Sierra Simone has a new release American King coming out next week so in honor of that I thought I would review one of Summer 2017’s hottest releases. Both Sierra and Laurelin are amazing writers and I really love their books. Together they make an incredible team and I’m really excited to share my thoughts on Hot Cop with you guys!

The Cover: I like this cover a lot! I think it’s okay, it fits the story of the book perfectly and the model is very attractive. I like how his eyes are covered by glasses too giving off that ‘hot cop’ vibe. B+

Basics: Hot Cop was released on June 13th 2017 and is 288 pages long. Genre wise Hot Cop belongs to contemporary romance and cop romance.

Description:

Overall thoughts: Sierra Simone and Laurelin Paige are pure magic together, no seriously…they are literally the Disney version duo of the romance book world. Simone and Paige are fantastic writers, they create relatable and really attractive characters that make you root for them and covert them at the same time. Hot Cop is a great, funny and very steamy read. Livia Ward is a character that I think every person can relate to because let’s be honest, we all have a point in our lives where we are scared of how old we are getting or we fear we haven’t done enough in our lives. Suddenly the age you are about to become looms over your head and any age older than what you are is a death sentence.

I am about to turn twenty six on Saturday and I can relate so hard to Livia. But her situation is a little bit different because she fears she’s getting too old to have a child. Enter Mr. Hot Cop himself Chase Kelly. At first he really just wants to bed Livia and move on with his Hot Cop ways but when he hears her proposal, a contract to conceive a baby with her suddenly everything changes. These two have great chemistry, they are funny and they will make your toes curl when you read about them.

Hot Cop was one of my favorite summer reads and it’s a fantastic read if you’re into a story about two people clumsily falling in love and trying to make a baby at the same time while navigating everything else going around them. Hot Cop is currently on sale for $0.99 and is free to read if you’re part of the Kindle Unlimited program which I highly recommend doing! Happy Reading!

Review: Silenced by Leddy Harper

The Cover: Who doesn’t love a hot guy with a man bun? Add that to a book cover and BAM! You have one heck of a hot cover! Hotness of the male cover model aside, I love the trees and the colors of Silenced so much and I think it fits the book’s story and I just love the vibe. But honestly I love everything about this book so expect lots of gushing. Sorry not sorry. A++++

Basics: Silenced was released on February 20th 2017, is part of the Kindle Unlimited Program and is 268 pages long. Genre wise Silenced belongs to contemporary romance and drama.

Overall thoughts: I loved Silenced, seriously; like I loved it with my entire heart and soul. It’s story and characters have touched me in a way that will stay with me forever and honestly Silenced might become my top book of 2017. Leddy Harper where have you been all my life?! Anyway. enough of my gushing! So it’s very rare with romance books (at least the one’s I’ve read) to show the main characters younger, like child young. Killian and Rylee met one another when they were young, grew up together, healed together and fell in love because of that.

It’s always hard for me to read about a character’s bad past; whether something happened to them, they’ve lost a loved one or they’ve been through some traumatic event…it’s always, ALWAYS so hard to read about because I honestly feel their pain. I’m very emphatic even when it comes to fictional characters and Killian’s story and beginning absolutely wrecked me. Although Silenced is a work of fiction, the entire time I thought it was real because people abusing drugs and doing horrible things is such a issue today. I love Killian, I think he will be on my top five favorite males of 2017 because he loves Rylee with all of his being. From childhood to adulthood which is so rare nowadays and I thought it was such a neat touch that Harper included that in this story.

The love and chemistry between Rylee and Killian is electric and beautiful, I really did love reading about them as kids just learning how to love and lean on one another. Silenced is seriously one of my favorite books of the year and Leddy Harper has my support and love for the rest of my life. This book seriously rocked my world and shook my core.

About the Author: Leddy Harper had to use her imagination often as a child. She grew up the only girl in a house full of boys. At the age of fourteen, she decided to use that imagination and wrote her first book, and never stopped.

She often calls writing her therapy, using it as a way to deal with issues through the eyes of her characters. She is now a mother of three girls, leaving her husband as the only man in a house full of females.

The decision to publish her first book was made as a way of showing her children to go after whatever it is they want to. Love what you do and do it well. Most importantly Leddy wanted to teach them what it means to overcome their fears.

Overall thoughts: I was really happy and a bit shocked at how much I enjoyed Filthy Player! I am not a big sports (especially football) person so I didn’t know what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised. Stacey Lynn is seriously one of the best authors to mix real life issues with contemporary romance. I read so many romance books and although I enjoy and love them…a lot of what happens in those books doesn’t happen in real life. That is okay because that’s the whole point of reading, to forget real life and dream for a bit, but it’s also nice to read something and know that what’s going on in the book is real life.

Paige is a great leading lady, she’s driven, loyal and hardworking woman who just wants to make ends meet and take care of her Dad. She’s given up a lot for her Dad but she doesn’t mind taking care of him and I really just adored her for being so protective over her dad. Beau is perfection, he is literally every woman’s dreamboat in one way or another. Some people like cocky, silly men while others like the rich, athletically fit men and there are some readers who just want to read about a character that is caring and understanding. Well…Beaux is a combination of those three traits.

