Review: War by Laura Thalassa

The Cover: War has a goregeous cover! I love how it depicts War perfectly and it is exactly how I imagined him when he is being introduced in the book. I also love the red and gold. I will definitely be adding War to my bookshelf very soon!

Basics: War was released on July 11th 2019, is book #2 in The Four Horsemen series and is part of the Kindle Unlimited program. Genre wise War belongs to paranormal romance and apocalyptic romance.

Description: They came to earth—Pestilence, War, Famine, Death—four horsemen riding their screaming steeds, racing to the corners of the world. Four horsemen with the power to destroy all of humanity. They came to earth, and they came to end us all.

The day Jerusalem falls, Miriam Elmahdy knows her life is over. Houses are burning, the streets run red with blood, and a traitorous army is massacring every last resident. There is no surviving this, especially not once Miriam catches the eye of War himself. But when the massive and terrifying horseman corners Miriam, he calls her his wife, and instead of killing her, he takes her back to his camp.

Now Miriam faces a terrifying future, one where she watches her world burn town by town, and the one man responsible for it all is her seemingly indestructible “husband”. But there’s another side to him, one that’s gentle and loving and dead set on winning her over, and she might not be strong enough to resist.

However, if there’s one thing Miriam has learned, it’s that love and war cannot coexist. And so she must make the ultimate choice: surrender to War and watch humankind fall, or sacrifice everything and stop him.

Overall thoughts: Laura Thalassa had big shoes to fill after Pestilence (the first book in the Four Horseman series) came out. She had literally done the impossible, she had made the four biblical horsemen interesting and more importantly intriguing and somehow attractive?! Pestilence completely blew me away and had my mind spinning with possibilities of THREE more horseman books, how in the world was she going to top Pestilence? But Laura definitely came through and knocked the ball outta of the park with War

The end of the world is here and with Pestilence being stopped, the next Horseman War was awakened. It’s not sickness this time to kill all humanity though, it’s all out War. This second Horseman is ruthless and more deadly, killing everyone and everything in it’s path; and NOT in the way you think. No spoilers but it definitely made me shiver! Deep in the middle east lives Miriam, an independent and smart archer and weapon maker. She is focused on surviving and nothing else, except when the second horseman of the apocalypse War appears and destroys her town. However instead of being mowed down like so many others, War rides up and snatches her…claiming that she is his wife?! What the what?! From there Miriam travels with the horseman and his horde, learning that if she doesn’t do something fast that War will keep moving across the Middle East and soon the world to kill and destroy everyone in his path. She’s determined to stop him, but Miriam doesn’t realize that means she will have to sacrifice everything and even surrender to War; and not just in body to him, but also her heart. Who knew saving the world meant falling for one of God’s messengers?!

I loved War! Miriam and War’s relationship definitely struggles A LOT, I mean hello…the man has been sent to kill us all, so OF COURSE someone would struggle with being attracted to someone like War. Or even worse falling for War. I am about all drama and the tug and pull of relationships so I loved, loved the back and forth between Miriam. Laura writes one heck of a compelling and nail biting story because especially with this series, you don’t know what’s going to happen next and I am seriously hooked to The Four Horseman series BAD. The story, the chemistry between Miriam and War and the overall feel of this book was intense, but a good intense. It was definitely a bit more compelling to than Pestilence because the two horseman are very different.

Although I loved Pestilence and War, I honestly wish we could skip Famine and move forward with Death’s book, AKA Thanatos because his little tidbits that he’s had in his two brothers books has completely fascinated me! I’m definitely excited for the next horseman’s book, Famine but I’m even more excited for Death’s! War along with Pestilence and the entire Four Horsemen’s series is a must read for any paranormal, end of the world romance reader!

About the Author:
Laura Thalassa Found in the forest when she was young, Laura Thalassa was raised by fairies, kidnapped by werewolves, and given over to vampires as repayment for a hundred year debt. She’s been brought back to life twice, and, with a single kiss, she woke her true love from eternal sleep. She now lives happily ever after with her undead prince in a castle in the woods. …or something like that anyway. When not writing, Laura can be found scarfing down guacamole, hoarding chocolate for the apocalypse, or curled up on the couch with a good book.
