Review: Lick by Kylie Scott

Lick.jpg
The Cover: I really love the cover of Lick because of several reasons. One, the tattoos and the guitar are just SUPER swoon worthy; it is the perfect image of a bad boy rock and roller. Two, I actually really like how only half of the model’s face is shown because your image of what you see in your head could be anything. It’s not a certain cover model so your image of David could be anything you want which I really like because with some covers you get one image and you only think of that image as the character.

Basics: Lick was released on November 11th 2013, published by St. Martin’s Griffin and is 321 pages long. Lick is the first book in the Stage Dive series. Genre wise Lick belongs to contemporary romance, music romance and new adult.

Description: Waking up in Vegas was never meant to be like this.

Evelyn Thomas’s plans for celebrating her twenty-first birthday in Las Vegas were big. Huge. But she sure as hell never meant to wake up on the bathroom floor with a hangover to rival the black plague, a very attractive half-naked tattooed man, and a diamond on her finger large enough to scare King Kong. Now if she could just remember how it all happened. One thing is for certain, being married to rock and roll’s favorite son is sure to be a wild ride.

Overall thoughts: I stumbled upon Lick by Kylie Scott on a random Target run in late November 2013. I was just getting into reading romance and I actually never had read any book that dealt with being a rock star band, let alone falling in love with one of the band-mates. But when I started reading Lick I immediately even fell more in love with romance book genre.

Kylie Scott has one of the best sense of humor, ever; and I bet her sense of rumor is even better in person. But when it comes to that sense of humor in her books? Oh my goodness they just make me smile! David is a very complex, brooding, sexy kind of heroine but his persona and overall attitude was very magnetic to me. Of course when you’re reading Lick you get this visual of this attractive, sort of tortured, tattoo’d guitar player in your head which is all sorts of good. However, I fell head over heels for David because of the way Scott wrote his personality. His little quirks, jabs and witty comments just made me smile or blush several times.

Evelyn is literally every millennial struggling right now. Working a summer job, going to college and taking on a major that her family basically decided for her. She feels lost and lord knows when we feel lost we try to escape from our issues which usually leads to an adventure. Adventure that leads her to Vegas where she meets David and marries him. Problem is she doesn’t remember meeting him OR marrying him.

No spoilers but Lick (and the entire series Stage Dive in general) is one of my favorite books of all time. I love David and Evelyn very much and it’s been FIVE year and I still think about how great their love is from time to time. I also really love how their relationship isn’t perfect but that doesn’t make it any less true, it only strengths their love and relationship. Lick is funny, you can’t put down page turning, sexy, witty and is such a great love story to open this series. Another favorite part of Lick is how it introduces the other members of Stage Dive and sets up my favorite book of this series, Play

If you want to read a good commoner falling in love with a rock star style romance kind of book, Lick and the entire series of Stage Dive is definitely for you!

Blurb: Bitsy: I might be only nineteen, but I know what I want. It’s Leka Moore. I don’t care that he took me in when he was barely more than a kid himself. I don’t care that he raised me. I don’t care everyone thinks being with him is wrong. I know we belong together, and the only person I need to convince is him.

Leka: I found her in the corner of a dark alley. If I hadn’t taken her with me, she would’ve died that night—or maybe worse. Before I knew it, she became the light in my dark life, the haven from the madness. I watched her grow up. I tried to teach her right from wrong. Now that she’s an adult, I’m feeling things that no good man should ever feel. But then…I’ve never been a good man. I have a chance at redemption by saving her from the greatest danger of all—me.

Playboy-Amazon
Blurb:
It started as a game.  We flirted. We played. Most importantly—we won.
Then I discovered who he was: Gambler. Famous playboy. Silver-eyed player who never plays to lose. …And my best friend’s soon-to-be brother in law, Cullen Carmichael.
He needed a good luck charm, I needed a distraction.
So we made a gamble and set off for Vegas—but pretty soon—I was in too deep.
My heart, soul, and body weren’t supposed to be part of the deal.
But somewhere between big wins and long nights, my house of cards started to tumble.
What was this devil with those piercing eyes doing to me?
I’d given up on love, but the wicked, all-in Cullen Carmichael was upping the ante and wouldn’t stop until he’d won it all.

Blurb: Returning home for her father’s wedding was never going to be easy for Adele. If being sent away at eighteen hadn’t been bad enough, the mess she left behind when she made a pass at her dad’s business partner sure was.

