Review: Maverick by Lora Leigh

The Cover: What I love about the Elite Ops series is that there are different versions of the covers. I personally love the versions I own, but I think it’s cool to have options. I really like Maverick‘s cover because I think it matches Micah’s essence perfectly.

Basics: Maverick was released on March 3rd 2009, is book #2 in the Elite Ops series, published by St. Martins and is 368 pages long. Genre wise Maverick belongs to: contemporary romance, new adult, military romance and erotica.

Description: Micah Sloane knows almost everything there is to know about Risa Clay, including the vicious betrayal she endured years ago and the distrust she’s harbored ever since. The only way for the Elite Ops agent to uncover an assassin―and banish the ghosts of his own dark past―is to use Risa as bait. Overall thoughts: So I’ve been re-reading the Elite Ops series by Lora Leigh and I can’t believe I FORGOT how amazing these books are! Oh my gosh! Each book focuses on a different remember of the team: Wild Card focused on an ex navy seal and Maverick focuses on Micah, the ex Mossad agent. The secret team composed of different ex military personnel from around the world are tasked by the government (this was never really confirmed, I’m just assuming!) to hunt down the worst of the worst and also seem to specialize in rescues.

Each book in the Elite Ops series can be read as a standalone but if you don’t want to feel lost, I would suggest reading them in order OR at least reading Wild Card first THEN Maverick. That being said, I love Maverick! It’s hard to chose a favorite in this series because they are all so good, but I really have a soft spot in my heart for Micah and Risa. Their love story is one about healing and overcoming the past and I think that although their experiences might directly not relate to you, as a reader you will be able to relate to them in some shape or form.

The chemistry between Micah and Risa is static, oh my goodness. They completely enthrall and enamor their way into your heart as you read through their story in Maverick. There is some action and some tense moments in this book, but I can guarantee the only thing you’ll care about and focus on is Micah and Risa’s relationship. I love Maverick so much and again if you’re into military style romances with touches of erotica, the Elite Ops series and Maverick is for you!

Review: Wild Card by Lora Leigh

The Cover: Wild Card‘s cover is perfect for the story and I really like the fact that the dog tags represent Noah. I also really like the colors of the this cover and everything just looks good and works together well.

Basics: Wild Card was released on August 26th 2008, published by St. Martin’s Paperbacks and is 430 pages long. Genre wise Wild Card belongs to romance, contemporary romance, erotica and military romance.

Description: It was supposed to be simple. All Navy SEAL Nathan Malone had to do was rescue three young girls from a Colombia drug cartel, then allow himself to be captured just long enough to draw out a government spy. That was before his mission went disastrously wrong…and before his wife, Bella, was told that Nathan was never coming home.

Bella’s mourned her husband’s death for three long years. But she has no idea he’s still alive. Forced to assume a new identity, the man Nathan was is now dead. If he can get back to his wife, can he keep the secret of who he really is…even as desire threatens to consume them? And as danger threatens to tear Bella from Nathan’s arms once more?

Overall thoughts: I found Wild Card on a beach trip in 2013 and I’ve been a follower of Lora Leigh ever since. I’ve read Wild Card so many times (especially at the beach) that the pages have water marks on them. Which was funny because originally I wasn’t too keen on Wild Card at first because as a military wife it can be a bit difficult reading anything military related, especially a military romance. Some authors do a lot of research beforehand, some don’t but many fail to capture the essence of someone in the military and their relationship. Lora Leigh is one of the authors that actually does a very good job of describing the hardships of being in the military and being married/with someone in the military and for that I am very grateful.

But enough about me! Wild Card is about Nathan and Sabella Malone, a happily married and deeply in love one another couple who are part of the Navy Seals. Nathan takes a mission that he doesn’t think anything of, quick and easy. However a week later, Sabella’s door rings and she answers to only be told that her husband is dead. Devastated Sabella mourns her husband but is determined to keep the tattered remains of their marriage together: keeping their house and continuing to run Nathan’s beloved car garage.

What she doesn’t know is that Nathan survived, but without consequences or scars. He is offered another role on another team, but he still has to remain dead. Deciding that Sabella would be better off and happier without him, Nathan Malone dies and Noah Blake is born. Six years later, Noah (Nathan) is still serving on the special ops team and finds out that his wife is suddenly in trouble. Torn to protect her but also wanting to stay away, Noah makes a choice to go back to Sabella without telling her who truly is. Yet when he returns home, he isn’t quite sure who his wife is either.

Wild Card is a story about heartbreak, acceptance, resilience and second chance love. Sabella and Noah are one of my top favorite couples EVER. Their chemistry is so static that it leaps off the pages and into your heart and soul; and their chemistry is hot, hot hot! Lora Leigh is VERY talented when it comes to writing erotica, oh my goodness! Sabella and Noah’s story is also one of my favorites because unlike a lot of military marriages, they had a second chance and I think second chance romance is so beautiful. But with Wild Card it is even more beautiful because of the story and the couple. I love this book and the Elite Ops series so much! Stayed tuned for more reviews on this series and you definitely need to add Wild Card to your TBR!

The Cover: This is my first misadventures book and I’m not sure if all their books are like this but I really like how simple it is. I also like the quill, purple coloring and how part of the cover looks like parchment.

Basics: Misadventures with a Professor was released on November 6th 2018 and is 208 pages long. Genre wise Misadventures with a Professor belongs to contemporary romance and standalones.