Paige and Beaux have great chemistry and I really enjoyed reading about them. Paige had so many responsibility and it was hard for her to really let herself have fun or settle down. Beaux wanted that for her and I just really liked the book’s flow of their relationship and how he really tried to make things work between them.

Filthy Player has seriously been one of my favorite reads for the end of 2017 and I’m excited to read the rest of the Rough Riders series!

“Is that a compliment?”

“I suppose it might be.” Her lips twisted like she didn’t want to admit it. I couldn’t stop from chuckling. Why did this woman dislike me? Instead of it turning me off, I was curious.

“Okay, then, how about this. You take care of my truck, I’ll do your favor, and then tonight, you let me take you out for dinner.”

“You don’t even know what the favor is.”

“Doesn’t matter. I’ll still do it, and I still want you across the table from me so I can keep proving how much of a non-asshole I am.”

“You’re sort of pushy, you know that?”

“I prefer ‘determined’ when I see something I want.” I flicked my hand out. “What’s the favor?”

“She glanced toward the door to the garage and sighed again. “My dad’s a fan—”

“Just your dad?” I teased.

She huffed, lips pressed into a pout and continued, ignoring me. “It’s just, I was wondering, it doesn’t have to be much, nothing big at all…but could you autograph—”

“Done.” We had boatloads of crap in the marketing department I could grab. I’d take care of it and blow her mind with my generosity. And it wasn’t just because I tried to do everything I could for fans, but because she was pretty when she blushed.

Even prettier as her eyes went soft when she mentioned her dad.

Spectacular as she gritted out her favor like asking for something from someone was worse than getting teeth pulled without Novocain.

“Yeah?” she asked. “That’d be really great. But dinner, I don’t know.”

The pretty little liar. Her blush told me she wanted it. “Tonight, whenever. You make the call, and it’s not payback for the favor or you fixing my truck. I just want to share a meal with you.”

“Why? Because you want in my pants?”

Her tone was snippy and her shoulders tightened. She’d handed me a loaded gun and hell if I was going to shoot myself with it.

I closed the five feet of space between us, making her step backward until she was almost plastered to my truck.

“I do want in your pants, Paige. Any American male who watches you for longer than two seconds probably wants the same. And I’ll take my time getting there if I have to, so I’m not going to be a dick and lie, and I’m not being a dick by being honest. I’m just honest. But dinner is because you’re pretty, and for some reason I can’t explain, I want to know why you look so damn exhausted, why you just asking me for help made you look like you want to puke, and why you did it anyway. So basically, I just want to talk to you. Get to know you. I’m interested and I’m not going to hide that either. It’s not my style.”

“Wow.” Her cheeks had turned pink while I was talking and by the time I was done, her lips were parted. “That’s a lot to discuss at dinner.”

“Then we’ll tack on drinks and dessert at the end.”

Excerpt: Trent’s gaze cut to mine and stopped when his grays met my blues. The fading noise of Vicious barking at people to move along, and my father finally letting go of my arm to move toward Jaime and Dean—probably trying to gain both allies and sympathy—died down.

“I don’t like you,” Rexroth whispered under his breath, his voice harsh.

“I never asked you to.” I shrugged.

“You won’t be working here.” His arm brushed my shoulder, but I didn’t think it was by accident. I let loose a sugary smile, scanning his face and torso for no other reason other than to taunt him. “Good, you’ll be doing me a favor. My father is the one forcing me to work here. He’s pissed I turned down five Ivy League colleges. Remind me, Mr. Rexroth—which top tier university did you attend for your degree?”

The low blow was supposed to retrieve some of my lost dignity, but bile burned my throat, shotgunned from my stomach. Trent Rexroth was known in Todos Santos as an exhilarating success story, rising from the gutters of San Diego. He went to a shitty state college that accepted even the illiterate, working as a janitor on campus after hours. Those were given facts he’d recited himself in an interview for Forbes.

Had I really just tried to make him feel less worthy because he wasn’t born with a silver spoon in his mouth? It made me sicker than wearing my mother’s designer garbs.

Trent smiled, leaning into my body, into my soul. His smirk was more frightening than any scowl, frown, or grimace I’d ever seen. It threatened to tear me apart and sew me back together however he pleased.

“Edie.” His lips were dangerously close to my ear. A delicious shiver moved down my spine. Something warm rolled inside of me, begging to unknot and flower into an orgasm. What was happening, and why the hell was it happening? “If you know what’s best for you, you will turn around and leave right now.”

I elevated my head to meet his gaze and showed him my version of a grin. I was born and raised in a world of intimidating rich men, and I’d be damned if I go down like my mother—addicted to xanax, Gucci, and a man who paraded her on his arm for a short, glorious decade before keeping her solely for public appearances.

“I think I’m going to go find my desk now. I’d wish you a good day, Mr. Rexroth, but I think that ship has sailed. You’re a miserable man. Oh, and one for the road.” I fished for a Nature Valley bar in my mother’s purse and plastered it to his hard, muscled chest. My heart slammed into my neck, fluttering like a caged bird.

I hurried after my father as he glided down the vast, golden-hued hallway, not daring to look back. Knowing I’d started a war and arrived unequipped. But I also knew something else that gave me a surfer’s rush—if I could slam the final nail in my employment coffin and make Rexroth vote against me, I’d be off the hook.

I had just the plan for it. All I had to do was act like a brat. Game on.
