Release Blitz & Review: Just Love by Prescott Lane

Just Love, an all-new standalone contemporary romance by Prescott Lane is LIVE!
Just Love Cover.jpeg

The Cover: Just Love‘s cover is so dreamy and gorgeous! I love the soft hues and just everything about this cover is very aesthetically pleasing.

Basics: Just Love by Prescott was released on June 9th 2019 and is a standalone contemporary romance.

Description: There’s two sides to every love story.  The how you fell in love, and the how you fell apart. This is ours. The cardinal rule of friendship is you don’t mess with your friend’s sister. That goes double when she’s his little sister. It was just supposed to be fun.

She wasn’t supposed to end up being the love of my life. And I definitely wasn’t supposed to break her heart. Ainsley is a wedding dress designer.  That should’ve been a warning that she’s a hopeless romantic.  That should’ve clued me in that she believes love conquers all.

But there are some things that love can’t fix.  I’m one of them. She thinks love is the answer. But love is the reason I let her go.

**A stand-alone, contemporary romance.**
Just Love - AN.jpg

Overall thoughts: Just Love by Prescott Lane was such a sweet, swoon worthy contemporary romance read! I love when contemporary romance books are put into not so ideal situations and man oh man the plot of Just Love was NOT an ideal situation, AT ALL. Which as a reader I LOVED because I love drama like that, for the characters? Not so much. Rhett has a crush on his best friend’s sister, his best friend’s YOUNGER sister and he has it bad. Ainsley fresh from college is trying to figure out the rest of the life and is a bit naive, she thinks love is the answer. As stated above in the description of the book, but ah we all should know better that love can’t fix everything. But it sure makes an interesting story for a romance book!

I don’t want to spoil any details, but I really enjoyed Just Love by Prescott Lane. Rhett and Ainsley have a great love story that I think any romance reader would devour and fall hard for. Pros of this book? I ADORED Rhett’s point of view, DEAR ROMANCE AUTHORS: more of your books need MALE point of views! I love Rhett in general, he has some typical annoying male issues (what male character doesn’t?) but I really enjoyed him. Ainsley is great too, I love how passionate and driven she is! Together again these two make one heck of a couple. The only con I had with Just Love is that sometimes I felt like the structure of some of the paragphs didn’t flow together very easily and made it a bit difficult for me to focus on the story and characters. But all in all, Just Love is a very solid contemporary romance book!

Review: Control Freak by Brianna Hale

CONTROL_FREAK_EBOOK
The Cover: I think the cover of Control Freak is gorgeous and sensual, it draws you in as a viewer and it is definitely one of the most steamiest romance covers I’ve ever seen.

Basics: Control Freak was released on June 27th 2019 and is 187 pages long. Genre wise Control Freak belongs to contemporary romance and age gap romance.

Description: Total control. I need it in every aspect of my life. Some would say that makes me an asshole. A freak. But as long as everything’s exactly how I want it, I’m completely flexible.  I’m kidding.  Okay, I’m not kidding.

Lacey needs someone in her life who’s bigger and scarier than her demons, and she wants that man to be me. Her boss. The Viking in a suit.I hope she understands what she’s getting into. This daddy isn’t going to pat her on the head and tell her she’s a good girl for nothing. Especially not when she’s spinning out of control.

**Author’s note: this book includes depictions of eating disorder recovery**
Control Freak.png

Overall thoughts: Control Freak is a classic Brianna Hale age gap romance book. One of my favorite tropes is age gap romance and Hale is very, very good at writing those romances. Control Freak is the story of Stian and Lacey, a museum director and college student who get paired up together when Stian’s assistant quits. Lacey just got out of rehab for an eating disorder and is trying to move past her difficulties with weight and food and onward to more school in the new couple of months. Please note, Control Freak does talk about an eating disorder, if that an issue for you please know that Brianna Hale writes about this in the most kind and informed way. She did a marvelous job and I truly applaud her for bringing this issue to light in this book.

The main struggle between Stian and Lacey is her eating disorder, however they still have to deal with the fact that she is his boss and she is his assistant; and again their age difference. Stian and Lacey’s desire for one another is scorching hot and you can’t help but root for them to be together in my opinion, they need one another.  I think that is one of the underlying tones of Control Freak is the fact that it is okay to ask for help and lean on someone else when you need it most. Control Freak is a romance book but it has beautiful and meaningful undertones to it that I think every reader would relate to and love reading about. A must summer read for 2019!

About the Author: There’s nothing Brianna Hale likes more than a large, stern alpha male with a super-protective and caring streak, and when she’s not writing about them she can usually be found with a book, a cocktail, planning her next trip to a beautiful location or attending the theatre. She believes that pink and empowerment aren’t mutually exclusive, and everyday adventures are possible. Brianna lives in London.

