Review: Deep by Kylie Scott

Deep.jpg
The CoverI love this cover! I picture Ben with more of a beard but besides that, it truly shows Ben’s spirit and I love it. I also think it’s one of the most colorful book covers I have ever seen too, there’s just something about the color scheme of the tattoos and the bass that just make it lovely to look at.

Basics: Deep was released on March 31st 2015, published by St. Martin’s Griffin, book #4 in the Stage Dive series and is 273 pages long. Genre wise Deep belongs to contemporary romance, music romance and new adult.

Description: One by one, the members of Stage Dive are falling in love. David, Mal, and Jimmy have all taken the plunge, and now it’s Ben’s turn—only he refuses to fall into that trap. The sexy bassist enjoys his no-strings-attached lifestyle. But when Ben is forced to keep the one girl he’s always had a weakness for out of trouble in Sin City, he quickly learns that what happens in Vegas, doesn’t always stay there.

Overall thoughts: I can’t believe I’m on my last review for the Stage Dive series! I read these books starting WAY back in 2013 and gah! I LOVE them! It’s one of the series where I wish there were ten more books! We’ve all read about how each of the Stage Dive members fell in love, starting with hurting, emotional talented David, to crazy, manic, funny Mal followed by troubled, brooding, sexy as sin Jimmy. All that’s left is Ben, the bass player. This review is going to get very interesting because I have a love-hate relationship with dear old Benny boy. But first…let’s discuss some background for Deep!

Ben is the last single man standing of Stage Dive, he’s not looking for a relationship and he’s definitely not interested in love. He’s happy for his bandmates but definitely doesn’t want to catch the lovebug that apparently has boarded the Stage Dive bus. Lizzie is the younger sister of Anne, who recently got together with Mal (from book two, Play and is the drummer of Stage Dive) and is about to get married to him.

Ben and Lizzie met each other while hanging out with the other Stage Dive members and eventually became friends, chatting, even exchanging numbers and texting. This is where the trouble starts. They instantly have a connection, one that goes beyond being “friends” and eventually that connection caves into them having a one night stand together while in Vegas. Both of them were attending Mal and Anne’s wedding. Of course this leads to drum roll please….! A pregnancy.

Anne is super young, going to college for psychology young and finds herself an expectant mother. Sure it changes her plans for going to school and such, but she wants to keep the baby and be the mother she never had. Ben wants to make things right also, inviting her to come on tour with them and honestly…mayhem ensues. They may of made a baby together but that doesn’t mean they are together, especially with Ben’s commitment issues. No one said falling in love with a rockstar was easy!

Deep is interesting because each member has their own set of issues which I thought were valid, sincere issues that I felt for. However…when it comes to Ben’s “issue” which in this case is commitment…it literally made me want to throw the book! Ben is the sexy rocker, yes…but as soon as he started this whole nonsense of not wanting to be with Lizzie, but I’ll help with the baby stuff? I wanted to throw the book. The rocky waters between them settle eventually, but it was too little too late for me in the book and definitely for Ben.

THAT being said, I loved Deep even though Ben drove me crazy. Lizzie and his relationship is a genuine one that I’m sure many couples face today and I’m really glad it was brought up. I wish it was a little longer because it is the last book in this series but overall I’m happy with the ending and how Deep included the other bandmates and their relationships as well. I love the Stage Dive series so much and if you love a music romance genre kind of story, this book and series is definitely for you!

Review: Lead by Kylie Scott

Lead.jpg

The Cover: Lead’s cover is the epitome of Jimmy; with the way the cover model is sitting, his lips, the way he’s holding the microphone it’s completely spot on and perfect! Love it!

Basics: Lead was released on July 29th 2014, published by St. Martin’s Griffin, book #3 in the Stage Dive series and is 321 pages long. Genre wise Lead belongs to contemporary romance, music romance and new adult.

Description: Can rock n’ roll’s most notorious bad boy be tamed by love?

As the lead singer of Stage Dive, Jimmy is used to getting whatever he wants, whenever he wants it-now he’s caught up in a life of hard partying and fast women. When a PR disaster serves as a wake-up call and lands him in rehab, he finds himself with Lena, a new assistant hired to keep him out of trouble.

Lena’s not willing to take any crap from her sexy boss and is determined to keep their relationship completely professional, despite their sizzling chemistry. But when Jimmy pushes her too far, he just might lose the best thing that’s ever happened to him. Can he convince his stubborn assistant to risk it all and let her heart take the lead?
Lead.jpg

Overall thoughts: Lead is such a good book! The entire Stage Dive series is fabulous and I think what I love most about it is that each book focuses on different couples with different dynamics, issues and personalities but works so well as a cohesive unit and series. Lead focuses on David’s (the leading man of Lick’s book) brother Jimmy Ferris, who recently just finished a stint in rehab and Lena, the secretary turned baby sitter for Jimmy as he embarks on fighting his addiction battle.

Jimmy has this quiet type of temper about him, is super stubborn and can be super frustrating at times but he is definitely the guy your mother warns you to stay away from in High School. He is the complete heartthrob package, leading singer of Stage Dive but suffers from substance abuse and some family troubles. Lena…where do I even begin to describe Lena? I adore her. She’s sassy with a I don’t care attitude stacked with a perseverance that doesn’t quit. Together Jimmy and Lena make quite a pair and they are literally what each other needs.

Lead is a story about two people trying to get away from their personal problems, not looking for a relationship but sort of end up falling each other and become exactly what the other person needs. It’s not perfect and it’s a bit messy, but if anything was easy is it worth having? I love how the story plays out in Lead and Jimmy and Lena relationship still is one of those relationships that I smile and think about today, four years later!

