Monthly Series Mention: The Stage Dive Series by Kylie Scott

Sometimes I like to pick out competed series because let’s be honest, no one likes waiting around for books! So I thought why not review a completed series? I used to do this all the time when my blog was on blogger instead of wordpress but I’m bringing it back! For May I am choosing the Stage Dive series by the fabulous Kylie Scott! I am so excited to share this series with you guys! It is one of my absolute favorite series with characters and stories that I adore. Kylie is incredibly funny, the kind of funny that makes you laugh out loud days later after finishing one of her books. Something else that I really admire about Kylie’s writing is the fact that she has diverse female heroines, especially with their looks. Newsflash, not every woman in this world is size two and that is something that is evident in the Stage Dive series which I really appreciate. I love all of the stories, characters in this series and speaking of characters, the chemistry between these characters in this series,!! Oh my goodness you guys! I can guarantee you are going to fall head over heels just like I did! So let’s dive in!

The Cover: The Stage Dive series has some of my favorite covers EVER. I tend to either love or hate a cover, there is no in between and I’m very picky when it comes to book covers. Frankly, sometimes people only buy books based on covers so I think it’s important for authors nowadays to have kick ass covers that relate to their story and characters. The Stage Dive series does this perfectly; each book represents different members of the band Stage Dive, Lick represents David (the guitarist), Play represents Mal(the drummer), Lead represents Jimmy(the singer) and Deep represents Ben(the bassiest). My favorite cover is Play because I love Mal and the story within Play very much. A+ covers guys!

Basics: The Stage Dive series is a total of four books, usually between 300 and 200 pages long. Lick is the first book, followed by Play, then Lead and ending with Deep. The books were published between November 2013 and March 2015. They were published by St. Martin’s Griffin. Genre wise The Stage Dive series belongs to contemporary romance.

***Note: I’m only going to post the description of Lick, all of the characters in each other (but especially in Lick) are all intertwined so I don’t want to spoil anything for future readers! ***

Overall thoughts: The Stage Dive series is such a fun series full of bad situations with bad pasts and history, but it’s lovely and interesting to read about how hot rocker male’s fall in love fighting falling in love or just falling in love and overcoming their demons and hardships. Kylie Scott writes beautifully, her writing is laugh out loud funny and the romance is perfect and steamy. I think everyone can relate to several situations and characters in this series which is one of the reasons why I love it so much, I felt connected to the books. These books will have a piece of my heart forever and I hope the Stage Dive series touches you the way it has touched me.

Review: Dirty by Kylie Scott

I am currently in the path of Hurricane Matthew and since it hasn’t hit yet I thought it would be the perfect time to get some reading done and write up some reviews! The first book I chose to read for Hurricane Matthew was Dirty by Kylie Scott. I am a big, big fan of Kylie Scott, I fell in love with both her Stage Dive series and her Flesh series. So I had big expectations for her new series and first book, Dirty. The great thing about her Dive Bar series is that it’s based in the same world as the Stage Dive series but with different characters and different scenarios. You can read the Dive Bar series as a standalone but I highly recommend reading the Stage Dive series as well. But without further ago, let’s dive in this review!

Cover: I really find myself drawn to Scott’s covers because she has a certain theme with them, usually a handsome gentleman with only half of his face showing. I really like this concept for a a book cover because the guy doesn’t have a face, so it’s easier for you as the reader to visualize what the guy on the cover looks like and you can make it your own! Which is especially great because when it comes to reading everyone has different ideas of what certain characters in books look like in their own heads. I also like the fact that a martini glass is also featured because it fits in with the story. A+ for the cover.

Basics: Dirty was released on April 19th, 2016, is 289 pages long and is published by St. Martin’s Griffin. Genre wise Dirty belongs to contemporary romance.

Overall thoughts: I really enjoyed this book! Kylie Scott just has this way of drawing you in with her humor and also using certain relatable issues to tug on your heartstrings. In every book I have read of Scott’s, I find myself empathetic to at least one or more of her characters. When you can see yourself going through the same issue a character is going through in a book, you feel yourself fusing to the story and characters so much. There’s nothing better than falling in love with a book, one that you can especially relate to. The connection between Vaughn and Lydia was very refreshing; the way they met was funny and I really enjoyed how both of them were in difficult situations but leaned on each other to get through those difficult situations, The plot was really well done too; I think it’s very hard to keep readers interesting when it comes a nonfiction romance and Scott did a really fantastic job of keeping me intrigued. Everyone comes from somewhere, whether growing up in a small town or big city, there’s that feeling of home and being surrounded by the ones you love. In most cases when people think about going home that means seeing family and old friends, a theme that plays a big party in Dirty. Both good and drama filled, but that’s what makes it interesting right? I think my only complaint of this book would be the length, I loved it so much that I wish it was just a little bit longer! But don’t we all feel that way when we really enjoy a book? I’m looking forward to learning more about the crew of Coeur d’Alene and seeing how each of their stories pans out. Bring on more of the Dive Bar series!

I actually finished my ARC’s for the first half of May, CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?! It’s a miracle! But seriously I haven’t done that in a very long time so it’s a huge accomplishment, who knows what my schedule will like for the rest of the month but I have a feeling that I will be drowning in ARC’S. No complaints though, but more ARC’s = less time for me to pick out my own books to review. So lately I’ve been trying to catch up with my TBR list and several books I’ve had on hold for Kindle Unlimited.

But the author I’ve been reading for the past few week or so? She has completely blown me away and it’s safe to say that Laura Thalassa has taken over my life. I stumbled upon her book, Pestilence (#1) of The Four Horsemen Series on Kindle Unlimited and I borrowed it and I COULDN’T PUT IT DOWN. I was seriously hooked and honestly? I haven’t been hooked like that on a book in a very long time. I finished Pestilence and found out her other books are also on Kindle Unlimited.