Review: The Reality of Wright and Wrong by Leddy Harper

5.jpg
The Cover: I like the cover of The Reality of Wright and Wrong a lot. I like the filter they used over the cover model too and his expression is quite dreamy and lovely to look at.

Basics: The Reality of Wright and Wrong was released on March 12th, self published by Leddy Harper and is 309 pages long. Genre wise The Reality of Wright and Wrong belongs to contemporary romance.

Description: “Save me and have me, fix me and I’m yours.”

What do you do when you catch your fiancé grinding on another woman? Well, if you’re me, you run off with a sexy, ink-covered tattoo artist who goes by the name Wrong.

Then you marry him after a week.

This isn’t a story of love at first sight—love didn’t come into play until after I had ruined it all. It’s the reality of what is right and what is wrong when it comes to soulmates.
1.jpg
Overall thoughts: The Reality of Wright and Wrong is definitely a home run for Leddy Harper. I really loved this book and I especially enjoyed the pacing. With every chapter I finished there was something exciting and new that was added to the story and I really enjoyed that. I also love a bit of a trainwreck kind of plot too which is essentially what happens in The Reality of Wright and Wrong. Mercy is head over heels for his fiance and when she flies into town to surprise him, it doesn’t end up well.

Completely heartbroken to find her soon to be husband hanging all over another woman, she leaves without a word even going so far to leave her ring behind too. While trying to process what she just saw and her future, she runs into and I mean literally runs into the handsome, tatted and mysterious Brogan. They immediately hit it off right away and their story just takes off.

The Reality of Wright and Wrong is one of those books where you feel like you don’t know what you’re getting into, but once you get hooked, you are HOOKED. It is a great contemporary romance read!

About the Author: Leddy Harper had to use her imagination often as a child. She grew up the only girl in a house full of boys. At the age of fourteen, she decided to use that imagination and wrote her first book, and never stopped.

She often calls writing her therapy, using it as a way to deal with issues through the eyes of her characters. She is now a mother of three girls, leaving her husband as the only man in a house full of females.

The decision to publish her first book was made as a way of showing her children to go after whatever it is they want to. Love what you do and do it well. Most importantly Leddy wanted to teach them what it means to overcome their fears.

Release Blitz & Review: Meet Cute by Helena Hunting

41063454.jpg
The Cover: The Meet Cute cover is bright, very eye catching and I adore it. Yellow is such a happy color and I think it’s a great book cover that I definitely want my shelf soon!

Basics: Meet Cute was released on April 9th 2019 and is 384 pages long. Genre wise Meet Cute belongs to contemporary romance.

Description: Talk about an embarrassing introduction. On her first day of law school, Kailyn ran – quite literally – into the actor she crushed on as a teenager, ending with him sprawled on top of her. Mortified to discover the Daxton Hughes was also a student in her class, her embarrassment over their meet-cute quickly turned into a friendship she never expected. Of course, she never saw his betrayal coming either…

Now, eight years later, Dax is in her office asking for legal advice. Despite her anger, Kailyn can’t help feeling sorry for the devastated man who just became sole guardian to his thirteen-year-old sister. But when her boss gets wind of Kailyn’s new celebrity client, there’s even more at stake than Dax’s custody issues: if she gets Dax to work at their firm, she’ll be promoted to partner.

The more time Kailyn spends with Dax and his sister, the more she starts to feel like a family, and the more she realizes the chemistry they had all those years ago is as fresh as ever. But will they be able to forgive the mistakes of the past, or will one betrayal lead to another?
2.jpg

Overall thoughts: Meet Cute was such a fun and lovely romance book! I thought it was quirky and interesting with that side of ‘oh my gosh this situation is SO awkward but I can’t put this book down!’ I loved it! Helena Hunting is laugh out loud funny and her writing is something I find very relatable.

Dax and Kailyn were a great couple to fall in love with and root for. They had a bumpy road and I really enjoyed reading how they overcame those bumps. I also find their rivalry super entertaining, how they constantly wanted to win and be better over the other is just so relatable. I think everyone at some point in their lives has someone like that, maybe they don’t fall in love with that person but still…that concept of Dax and Kailyn’s relationship really intrigued me. Not to mention their chemistry leaped off the pages!

Meet Cute will definitely one of my favorite contemporary romance books of the year and Helena Hunting should be very proud, this book knocked it out of the park!

Release Blitz & Review: Before We Fell by Stacey Lynn

BWF - AN.jpg
The Cover: I think the cover for Before We Fell is just effortlessly beautiful and very, very romantic. A perfect cover for a great contemporary romance book.