Description: Zandy Lynch never planned on going to grad school a virgin. So when her professor father finds her a job abroad as a research assistant the summer before she starts her master’s program, she sees her chance. Misadventures is a romantic series of spicy standalone novels, each written or co-written by some of the best names in romance. The stories are scandalous, refreshing, and, of course, incredibly sexy. They’re the perfect bedside read, a ‘quick blush’ for the reader who loves a page-turning romance.
Misadventures with a Professor
Overall thoughts: Misadventures with a Professor is my first Misadventures book so I honestly had no idea what to expect. I am a big fan of Sierra Simone and have read all of her books so I knew writing well, just not the concept of misadventures. Back to Misadventures with a Professor though! This book was a lot like Sierra’s past books but it also wasn’t if that makes sense. Misadventures with a Professor included all of Sierra’s amazing composition, with her signature sexy scenes and characters. The plot was interesting, a student visiting and studying a Professor for the Summer meet one another but before they figure out who the other person is…they sleep with each other. Only to reunite again with shock and eager temptation to come together again. But a professor and student shouldn’t have a relationship like that, right? RIGHT?! Sierra Simone loves a forbidden romance couple, that’s for sure!

I liked Misadventures with a Professor a lot, but after finishing The New Camelot series and especially American King I found this book to be a little bit too tame for me. Her other books have this intensity to them and while I liked Misadventures with a Professor much it was lacking that intensity that I fell so hard for with her other books. This book is still a great forbidden romance read though, and I’m curious to see what Sierra Simone does next.

Overall thoughts: As soon as I finished Dirty English I immediately grabbed Filthy English. Delcan was an amazing alpha hero but I was SUPER excited to read about his no good, trouble making twin Dax. Filthy English focuses on a modern Romeo and Juliet love story which I was a bit concerned with at first because the ending of that Shakespeare love story didn’t end so well, but I can promise you that the ending of ending of Filthy English is nothing like that! Phew!

Dax is the campus playboy, no really people dubbed him the sex lord he’s been around so much. He is the most outgoing, playful twin who is always getting into some sort of trouble. But deep down he knows he hasn’t found the one and while his brother recently found love and happiness, Dax is more lost than ever. Meanwhile Remi just got dumped several days before her wedding and instead of mopping about it decides to take her friend and on her planned honeymoon to England.

While out on the town, she meets and falls (literally) into a gorgeous stranger’s arms. Taken by his attractive looks and silly charismatic wit and smile, she kisses him wanting him to help her forget being dumped at the altar. However when they do, Remi realizes she’s kissing Dax, THEE DAX and is immediately reminded of their together before. They both know each other and she puts him on blast, wanting nothing to do with him. Confused but not wanting to give up on Remi; Dax sets out to figure out why she can’t stand him so much and in the meantime both of them start to fall for one another again. These two’s story is anything but a Shakespeare tragedy, it’s so much more.

I loved Filthy English and while I really also loved Dirty English, I definitely prefer Dax over Delcan. Plus I’m a Romeo and Juliet fan girl at heart so that helps too! I liked everything about this book, from start to finish it was a must read for me and I just loved this book! No negatives whatsoever. Dax and Remi are one of those couples that I don’t think I will get over anything soon and I think I am going to be obsessed and re-reading Dirty English and Filthy English for quite awhile!

The Cover: I really like the cover of Dirty English because there is so much to look at. The model at the front, the British flag as the background and the text all go together very well. However I am a bit annoyed there aren’t really any scar marks on the model’s back and if he supposed to look like Declan, he doesn’t because Declan has scars on his back. I still really like this cover but details matter.

Basics: Dirty English was released on October 10th 2015, published by Little Dove and is 272 pages long. Genre wise Dirty English belongs to contemporary romance, new adult, college romance and standalone.

Overall thoughts: Oh. My. Gosh. Dear Ilsa Madden Mills where have you been my entire life?! How in the world did I miss this book?! I’ve been reading her latest releases I Bet You and I Dare You and when I finished with those I decided I want to look her up on my kindle and I saw that ALL her books are on Kindle Unlimited. I don’t know about you, but Kindle Unlimited is a godsend. You pay $10 a month to Amazon and you get your pick of ten free books that (as long as you have a Kindle Unlimited subscription) you get to keep the books on your kindle as long as you want!

ANYWAY back to Ilsa Madden Mills and her amazing books! I really enjoyed and was super impressed when I finished I Bet You and I Dare You books so I wanted to see what else she had. I picked Dirty English and I. am. COMPLETELY. blown. away. I LOVED Dirty English! I couldn’t put it down! A modern romance story based off Pride and Prejudice? BRILLIANT. One of my favorite parts of this book was going through it and seeing all the references to Pride and Prejudice, I swooned so many times!

Elizabeth Bennett is on a mission to succeed in school and in her life. She lives by a very strict set of rules and doesn’t believe in relationships, only in one night stands. Declan is the campus bad boy, a notorious fighter but has a heart of gold under his tough exterior. Both Elizabeth and Declan have painful pasts but when the two finally come together and meet for the first time, sparks fly. Both might hold what the other needs, but Elizabeth’s past and Declan’s stubbornness threat their budding relationship. Among other things.

Again, I am completely blown away by Dirty English! I LOVED Elizabeth and Declan, their chemistry is firecracker hot and I just adored how they fell for each other. I couldn’t put this book down from start to finish and I immediately got a hold of the next standalone in the series Filthy English featuring Declan’s twin brother, Dax. Even though Dirty English came out a few years ago, it is one of the highlight reads of the year for me!