So I borrowed her other series, The Fallen World series and again…I devoured all three books within three days. Again, I was completely blown away! She has several other series and I want to start them but I know I have ARC’s coming up! But Laura Thalassa definitely has me obsessed and I desperately need the second book The Four Horsemen Series, War right meow! I have several ARC’s coming up this week and the next so I don’t know how much free time I’ll have but I am definitely going to keep my eye on Kindle Unlimited because there have been some really great books on there! I’ve used Kindle Unlimited since I’ve owned a kindle but the Kindle Unlimited program has definitely improved in past years, especially during the past few months. $10 a month for ten free books? ARC Review: Filthy Gods by R. Scarlett

The Cover: This cover is EVERYTHING. It is seriously one of the best covers I have ever seen; it’s pleasing to the eye, the black and gold font is gorgeous and honestly I just love it.

Basics: Filthy Gods was released on May 15th, 2018 and is 168 pages long. Genre wise Filthy Gods belongs to novella, contemporary romance and standalone.

Description: Young. Wealthy. Elite. Attractive. The gentlemen’s secret society at Yale was filled with them. And Nathaniel Radcliffe, the bane of my existence, was one of them.

Filthy Gods.jpg Overall thoughts: Filthy Gods was my first R. Scarlett experience and oh my GOSH. I was completely blown away and R. Scarlett has one of the best romance books of 2018. Yes, I went there, I was THAT impressed. One of my favorite tropes when it comes to reading and especially in the romance world is the whole enemy to lovers to something more and Filthy Gods is basically centered around that trope, but delivers and then some.

Filthy Gods is actually a prequel novella and is a teaser for what the rest of the Filthy Gods series so it was really interesting to read. It talks about these four men who are basically Gods that rule this society. Juliette is just trying to keep her life together and her college career in tact. She may attending one of the best colleges in the world and holds one of the top GPAs but she’s not what she seems. Much to Juliette’s chagrin, Nathaniel (one of the members of the Gods) is pretty much hellbent on ruining her life. First it was in class, now in her social and work life. They strike up a deal between them for the summer and although they may seem like they absolutely hate one another, the chemistry they create is off the freaking charts.

Filthy Gods was sexy, well written, with heartfelt characters and intriguing plot that just made me gobble it down. I didn’t want to stop reading and when I finished I was very, very sad because I didn’t want it to end! R. Scarlett is an author to be on the lookout for because this book and the rest of this series has the possibility of burning down the whole romance genre book world. Look out world, here come the Filthy Gods.

Review: Pestilence The Four Horsemen by Laura Thalassa

The Cover: I was skimming through kindle unlimited when I saw this cover and it immediately caught my eye. This cover is beautiful and I absolutely LOVE how it shows Pestilence and Sara; not a lot of books do that or their covers don’t match their books and I am so happy that the cover of Pestilence does this. It will probably be one of my favorite covers of 2018, A+.

Basics: Pestilence was released on March 20th 2018 and is 383 pages long. Genre wise Pestilence belongs to fantasy, romance, new adult, science fiction and fantasy.

Description: They came to earth—Pestilence, War, Famine, Death—four horsemen riding their screaming steeds, racing to the corners of the world. Four horsemen with the power to destroy all of humanity. They came to earth, and they came to end us all.

Now the horseman, very much alive and very pissed off, has taken her prisoner, and he’s eager to make her suffer. Only, the longer she’s with him, the more uncertain she is about his true feelings towards her … and hers towards him.
And now, well, Sara might still be able to save the world, but in order to do so, she’ll have to sacrifice her heart in the process.
Overall thoughts: So when I found this book I was scrolling through the Kindle Unlimited section and I saw the cover and it immediately caught my eye. I am one of those people who are drawn to books by their cover, cliche and wrong I know but it’s how I’ve found some of the most wonderful books. I borrowed Pestilence from the Kindle Unlimited program and started to read. Honestly I had my doubts, it’s a fantasy book based on a woman falling in love with one of the four horsemen that are supposed to help end our world for crying out loud. But man…I was SO WRONG. Pestilence is one of the best romance, Mature YA, fantasy, new adult, science fiction and fantasy books of all year, if not of all time. Yes, I went there.

The world is ending and everyone is trying to find a way to stop it, which unfortunately means killing the being responsible for spreading the plague around the world. Sara Burns is a firefighter and just wants to help people in any way she can which leads her to staying behind to try and kill the Horseman as he travels into town. However when she tries to kill Pestilence, not everything goes to plan and Sara finds her a prisoner of one of the four horsemen of the apocalypse instead. But is there more to this harbinger than meets the eye? Sara is hell bent on finding out, willinging to do whatever it takes to save mankind and her family.

Pestilence and Sara start off as a bit irritating to read about because of their situation but as the book continues you just can’t help but swoon and root for them and their slow burning relationship. Sara is smart, is definitely not a damsel and has a sass that could knock the socks off anyone who tries to cut her down. Pestilence is frustratingly gorgeous and otherworldly, but I really loved watching transform from this conqueror and bringer of plague/hater of humans into this person growing into something wonderful but questioning everything around him. In a sense being a human being because lord knows our emotions make us question everything. As a couple I love Pestilence and Sara together and their attraction sizzles off the page.

Laura Thalassa is an amazing writer, she is funny and just has this beautiful way of transporting you into her book so effortlessly. Pestilence was enthralling from start to finish and I am super excited for the future books in this series!