Basics: Before We Fell was released on April 9th 2019 and is a contemporary standalone romance.

Description: For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. The horror that rocked my small town last winter also brought Noah Wilkes into my life. The first almost broke all of us, but the second changed everything.

He stomped into my classroom all angry scowls and rudeness, the big-shot lawyer who was always too good for this small town. But the moment his smile softened toward his niece, it was me that melted.

The heartbreak that brought him back also brought me closer to him, to the man he hides from the world behind his swagger and aggression. The man I couldn’t help but fall for. But life has a way of throwing a curveball when you least expect it, and this one could cost me everything–even him. Turned out, our fates were written in the sky before we ever met—before we fell.

Overall thoughts: Stacey Lynn is the Queen of pulling all my heartstrings! Before We Fell is a sweet contemporary romance about two people coming together after a heartbreaking situation. This type of story about two people connecting after tragedy really is just one of my favorite love stories and Lynn writes a brilliant one.

Simple and effortless Before We Fell is a great contemporary romance read.

Excerpt:
The hall bathroom door opened, consequently stopping the earth’s orbit and flinging me into space for lack of gravity.

Thomas Bane stepped out of the doorway in slow motion, propelled by a cloud of steam that licked at his glistening body like it wanted to taste him. His hair was black, wet, curling and dripping in rivulets down the planes and valleys of his expansive chest and abs and narrow hips. He had that thing, the trough of muscle bracketing his hips that caught sluicing water and carried it in an angle that would eventually reach that unknown terrain beneath his towel. I saw the ghost of that terrain, the long, cylindrical bulge that was substantial enough to clearly state its presence, even through the thick towel.

He smirked, dragging his hand through his wet hair. I salivated, watching droplets of water roll down his forearm and collect on the tip of his erotic elbow.

“You’re up,” he said.

I blinked, not knowing when I’d set my coffee down or how many minutes—hours? years?—had passed in the time I spent ogling his body.

He sauntered into the room like he wasn’t basically naked. I tried unsuccessfully not to stare at his knees, the place where his ropy thigh connected, the angular muscles of his calves, the curve of his ankle, the broad pad of his foot.

He was perfectly proportioned. Michelangelo would have carved him twenty feet tall, and women would have worshipped at his perfect feet.

Gus bounced when he saw Tommy, his toys forgotten. And when Gus took off running, Tommy stopped, eyes widening and hands splayed in front of him.

“Gus, no,” he commanded. To no one’s surprise, Gus did not listen. He barked once, snagged the hem of Tommy’s towel, and whipped it off him in a single tug that exposed every inch of skin on Thomas Bane’s ridiculous body.

Thank God my coffee was already on the counter. I’d have gotten third-degree burns.

For a split second, Tommy was frozen there in all his natural glory, poised to run after his dog, his face drawn and eyes locked on the sweet, disobedient dog. He wasn’t paying any attention to me.

I, however, gave him my full and undivided consideration.

His thighs were a mass of muscle so hard and defined, the tops were planes that came to a notch at his knee and a point where it met his hip. My eyes caught that trough that had before disappeared and followed it where it pointed—straight to the thatch of dark hair and the member nestled there.

The very thick, very long, mostly limp member.

If I stared at it a second longer, I was going to faint—my vision was already dim, my pulse pumping so hard, I could feel it in my neck, at the back of which a cold sweat had broken.

But he shifted to run after Gus, who was galloping away, trailing the towel behind him.

“Dammit, Gus! Gimme that!”

Then it was the back of him I saw, his hair, the streaming water rolling down all the curves of his shoulders, his back, the valley of his spine, and down to the most perfect ass I’d ever seen in real life.

Well, the only ass I’d ever seen in real life that wasn’t my own, and even that I couldn’t get a good look at without a mirror.

Seriously, that ass. That perfectly sculpted ass, round and tight and curved in the sides, shifting from one side to the other as he ran after the damn dog. My gaze caught a tattoo on one ass cheek, and I squinted at it, trying to make it out.

Tommy bent to snag the end of the towel—I caught sight of his sack and almost dissolved through the floor in an acidic puddle of embarrassment—but when he pulled, Gus spun around, ass in the air and tail wagging as he growled, pulling back.

A string of obscenities left Tommy’s mouth, but I was still gaping and staring at his ass. I realized that I was laughing. It sounded like someone else in a different room.

I wondered absently if this was how it felt to have a stroke.