Fifteen years older than her, Pete had been her crush for as long as she could remember. But she’d misread the situation—confusing friendliness for undying love. Awkward. Add her father to the misunderstanding, and Pete had been left with a broken nose and a business on the edge of ruin. The man had to be just as glad as everyone else when she left town.

Seven years on, things are different. Adele is no longer a kid, but a fully grown adult more than capable of getting through the wedding and being polite. But all it takes is seeing him again to bring back all those old feelings. Sometimes first loves are the truest.

Review: Dirty by Kylie Scott

*Originally posted 10/7/16 on blogger before I moved to wordpress**
I am currently in the path of Hurricane Matthew and since it hasn’t hit yet I thought it would be the perfect time to get some reading done and write up some reviews! The first book I chose to read for Hurricane Matthew was Dirty by Kylie Scott. I am a big, big fan of Kylie Scott, I fell in love with both her Stage Dive series and her Flesh series. So I had big expectations for her new series and first book, Dirty. The great thing about her Dive Bar series is that it’s based in the same world as the Stage Dive series but with different characters and different scenarios. You can read the Dive Bar series as a standalone but I highly recommend reading the Stage Dive series as well. But without further ago, let’s dive in this review!

dirty.jpg
Cover: I really find myself drawn to Scott’s covers because she has a certain theme with them, usually a handsome gentleman with only half of his face showing. I really like this concept for a a book cover because the guy doesn’t have a face, so it’s easier for you as the reader to visualize what the guy on the cover looks like and you can make it your own! Which is especially great because when it comes to reading everyone has different ideas of what certain characters in books look like in their own heads. I also like the fact that a martini glass is also featured because it fits in with the story.  A+ for the cover.

Basics: Dirty was released on April 19th, 2016, is 289 pages long and is published by St. Martin’s Griffin. Genre wise Dirty belongs to contemporary romance.

Description: Love—on the rocks. The last thing Vaughan Hewson expects to find when he returns to his childhood home is a broken hearted bride in his shower, let alone the drama and chaos that come with her.

Lydia Green doesn’t know whether to scream or cry in a corner. Discovering the love of your life is having an affair on your wedding day is bad enough. Finding out it’s with his best man is another thing all together. Just when this runaway bride has nowhere left to turn, a handsome stranger offers her a broad, muscular shoulder to cry on. Vaughan is the exact opposite of the picture perfect, respected businessmen she’s normally drawn to.

This former musician-turned-bartender is rough around the edges and is facing his own crossroads.  But Lydia’s already tried Mr. Right and discovered he’s all wrong–maybe it’s time to give Mr. Right Now a chance. After all, what’s wrong with getting dirty?
Dirty is the first book in the Dive Bar series from bestselling author Kylie Scott.

dirty-teaser-330.jpgOverall thoughts: I really enjoyed this book! Kylie Scott just has this way of drawing you in with her humor and also using certain relatable issues to tug on your heartstrings. In every book I have read of Scott’s, I find myself empathetic to at least one or more of her characters. When you can see yourself going through the same issue a character is going through in a book, you feel yourself fusing to the story and characters so much. There’s nothing better than falling in love with a book, one that you can especially relate to. The connection between Vaughn and Lydia was very refreshing; the way they met was funny and I really enjoyed how both of them were in difficult situations but leaned on each other to get through those difficult situations, The plot was really well done too; I think it’s very hard to keep readers interesting when it comes a nonfiction romance and Scott did a really fantastic job of keeping me intrigued. Everyone comes from somewhere, whether growing up in a small town or big city, there’s that feeling of home and being surrounded by the ones you love. In most cases when people think about going home that means seeing family and old friends, a theme that plays a big party in Dirty. Both good and drama filled, but that’s what makes it interesting right? I think my only complaint of this book would be the length, I loved it so much that I wish it was just a little bit longer! But don’t we all feel that way when we really enjoy a book? I’m looking forward to learning more about the crew of Coeur d’Alene and seeing how each of their stories pans out.  Bring on more of the Dive Bar series!

Favorite Quotes: “I looked down. Yes, something was definitely hardening in the front of his pants. Huh. We hadn’t even used tongue. And they said romance was dead.”

“I can’t say I know exactly what it feels like to be nailed to a door. But the way Vaughn did it made for one hell of an experience.”
“Trust me, never mock a romance book, You have no idea the amount of good they can do for you between the sheets and on the streets. If you love your girl? Buy her books.”
