant to risk it all and let her heart take the lead?
Lead.jpg

Overall thoughts: Lead is such a good book! The entire Stage Dive series is fabulous and I think what I love most about it is that each book focuses on different couples with different dynamics, issues and personalities but works so well as a cohesive unit and series. Lead focuses on David’s (the leading man of Lick’s book) brother Jimmy Ferris, who recently just finished a stint in rehab and Lena, the secretary turned baby sitter for Jimmy as he embarks on fighting his addiction battle.

Jimmy has this quiet type of temper about him, is super stubborn and can be super frustrating at times but he is definitely the guy your mother warns you to stay away from in High School. He is the complete heartthrob package, leading singer of Stage Dive but suffers from substance abuse and some family troubles. Lena…where do I even begin to describe Lena? I adore her. She’s sassy with a I don’t care attitude stacked with a perseverance that doesn’t quit. Together Jimmy and Lena make quite a pair and they are literally what each other needs.

Lead is a story about two people trying to get away from their personal problems, not looking for a relationship but sort of end up falling each other and become exactly what the other person needs. It’s not perfect and it’s a bit messy, but if anything was easy is it worth having? I love how the story plays out in Lead and Jimmy and Lena relationship still is one of those relationships that I smile and think about today, four years later!

Favorite Quotes: “I’m healthy. I eat fruit.”

Review: Play by Kylie Scott

Play.jpg
The Cover: I love this cover much! It’s definitely one of my favorite’s and I definitely think it embodies Mal perfectly! My only complaint is that it doesn’t show any of his luscious, viking like locks.

Basics: Play was released on March 25th 2014, published by St. Martin’s Griffin, book #2 in the Stage Dive series and is 321 pages long. Genre wise Play belongs to contemporary romance, music romance and new adult.

Description: Mal Ericson, drummer for the world famous rock band Stage Dive, needs to clean up his image fast-at least for a little while. Having a good girl on his arm should do the job just fine. Mal doesn’t plan on this temporary fix becoming permanent, but he didn’t count on finding the one right girl.

Anne Rollins never thought she’d ever meet the rock god who plastered her teenage bedroom walls-especially not under these circumstances. Anne has money problems. Big ones. But being paid to play the pretend girlfriend to a wild life-of-the-party drummer couldn’t end well. No matter how hot he is. Or could it?
Play.jpg
Overall thoughts: Play is my favorite book of the entire Stage Dive series. Now to be fair I am completely biased because my husband is also a drummer, but who are we kidding? Mal Ericson is HOT. Each book of the Stage Dive series (Lick, Play, Lead & Deep) all focus on different band members falling in love and personally I think Play is the best.

Anne is having a bit of a hard time (aren’t we all?!), she’s struggling to pay rent and bills, focus on taking care of her sister and throughout it all keep her sanity in tact. When her horrible roommate skips out on her, she needs a night away from the chaos surrounding her and ends up at the home of David and Evelyn from Lick. She’s a friend of a friend that just happens to be married to one of the biggest rock stars around, no big deal.

However when she gets there, Anne is immediately pounced upon by Malcolm Ericson, drummer and apparent sex on a stick rock star.  He also happens to be Anne’s childhood crush which is adorable. Striking up a very odd conversation, Anne suddenly finds herself stuck with Mal who is willing to help her financially but with a catch.

These two go through a lot together but they are exactly what each other needs. Mal is dealing with something so horrible and tragic whereas Anne is dealing with her own demons and past and is definitely in need of some happy in her life. Mal and Anne balance each other out so well and are perfect for each other. I know I tend to gush about couples in reviews a lot but these two take the cake and then some.

Their need for each other and the love they develop between them is sweet, funny, and toe curling sexy. I really love these two as a couple and their story. Again, Play is my favorite Stage Dive book and I can guarantee you’ll swoon and love Mal as much as I do!

Couple Chemistry Rating: 5/5 Shells

Favorite Quotes: “We’ve broken my bed.”

Sale: Womanizer by Katy Evans

Womanizer by New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Katy Evans is 99¢ for a limited time only!w3.jpg
Blurb: You’ve seen the headlines: Womanizing billionaire player! Watch out! Stay away!
We were just two strangers. Facing a forbidden attraction, a chemical connection. Neither of us expected or wanted it to amount to more.
But I had never been drawn to a guy the way I was drawn to this one: my brother’s best friend, and CEO of the company where I interned.
Even knowing I should stay away, I proved to be too human, after all.
The chemistry was amazing. The laughs were incredible.
I opened up to him in more ways than I’d opened up to anyone before.
But sex was as far as I’d go. Just sex because he was too irresistible.
Just sex because I wouldn’t be falling for him.
Just sex because I’d leave in three months, and I’d like for my brother not to kill me, and for nobody to find out he was my wicked little secret.
He wasn’t the One. He was just a womanizer. But for a time, he would be mine.

He was tall, ripped, and had the voice of a man twice his age. Intelligent, sexy as sin, and barely legal.