Staci has been a lot of things up to this point in her life — a graphic designer, an entrepreneur, a seamstress, a clothing and handbag designer, a waitress. Can’t forget that. She’s also been a mom, with three little girls who are sure to grow up to break a number of hearts. She’s been a wife, though she’s certainly not the cleanest, or the best cook. She’s also super, duper fun at a party, especially if she’s been drinking whiskey.

Review: One Tough Cowboy by Lora Leigh & Veronica Chadwick

39863375
The Cover: One Tough Cowboy‘s cover is simple and to the point: an attractive, male brooding cowboy looking off in the distance. A little too much on the nose for me but I like it and the simplicity of it.

Basics: One Tough Cowboy was released on January 29th, 2019, published by St. Martin’s Paperbacks and is 304 pages long. Genre wise One Tough Cowboy belongs to contemporary romance, second chance romance and suspense.

Description: LAW AND ORDER.For as long as Samantha can remember, Hunter—a man as strong as steel, with a heart of gold—has been her hero. It came as no surprise to Samantha when she found out that the ranch-hardened cowboy who always protected her from bullies went on to become the town’s sheriff. What does surprise her is how incredibly hot he still is. And how much she still wants him…

PRIDE AND PASSION. And, lo and behold, Hunter still has feelings for Samantha. The long-smoldering heat of their innocent flirtation has grown into a full-raging fire. But when tragedy strikes, and their small-town community is shattered, Hunter vows to do everything he can to keep his childhood sweetheart safe. But can Samantha trust that Hunter has her best interests at heart…and that, after all these years, his love is true?

Overall thoughts: One Tough Cowboy is a perfect example of a typical Lora Leigh book with new, touches from a new author I have never read before Veronica Chadwick. Leigh is one of the best romance authors in the romance book world, she weaves beautiful stories together and somehow adds other elements to her stories and characters that keep me very invested.

A lot of contemporary romance books tend to focus just on the romance and relationships of the couple in the book, which is fine for myself and many other readers but that doesn’t always keep everyone interested. Don’t get me wrong I like to read about a couple falling for one another and everything in between that occurs but it can become repetitive and dull. Leigh shines mainly because she has the ability to not only include romance within her books but also keep her readers hanging off each page.

One Tough Cowboy is the story of Sam Ryder and Hunter Steele, two people who met at the wrong place time, go their separate ways but years later reunite under different circumstances. Sam is older, more mature and settled, she had no clue that Hunter would be so attractive to her now considering he’s older and different than the old Hunter she used to know.

When sudden deaths threaten the hometown they know and love they find themselves trying to solve the murders while also dealing with their reawakened attraction for one another. One Tough Cowboy by Lora Leigh and Veronica Chadwick is a great contemporary romance and suspense book that will leap off the page and right into your heart and bookshelf, One Tough Cowboy is a must read!

Review: Wild Card by Lora Leigh

51FV4l3zlLL.jpg
The Cover: Wild Card‘s cover is perfect for the story and I really like the fact that the dog tags represent Noah. I also really like the colors of the this cover and everything just looks good and works together well.

Basics: Wild Card was released on August 26th 2008, published by  St. Martin’s Paperbacks and is 430 pages long. Genre wise Wild Card belongs to romance, contemporary romance, erotica and military romance.

Description: It was supposed to be simple. All Navy SEAL Nathan Malone had to do was rescue three young girls from a Colombia drug cartel, then allow himself to be captured just long enough to draw out a government spy. That was before his mission went disastrously wrong…and before his wife, Bella, was told that Nathan was never coming home.

Bella’s mourned her husband’s death for three long years. But she has no idea he’s still alive. Forced to assume a new identity, the man Nathan was is now dead. If he can get back to his wife, can he keep the secret of who he really is…even as desire threatens to consume them? And as danger threatens to tear Bella from Nathan’s arms once more?
Wild Card.jpg
Overall thoughts: I found Wild Card on a beach trip in 2013 and I’ve been a follower of Lora Leigh ever since. I’ve read Wild Card so many times (especially at the beach) that the pages have water marks on them. Which was funny because originally I wasn’t too keen on Wild Card at first because as a military wife it can be a bit difficult reading anything military related, especially a military romance. Some authors do a lot of research beforehand, some don’t but many fail to capture the essence of someone in the military and their relationship. Lora Leigh is one of the authors that actually does a very good job of describing the hardships of being in the military and being married/with someone in the military and for that I am very grateful.

But enough about me! Wild Card is about Nathan and Sabella Malone, a happily married and deeply in love one another couple who are part of the Navy Seals. Nathan takes a mission that he doesn’t think anything of, quick and easy. However a week later, Sabella’s door rings and she answers to only be told that her husband is dead. Devastated Sabella mourns her husband but is determined to keep the tattered remains of their marriage together: keeping their house and continuing to run Nathan’s beloved car garage.