Review: Play by Kylie Scott

Play.jpg
The Cover: I love this cover much! It’s definitely one of my favorite’s and I definitely think it embodies Mal perfectly! My only complaint is that it doesn’t show any of his luscious, viking like locks.

Basics: Play was released on March 25th 2014, published by St. Martin’s Griffin, book #2 in the Stage Dive series and is 321 pages long. Genre wise Play belongs to contemporary romance, music romance and new adult.

Description: Mal Ericson, drummer for the world famous rock band Stage Dive, needs to clean up his image fast-at least for a little while. Having a good girl on his arm should do the job just fine. Mal doesn’t plan on this temporary fix becoming permanent, but he didn’t count on finding the one right girl.

Anne Rollins never thought she’d ever meet the rock god who plastered her teenage bedroom walls-especially not under these circumstances. Anne has money problems. Big ones. But being paid to play the pretend girlfriend to a wild life-of-the-party drummer couldn’t end well. No matter how hot he is. Or could it?
Play.jpg
Overall thoughts: Play is my favorite book of the entire Stage Dive series. Now to be fair I am completely biased because my husband is also a drummer, but who are we kidding? Mal Ericson is HOT. Each book of the Stage Dive series (Lick, Play, Lead & Deep) all focus on different band members falling in love and personally I think Play is the best.

Anne is having a bit of a hard time (aren’t we all?!), she’s struggling to pay rent and bills, focus on taking care of her sister and throughout it all keep her sanity in tact. When her horrible roommate skips out on her, she needs a night away from the chaos surrounding her and ends up at the home of David and Evelyn from Lick. She’s a friend of a friend that just happens to be married to one of the biggest rock stars around, no big deal.

However when she gets there, Anne is immediately pounced upon by Malcolm Ericson, drummer and apparent sex on a stick rock star.  He also happens to be Anne’s childhood crush which is adorable. Striking up a very odd conversation, Anne suddenly finds herself stuck with Mal who is willing to help her financially but with a catch.

These two go through a lot together but they are exactly what each other needs. Mal is dealing with something so horrible and tragic whereas Anne is dealing with her own demons and past and is definitely in need of some happy in her life. Mal and Anne balance each other out so well and are perfect for each other. I know I tend to gush about couples in reviews a lot but these two take the cake and then some.

Their need for each other and the love they develop between them is sweet, funny, and toe curling sexy. I really love these two as a couple and their story. Again, Play is my favorite Stage Dive book and I can guarantee you’ll swoon and love Mal as much as I do!

Review: Lick by Kylie Scott

Lick.jpg
The Cover: I really love the cover of Lick because of several reasons. One, the tattoos and the guitar are just SUPER swoon worthy; it is the perfect image of a bad boy rock and roller. Two, I actually really like how only half of the model’s face is shown because your image of what you see in your head could be anything. It’s not a certain cover model so your image of David could be anything you want which I really like because with some covers you get one image and you only think of that image as the character.

Basics: Lick was released on November 11th 2013, published by St. Martin’s Griffin and is 321 pages long. Lick is the first book in the Stage Dive series. Genre wise Lick belongs to contemporary romance, music romance and new adult.

Description: Waking up in Vegas was never meant to be like this.

Evelyn Thomas’s plans for celebrating her twenty-first birthday in Las Vegas were big. Huge. But she sure as hell never meant to wake up on the bathroom floor with a hangover to rival the black plague, a very attractive half-naked tattooed man, and a diamond on her finger large enough to scare King Kong. Now if she could just remember how it all happened. One thing is for certain, being married to rock and roll’s favorite son is sure to be a wild ride.
Lick.jpg

Overall thoughts: I stumbled upon Lick by Kylie Scott on a random Target run in late November 2013. I was just getting into reading romance and I actually never had read any book that dealt with being a rock star band, let alone falling in love with one of the band-mates. But when I started reading Lick I immediately even fell more in love with romance book genre.

Kylie Scott has one of the best sense of humor, ever; and I bet her sense of rumor is even better in person. But when it comes to that sense of humor in her books? Oh my goodness they just make me smile! David is a very complex, brooding, sexy kind of heroine but his persona and overall attitude was very magnetic to me. Of course when you’re reading Lick you get this visual of this attractive, sort of tortured, tattoo’d guitar player in your head which is all sorts of good. However, I fell head over heels for David because of the way Scott wrote his personality. His little quirks, jabs and witty comments just made me smile or blush several times.

Evelyn is literally every millennial struggling right now. Working a summer job, going to college and taking on a major that her family basically decided for her. She feels lost and lord knows when we feel lost we try to escape from our issues which usually leads to an adventure. Adventure that leads her to Vegas where she meets David and marries him. Problem is she doesn’t remember meeting him OR marrying him.

No spoilers but Lick (and the entire series Stage Dive in general) is one of my favorite books of all time. I love David and Evelyn very much and it’s been FIVE year and I still think about how great their love is from time to time. I also really love how their relationship isn’t perfect but that doesn’t make it any less true, it only strengths their love and relationship. Lick is funny, you can’t put down page turning, sexy, witty and is such a great love story to open this series. Another favorite part of Lick is how it introduces the other members of Stage Dive and sets up my favorite book of this series, Play

If you want to read a good commoner falling in love with a rock star style romance kind of book, Lick and the entire series of Stage Dive is definitely for you!

“I married you, Evelyn, because you made sense to me. We make sense. We’re a whole lot better together than apart.” -David

“This is your life now?”
“Guess so.”
“Huh, why don’t you go back to LA?”

“I was going to kill him. Slowly. Strangle him with the overpriced thong. A fitting death for a rock star.” -Evelyn