What she doesn’t know is that Nathan survived, but without consequences or scars. He is offered another role on another team, but he still has to remain dead. Deciding that Sabella would be better off and happier without him, Nathan Malone dies and Noah Blake is born. Six years later, Noah (Nathan) is still serving on the special ops team and finds out that his wife is suddenly in trouble. Torn to protect her but also wanting to stay away, Noah makes a choice to go back to Sabella without telling her who truly is. Yet when he returns home, he isn’t quite sure who his wife is either.

Wild Card is a story about heartbreak, acceptance, resilience and second chance love. Sabella and Noah are one of my top favorite couples EVER. Their chemistry is so static that it leaps off the pages and into your heart and soul; and their chemistry is hot, hot hot! Lora Leigh is VERY talented when it comes to writing erotica, oh my goodness!  Sabella and Noah’s story is also one of my favorites because unlike a lot of military marriages, they had a second chance and I think second chance romance is so beautiful. But with Wild Card it is even more beautiful because of the story and the couple. I love this book and the Elite Ops series so much! Stayed tuned for more reviews on this series and you definitely need to add Wild Card to your TBR!

Review: Only You by Marie Landry

41578092.jpgThe Cover: I think the cover of Only You is very pretty and I like the differences in font, however I wish we could see more of the couple’s face.

Basics: Only You was released on November 13th 2018 and is available for FREE through the Kindle Unlimited program. Genre wise Only You belongs to contemporary romance.

Description: Ivy’s new boss is sexy, Scottish…and comes with an expiration date.

When Ivy reluctantly takes a new part-time job, it’s a means to an end. Doing this favor for her pain-in-the-neck roommate means Ivy can have her apartment to herself again much sooner. The last thing she expects is Hugh—the hot Scot who just happens to be her new boss—asking her out on a date. And then another. And another.

Something about Hugh makes Ivy want to let her guard down and open up, which would be perfect if he wasn’t possibly returning to Scotland in a matter of weeks. But maybe that doesn’t matter. Maybe Ivy can learn to live in the moment and have a little fun, even if it means setting herself up for heartache later.

ONLY YOU is a standalone contemporary romance about taking chances, unexpected friendships, and holding on to the things—and people—that matter most.

Overall thoughts: Only You was a very heart-warming, contemporary romance read. A nice book to curl up with as the temperatures go down and the holidays start to creep upon us for sure. Ivy is currently in an okay job but is stable and somewhat happy about her life, except for the distraction of her roommate who keeps getting fired from each and every job. She tries to help Celia the best she can, but it’s hard when you’re basically mothering a younger woman down on luck.

The holiday season is fast approaching in Only You and Celia finds a job working at Christmas village. Snow, Elves, Santa, twinkle lights and hot cocoa…the works. However Celia only somehow gets Ivy hired working at thee Christmas village too…as an elf. Annoyed at first but wanting to help support her friend, Ivy starts working at the Christmas village and finds out that she actually enjoy it. Meanwhile she’s trying to ignore the sudden interest in her fellow co-worker who plays Santa; however, he isn’t just a co-worker or Santa, he’s the boss of the Christmas village. Hugh and Ivy start to hang out and get to know each other, with each passing day getting closer. However just like Christmas, nothing can last forever and Ivy isn’t sure if she can keep her sexy, Scottish boss.

I really enjoyed Only You, but I did struggle a bit with it for a few reasons. One, while I enjoy contemporary romance and slice of life romance books, I honestly felt like the first half of the book was SO slow. So slow. While the story took awhile to get into it was good, but just so slow at first and I really, really struggled with that. My other issue and I honestly cannot believe I am writing this right now, was that I feel like there wasn’t enough intimate moments between Ivy and Hugh. I’m reading a romance book, I want romance and a lot of it!

Besides that Only You was a great curl up on a quiet day kind of read, perfect for the time of year and Landry shows great promise as a romance author.

About the Author: Marie Landry’s life revolves around books; when she’s not writing them, she’s reading them, taking pictures of them for bookstagram, or blogging about them. An avid reader from a young age, she loves getting lost in characters’ worlds, whether they’re of her own making or someone else’s. She particularly loves coming-of-age stories with as much of an emphasis on self-discovery as on romance…but don’t leave out the romance!

When not doing bookish things, Marie can be found daydreaming (in general, but often about traveling through Europe), binge-watching shows on Netflix, and taking photographs. She lives in a cozy apartment in Ontario, Canada with the best roommate ever, and only sometimes imagines it’s actually a flat in London.
